(Sorry it took me so long to write back, I was doing things other than WCO today )
After hearing him speak again, some of Featherstorm’s anger faded away. She felt bad for stepping back, it had obviously hurt him. It seemed her gut feeling had been right all along, he didn’t look dangerous. And the way he talked and held himself didn’t seem dangerous either. She was pretty good at reading others, so she should’ve just gone with her instinct all along. She didn’t let her guard down though, just on the off-chance that she was wrong. You can never be too safe, and no one was right all the time.
She couldn’t help but feel touched when he called her pretty. Featherstorm couldn’t help but start to like him. It still unsettled her a little that he had been watching her, and it seemed he did it often. She took a step forward, and when she spoke she tried to be friendly.“If you’re watching me, you must not have much to. I’m not interesting at all. Wouldn’t you be a little weirded out if a stranger, no matter how sweet they seemed, told you they’d been watching you? And yes, I guess I kind of have a schedule.” As she talked, she looked Obsidian over. She tried to see if she could find out anything more. Then she looked up and tried to meet his gaze. “I’m Featherstorm, by the way. You said your name is Obsidian? What brings you here to Riverclan?” She asked.

The days had begun to blur together as far as Heatherfur was concerned. Paws dragging through the mud, she had decided to escape the confinement of her own den in order to get some new, fresh air in her lungs. It was nothing like the moorland air that the light furred tabby missed so much, but she was beginning to like it. The swampy terrain, the unique noises that sprouted up between the reeds. Her roots would always be planted in WindClan, but perhaps a seed or two had been planted in RiverClan as well. She found it odd to be feeling at home in RiverClan though still so soon after Surgestorm's passing. "I wish I could've been there with him. I could've fought off that fox..." she muttered to herself, kicking a pebble out of her way absentmindedly with one of her forepaws. Behind her, her fluffy tail lashed once and she glanced up, noting her surroundings. I should at least make myself useful while I'm away from camp.. she thought, letting a quiet sigh slip past her lips.
Daydream had been able to teach her more during their training lesson, and now she felt more prepared in case RiverClan was dragged into another war. With her nose in the air and whiskers twitching, Heatherfur maneuvered her way around a rather thick clump of reeds in search for some comfrey root. She was just about to expand her search into the reeds before a weird scent drifted past her nose. Every muscle froze and she let her eyes dart around, keeping her jaws parted to draw in more of the scent. It definitely wasn't RiverClan, nor was it one she was familiar with. Instantly, her hackles began to rise and she slid each paw quietly across the floor, making each more as silent as possible. Thank StarClan I still have my fighting skills, she breathed, knowing that if it was an enemy, they would be in for a nasty surprise.
It was a movement in the shadows that caught her eyes, and Heatherfur almost didn't see it. She turned, head up and eyes alert. The figure was moving quickly, its own expression set and serious. "Stop right there!" she called, not bothering to keep quiet anymore. Despite her medicine cat ways, Heatherfur had no problem defend her Clan with her claws now. And if there was a rogue loose on the territory, she would take care of it, if nothing else to fully prove her loyalty to those who still doubted her in RiverClan. "What's your business being on RiverClan's territory?" she demanded to the shadows, waiting for the figure to reveal itself and step out to where she could see them better. Up ahead, the midday sun beat down upon the forest, little wisps of a breeze floating past every now and then.

(This will certainly be interesting, that's for sure!! )
Mud was an interesting tool for Hannibal, and any other time he was trying to actively avoid being detected, he would fully utilize it. But of course, today he was not trying to stay hidden and ambush. He had a different agenda and this one required acting a part and gaining the favor of a clan cat, any would do. He's done research on the clans before, and while not every clan cat was the same, he found that, most of the time, if a loner seemed genuine and nonthreatening, trespassing would be dismissed, sometimes they would even be invited into the clan. That wasn't what his goal was however, he had no desire to be under some other cats rule again. Not that he actively obeyed the Commander of the Syndicate anyways. Pausing where he stood, he decided to begin dressing to his little part, dabbing mud onto himself in messy patches as if he'd been struggling in the sticky dirt.
Not enough to cover his scent of course, he wanted to be found after all, but enough to make sure to fit the tale he would tell. Hannibal wasn't expecting to find the clan leader, or even the deputy out here in the territory, the thought of one of their healers out here wasn't one that had been actively entertained. He recalled killing one of the healer's apprentices once, who was it, Northpaw? His mind was preoccupied on other things to entertain the idea anyways.
Ears perking up, he could hear someone approaching in the brush so he dawned an expression that could easily be read as exhaustion and frustration, jaws parted as he forced pants out of his mouth, struggling forward in the mud as it sucked at his paws.
At the sound of her voice, the mud-covered tom froze in his tracks with wide eyes, looking towards her, still panting out. " R-Riverclan? I'm sorry, but.. I don't think I understand what.. What you mean by that. Is.. There a river nearby? I see all this mud, but no flowing water. Pardon me but I'm terribly thirsty, I've been looking for something to drink all day." He meowed out in a raspy voice that could have been believed as real. Hannibal glanced down at the ground and at himself, not making direct eye contact with her. His body posture read that of exhaustion and struggle, and his face reflected that, now even dawning a look of nervousness. But his eyes. If she had seen his eyes directly, they were vacant. No emotion, no conviction, just burning pools of fire.

