(Pfffft Fernpaws love of Fishcat XD)

Seedheart sighed in relief when she realized Twilightstar was gonna talk to Wildpaw, she hoped that the leader could straighten out the furball. Wildpaw would make sure good warrior if he could stop with his pranks, though that would mostly be for his clan mates benefit.

Snailkit twitched their tail as they called out their former denmates new names, their ceremony would be in a moon and a half.

Appleshine groomed her fur outside of the warriors den, her mind reeling from the ceremony. She had an apprentice! She had never actually considered having one, or thought she would get one so soon. She felt so pleased and honored by Twilightstar! Had she done something noteworthy? Maybe!

Swipe, swipe, swipe. Her tongue rasped over her speckle dusted pelt, and she stopped to admire the sheen on her glossy fur. She had always been pretty, but for a moment, Appleshine felt absolutely gorgeous. Was that a bit vain of her? Probably, but it was hard to deny something so obvious.

With her momentary vanity moment over, her mind drifted back to her apprentice. She would have to make a schedule to fit in her grooming, and have enough to spend freely to do either patrols or hunt. She wanted to take Echopaw out to see the moorland first, and then she'd show her the best puddles to see her reflection! Just for fun of course. But what next? Hunting or battle? Hunting. Battle training was still a lot for a young apprentice, and hunting practice helped establish the most basic forms for battle training.
Her grooming almost complete, Appleshine's strokes slowed down as she reached her tail, having to take her time to clean the lengthy fur there. Otherwise she'd get horrible furballs later.

Bristle was also contemplating the ceremony, it wasn't often someone as green as Apple got an apprentice. Idle thoughts of having his own one day were enough to cause a slight bit of yearning in his chest. Though it was too much of a hassle at this particular moment, the tom needed to focus on training, there was still much he needed to do in terms of hunting. While combat came as second nature to Bristle, something about the unbearable patience needed to hunt clashed immediately with his somewhat brash nature.

All these thoughts blinded his mind's peripheral to Apple, not noticing the molly cat grooming her fur. Bristle was too deep in thought about how his next training regime would go, maybe he should ask TwilightStar directly for advice? No... Too bold, he would have to consult one of the more experienced warriors.

The last bits of fur fell from her tail just as her eyes fell upon him, Was that...Bristlethorn? Wow, he had grown up nicely. He was younger than her, she remembered, bu three moons. She had been an apprentice when he was a kit. And a warrior when he was an apprentice. But now a fully grown warrior, Appleshine couldn't help but stare at the tan tabby tom with the white stripes.

He seemed distracted, she noted. He was staring off into space, and she quickly got up and bounded over to him, purring, "Well hello there, tall, tan and handsome! Wow, Bristlethorn, if I had known you'd grow up so well, I wouldn't have put all those thorns into your nest when we were kits!" She was teasing of course, mostly. She remembered a few times where he might have deserved it..

BristleThorn was brought back to reality quite suddenly, but before he was even able to process the face of his childhood acquaintance, he felt a hot flush flood his face. Her out of the blue compliment had made a flutter erupt in his chest, robbing the poor male of speech momentarily. His eyes moved again, staring determinedly away. "Appleshine... Haven't talked to you in awhile." His voice was doing its best to stay level and calm, though his embarrassment was practically palpable.

Though, her next sentence brought his eyes back to her with a bit of a glare, though not one particularly filled with malice, more the eyes of someone who'd been mildly inconvenienced. "You have a talent for pressing my buttons you know. Though, I might've deserved one or two of those times." He admitted, staring away from her bright and cheery expression. He'd always honed a fondness for her well kept fur and pretty eyes. Though those feelings were bottled to the bottom of his heart where he did his best to keep all his emotions from getting in the way of his training.

Appleshine chuckled and twitched her tail. She had always sort of..liked the grumpy tom. Even so far as to have had a crush on him when they were apprentices together. But that all stopped after...well. She didn't even want to remember. It had been a tragic day for Appleshine, and she had loathed what felt like moons getting her fur clean again.

