WindClan: Life Before 2023's Fire

Cobwebpaw smiled at the other tom's enthusiasm, taking another bite of the rabbit as the spotted apprentice sat up. He lifted his head as Cowpaw began gesturing. He knitted he brows together as he tried to puzzle out the meaning. Despite rarely speaking, he wasn't great at nonverbal communication, something he was actively working on. Usually he just kinda... sat there. Other cats rarely prompted a conversation with him, though Cowpaw seemed to genuinely want to communicate with him, a welcome change from the usual being ignored by other cats his age. He lowered his head apologetically, feeling slightly guilty he didn't quite understand. Perhaps he would attempt to hang out with this apprentice more often, get to comprehending him a little more.

The tabby's face grew hot with embarrassment as he realized the other tom had seen his quick glance. To be fair, the wounds were quite evident, not that he'd ever say that aloud. He watched as Cowpaw slowly chewed, anxious thoughts flooding his mind. That was so rude, I shouldn't have even looked. And he was being so nice too! Starclan, I'm awful at this. Cobwebpaw dipped his head once more, the closest he could get to profusely apologizing without... y'know. Actually verbalizing an apology. His pale yellow eyes narrowed slightly as Cowpaw made another gesture, an odd swiping over his nose. Hmm. The slender tom had to think for a moment, before it clicked. Oh! A fox! He nodded in understanding. He tipped his head as the other tom continued gesturing.

This one was easier to figure out. He smiled, tapping his paw on the ground.Good! He didn't really have any defined gestures, as Cowpaw seemed to have, but this one was easy to answer. Usually if he just made a facial expression most cats got the gist of it. He copied the gesture Cowpaw had done to the best of his ability, though it likely wasn't perfect. How are you? The dark tabby figured the black-and-white tom would have a bit more to say about how he was, considering the injuries, but perhaps he would prefer to keep those details to himself. Cobwebpaw could see how the other apprentice might be more reserved, especially considering the wounds may be a sensitive subject. He could respect that though, he considered himself pretty similar in that aspect.

The molly woke from a nap and rilled onto her side. Her pelt needed groomed, so she began doing so. Her green eyes still looked tired, but as she scented her mate brightened. She looked around for the siamese tom, excited.

Stormeye padded in to greet his mate with a plump thrush. Purring, he padded up to her and dropped the prey for her. "Goodmorning my love." He mewed

The kit took a pawstep back seeing the cat lowered to the ground. What was it trying to do? Soon, the cat was pressing to the ground. Tulipkit gave a curious glance and came forward. It felt weird to Tulipkit, but it also made him feel comfortable somehow. He listened to the cat as it spoke. The kit’s eyes became round and smiled back a little, showing his whole set of teeth and the bigger fangs. He realized what he revealed and closed it shut, only to pierce his lip a little by the outward fangs that are made to be shown outside his mouth.

He raised his chin up, absorbing the compliment into pride of his name. Though he didn’t seem to be showing it, he loved his name; it fitted his personality well. After a heartbeat, he slightly tipped his head over his small shoulder, eyeing at Cowpaw. He heard of ‘paws before, or apprentices from his mother, that are trained by other cats in WindClan. They were once kits, but have grown older. So this black-and-white cat could’ve been his friend in the nursery? Amazing and interesting!

However he didn’t understand one thing from his name. What is a- “Cow?” Tulipkit mewed out loud, mainly to himself rather than the apprentice.

Blackmist padded into Windclan territory, his white paws silent on the ground. He had gone out on a stroll to clear his head and think of his life when he realized that he had gone out too far. The weird thing was that he had found Midnightkit while returning. He had decided to lead her back in case she didn't know the way.

Midnightkit was padding next to this cat, Blackmist he had said was his name, and was following him to camp. She had lost herself because she was looking for a good spot to sleep but now she just wanted to go back home.

After finally escaping she ran for the moors again. Walking into the territory she mewoed "WINDCLAN!" as she made way for the camp.

Twilightstar spotted the loud cat from what felt like tree lengths away. Padding up to her with her a frown, Twilightstar parted her maw and asked. "Snowstorm, where you've been?"

"Sunkit, there you are." Twilightstar's meow rang out as she pushed through some wilting heather and padded over to the kit. "What are you doing outside of camp?"