"How dare you! Clan life is liberating! It's community, it's love, it's alliance! It's the best home for any cat! However, that wasn't what she truly thought. That wasn't how she felt. And she had the sense that she shouldn't lie to this cat, whoever he was. His being a loner cast aside, he was perhaps the most intriguing cat she'd ever met, including her Clanmates. She didn't want to lose that, and she had too much integrity to be dishonest to his face. So, she chose her words carefully, but spoke her truth.
"I don't know if I enjoy it," she said simply. "Of course, I like the free meals and shelter, but... I feel--I feel crushed." Ashstorm paused to take a breath. Every logical bone in her body was screaming at her to shut up, but now that she had opened the floodgates, the water was rushing out. "I feel flat. I feel like every ounce of individuality that I have has been beaten out of me since the day I was born. I feel... I feel lonely." She let out a bitter laugh. "I'm surrounded by other cats all the day long, and I feel completely alone. I want to live my life. I want to run through the forest and not care whether or not I'm crossing any Clan borders. I want to be able to catch my own prey and devour it right then and there, not take it back to camp and give it to an elder who hasn't gotten off their rump in moons. I feel alone, and I feel... I do feel restrained, yes." She let her words hang in the air, in shock at the outpouring of emotion that she had just experienced.

His eyes widened a bit as he listened to her, stunned that she had been so open with him. Allister had been on the move so much he never really took the time to stay and get to know another cat. Really the only actual friend he had was Hikari who had been a sort of mentor to him but he was more like family if anything, and not to mention a loner as well. Was this right? He suddenly felt uncomfortable at the uncertain feeling that welled in his chest. Should I really stay? With any other warrior he'd find as many ways to trespass but now that he was here, having a real conversation it just felt off.
Every instinct was telling him to leave and walk right past that border but of course that wouldn't be the polite thing to do. Allister thought for a moment about what she had said. It was truly interesting to him but he was confused. Why doesn't she just leave? He decided that it wouldn't hurt in asking, I mean he had already gotten this far into the conversation. His green gaze focused back on Ashstorm as he rephrased his question, "Then why do you stay?"

Ashstorm sensed the discomfort in the air, and felt her stomach sink, realizing just how cringeworthy her little outburst had been. I should have just kicked him off. Taking a deep breath, she answered, wearing her signature charming grin. “Ah, because it isn’t that easy, darling,” she cooed, shaking her head in an almost patronizing manner. “If I leave, I can never go back. And how could I live without an apprentice bringing me my afternoon snack?” Pausing, she added, “I’ve never been too skilled when it comes to hunting, so I probably couldn’t survive on my own. My area of expertise is with other cats... but I’m sure you noticed that already.” Her voice was dripping flirtatiousness, but it didn’t match her eyes, which were wide, and full of anxiety.

He resisted a cringe at what she had said because somehow it seemed pretentious the way she spoke to him. Am I supposed to believe that being in a clan is better than my life? Allister avoided her gaze now holding an irritated expression on his face. He was the type of feline that if you rubbed the wrong way you could easily annoy him, and right now he felt like her words were fake. What she had said before even if it nearly scared him off was at least real. "Oh well please, don't let me keep you from your life of luxury." He swished his tail in a returning patronizing manner as if to excuse her from his presence, something that only higher ups would have the authority to do. As Allister shot her a sideways glance he realized that something about her own expression seemed off. He had a feeling she didn't truly mean what she had said. Wait... Should I have been so rude? Again, uncertainty gnawed at him. He really had been enjoying their conversation up till now.

