"I didn't mistake it for a snake!" Flutterkit protested hotly. "You were waving it out in plain view! What was I supposed to do, except pounce on it?" No apprentice would tell her what to do!

Now Flutterkit was really ticked. "Kits are just as smart as any apprentice! I did not think it was a snake! For your information, I would pounce on your tail just for it being your tail any day!" This seemed to be the highest insult the kit could think of, and she hesitated, unsure if she'd gone too far. "Well, I'd do it again, at least," she conceded. "I was bored!"

Falconpaw paused, eyes widening a bit, “Actually...yes. That was pretty good. The more you practice, the stronger you become. When you jump, use your hind legs more than your front legs—that’ll put more power into your jump.” She explained, wrapping her tail around her paws.

Flutterkit ducked low, tucked her head to her chest, and rolled in a lopsided oval, but much improved from her first two tries. She untangled herself and tried to copy Falconpaw's precise pivot, whirling around to face Tawnykit, panting. "That was fun!" she squeaked in excitement.

Flutterkit paused. "Well, I thought it looked a little bit like a snake, but-- I knew it was a tail! I just wanted to pounce on something," she persisted. Some of her irritation was diffused, but she wanted to make sure she left Scarletpaw with a solid understanding of her competence. "Besides," she risked, "I think you would have done the same thing, if you were bored."