The she cat would raise her tail in greeting when her leader approached. She smiled and nodded sheepishly. "Unfortunately, yes." She was embarrassed but she wasn't about to show her leader that. "It took me moons to get away from them."

Her heart fluttered and she would gulp. She was suddenly very nervous that she wouldn't be allowed back and that she'd have to go back to the Twolegs or be a rogue, all on her own, and without the clan to support her. She hoped that Twilightstar would be more understanding and her fur prickled along her back at the prospect that she might not be.

Twilightstar sighed after her thoughts were reaffirmed, she had heard from RiverClan that the twolegs were starting to stirr for whatever reason. She wouldn't be shocked if more of her cats had been snatched by them. "You're lucky that you got away, not many clan cats are." She chastised the cat in a severe yet warm tone. "There's a reason I don't like it when apprentices wander outside on their own. You make easy prey to those like twolegs." She could only hope that Kestrelpaw took her words to heart.

"Come on, let's get you bathed and home." She was going to have to find Kestrelpaw some heather or something to roll around in, the clan would complain about the twoleg scent otherwise.

Twilightstar wasn't sure if the cat was mocking her or not. It didn't appear so, but that answer was so... Sighing, gave a twitch of her tail that and flattened an ear. "Let's try this again, why have you been out of the territory? You can serve or be loyal to WindClan if you're not around." There was a small edge in her voice that said she was not in the mood for whatever game the cat thought she was playing.

"Blackmist, you returned and you found my missing kit." Twilightstar appeared not long after spotting the two walking in the direction of the camp. At first, she had assumed it was a pair of loners, until she got close enough to see the pelts and their faces. The leader looked anything but pleased as her green eye rested on her daughter. First Beastkit and now Midnightkit, she had always thought that Leechkit would be the first of her kits to turn her fur gray slipping out of camp. Not those two. "I'm assuming you both have some explaining for this?"

Blackmist cracked a soft smile as he spotted the leader. He dipped his head down a bit before clearing his throat softly. "Well, I tend to wander at times when I feel troubled or need to figure some stuff out. Usually my paws know where to stop and where to go but I must have been too troubled that when I came back into the present, I found myself close to the Twolegplace. I hadn't been that far before and my scent had been blown away by the time I started to come back so it took me a while to find Windclan. On the way back to camp through Windclan territory I spotted Midnightkit." He mewed, glancing at Midnightkit for a brief second at the end before looking at Twilightstar again.

Midnightkit broke into a smile as she spotted her mother but she looked down at the ground when she asked that last part, her smile gone. She listened to what Blackmist was saying before looking at her mother again. "Well, I was looking for a good spot to sleep before I realized that I shouldn't have wandered out. I tried coming back but I forgot which direction camp was. I wouldn't have made it home if Blackmist hadn't found me." She meowed, her amber eyes not as bright as usual.

Lovely, Twilightstar was hoping that she wouldn't have twolegs running around the moor any time soon, she had enough trouble with ShadowClan. "I'll have to stop letting cats go out on their own if I get any more twolegs report." She meowed, more to herself than to Snowstorm. "Let's head back, and make sure you bathe properly."

Wander? Twilightstar slowly digested Blackmist's words trying to follow how he had gotten all the way over to the twoleg's place without even noticing it. What in Starclan's name had he been thinking about so earnestly? Even though Twilightstar was rather curious about it, she left it be, one thing at a time. Midnightkit she wasn't even sure what to do with. It seemed like an honest mistake to her, and having her stay in the nursery for an extra moon seemed like a bit much for a first-time offender.

"Midnightkit, you need to pay more attention to where you're going and stop sleeping in random places outside of the dens. You'll get sick or worst lost." Twilightstar growled gently, but seemed to be more or last pleased to see that she was alright.

"Blackmist, thank you for finding Midnightkit, she was lucky she was found by you and not someone else. Still, you seem as absentminded as some of my kits. It's alright to wander, but not if it's taking you so far out of the territory. Bring another cat with you if you get lost in thought so easily." That was a concern within itself. Twilightstar didn't like losing her warriors or any cat in WindClan. It was worrisome.

"Let's head back, I'm sure the clan will be pleased to see you again."

Sunkit mews "I am sorry Ms.Twilightstar was looking for more flowers to hand out to kats and got lost i am sorry. I didnt even fully realise i was out of camp either." She admitted.