Seeing him now, all those fluttery feelings were returning. Her paws tingled, and she could suppress the happy gleam in her icy blue eyes. "It's a talent we both have, it seems," She replied. "Where are you off to? Looking to go do secret battle training so you can beat someone?" Appleshine teased, "Or are you still upset from the last time I whooped your tail?" She narrowed her eyes, though her tone was devious and playful. "I know all your little weakspots, Bristle, don't forget~" The golden-brown she-cat winked and giggled.

The event that had caused a rift between the two was something Bristle, in all his surly nature, had regretted quite deeply. Though they were passed that now, and Apple was in his face, waving her tail and teasing him like they were young again. It was an irritatingly nostalgic feeling, like the world was right back in place once more. Her annoyingly accurate assessment of his feelings caused his jaw to clench slightly. And yet, mingled in the vexing feeling was the heavy beat of his heart. She had glowed up quite spectacularly. Even without her constant ministrations to keep her fur clean, Apple was a particularly beautiful feline with a lithe figure and soft features.

"I- No, I was going to practice hunting... Or maybe ask one of the older warriors to help with it. I don't have the patience for hunting." He admitted, much to his surprise. Though Apple was already well aware of his shortcomings, it felt nice to be honest with what Bristle felt he needed work on. "And you didn't 'whoop' my tail. I was going easy on you." The tom asserted stubbornly, sitting back up and beginning to slowly walk eastward.

Rain seemed to be out to get Fernpaw.

One second, he was sprinting out of the apprentice den, eager to make his way over to the fresh-kill pile, and the next..

He was going too fast. He had forgotten how close the pile was to the den and panicked as he neared his destination, trying to slow down by digging his paws in the mud. The rain had made the ground slippery, too slick to get a good hold on, and his efforts to stop before Disaster struck were in vain.

BOOM!

Fernpaw hit the fresh-kill pile at full speed, sending pieces of prey flying around his dazed form. He collapsed against the ground in a dazed heap, winded and not fully registering what had happened. (Not yet at least.)

Well that was certainly no fun. As he felt the flick in his side from Snakeheart’s tail, Kestrelwing let out the tiniest of growls but decided against saying anything else. Anything in regards to the actual healing process disinterested him, only serving to provide not-so-fond memories of his own time spent in the medicine den. So when Snakeheart started exploding on the young apprentice and the slight stench of blood rose in the air, the gray tabby simply wrinkled his nose with a glance at Batglare. ”He’s your Clanmate,” he pointed out when one of them were asked to watch him.

He would be friendly, but watching an idiotic apprentice who’d gotten himself injured in the first place? He’d leave that to another WindClanner or Snakeheart. Just as he was about to voice this out loud, the sound of thudding paws and an awfully familiar nickname reached his ears.

Oh no. Could it be?

Barely having time to turn before a brown tabby pelt collided against his side, Kestrelwing braced himself in the nick of time from being bowled over - not that it would’ve been a big “knock over” since, just as he’d guessed, it was Fernpaw who had crashed into him. Despite his earlier grumpiness towards Batglare, the tiniest of smirks crept onto his face. ”Furball,” he returned, swatting at his ear in a playful manner. ”How are those swimming lessons going?”

Appleshine wasn't fooled. She could see the tiniest reaction from him, and she knew she had struck a nerve. Now to soothe it. "Pfft, yeah okay, hotshot," The speckled she-cat purred followed after him. "Hunting practice? What part of chasing rabbits requires patience? Have you taken so many hits to the head you can't remember that we don't even need to stalk prey?" Appleshine trotted along beside him, "But if you did want to..you know, catch up on your practice, I can always help you." The molly smiled at him cheerfully, her tail flicking over his flank, "Whattya say? I can help you out now, if you like. I'm taking Echopaw to see the territory tomorrow, so I'm free all afternoon."