Panic flooded the she-cat’s face. *Damn it...* She thought, mentally cursing herself. She felt a strange magnetism toward Allister, one she couldn’t even begin to explain.
“I’m sorry,” she sputtered, desperate to hold onto this unusual but strong connection she felt already. “I... I’m sorry. I’m used to interacting with people of a—let’s say a different wavelength than the one you hold.” She gave a bittersweet smile. “I’m a very, uh... I’m a very frivolous cat. I’m good at shallow conversations; I’ve been having them all my life. And then you come in, and you’re—you’re different and I don’t know what to make of it.” Her honesty startled her, but she didn’t want to stop. She took a deep breath before continuing.
“I’m sorry. That’s not how I feel. I stay here because... because I’m scared, I think? I don’t want to have nobody. I’m good at people; I’m good at words. I’m not good at being alone.”

As he did, Featherstorm too sat dow. She felt partly stupid in ever thinking that this To was dangerous. Honestly, it didn’t even seem like he could inflict damage. Despite these thoughts, she couldn’t help but feel suspicious when he said he knew her name. Whenever she was out here she had never said her name, and no one else had either. How often was this cat watching her? No matter his intentions, she would always feel a little creeped out by that.
When she spoke, she kept her voice friendly, not letting anything of her other feelings come through. “You already knew my name? How? I’ve never said it while out there. No one else has said it out here either. So, uh, how do you know it? And what do you mean that you ‘don’t like to pass up opportunities like this’?” She said. She hoped he wasn’t offended by her friendly interrogation, but if she was going to spend time with him she needed to know these things. She couldn’t believe that she was actually even considering seeing him again. Everything she had ever learned goes against this. She decided to push that thought away. Let’s just see wher this goes, she told herself. And even though she asked why he didn’t want to pass this up, she had asked because she wasn’t sure how to respond. Maybe he was talking about something entirely different.

Obsidian smiled nervously. “Hehe, I don’t wanna answer that.. Oh, and by opportunity I mean you.” He meowed, beginning to daze off, watching the birds and clouds. He knew this wouldn’t work out in the end, but he still had hope.

A bit surprised by the gentle lick she received in a thanking manner Cocoaheart slightly twitched her whiskers. Was that a normal way for him to thank some cat? That didn't really matter, she couldn't keep Gingerthroat waiting outside camp alone. Him being alone was the reason she came up to him in the first place. With a flick of her bushy chocolate brown tail the RiverClan warrior pushed out the entrance to meet up with the black and ginger tom waiting for her just outside. This was it, the start of their little journey to Seastones to explore. Yeah, she was 32 moons old and still hadn't been to Seastones in daylight. Giving a warm smile the chocolate brown hued molly started off into the territory glancing over her shoulder to make sure Gingerthroat was following her. If he was she'd make sure to keep her pace level with his to walk by his side.
Riverpaw's tail twitched nervously, yes the silver tom was just a fellow RiverClan apprentice but she's never talked to him and wasn't sure how to respond. That was normal though, at least for this little feline. To shy for her own good. As he exclaimed that he loves it here to she glanced up at him only to see him holding a colorful rock for her. This made her give a shy smile. "Th-thank you.." She meowed quietly. The silver rabbit's tail still twitched a bit showing how nervous she was to be talking with a new cat but she was settling down. When he suddenly ploped down Riverpaw stepped back a bit surprised by her loud purr. "I- If you'd like..." She answered shyly ducking her head.
|
Gingerthroat followed the chocolate brown molly, his amber eyes twinkling as he caught up to her to pad along beside her. The tom was pretty excited himself, and this little adventure would be a time he would always remember. He glanced over at Cocoaheart, gently brushing her cheek with the tip of his tail. They passed a large, wide rock covered in soft, green moss. The rock rose more than twelve feet above the ground. He smiled at Cocoaheart before bounding over to the rock. He sniffed it a moment to check for any prey hiding underneath. Since there was none, he shrugged and began climbing the boulder, his muscles rippling underneath his glossy, dark fur as he moved, placing each paw carefully. He paused a quarter way up to glance down at Cocoaheart. He waved his tail in a gesture for her to climb and follow him. He then climbed higher until he reached the top, disappearing from sight.
((Thanks.))
