Ghostpaw
ThunderClan Apprentice ☙ 6 moons ☙ He/Him "I see dead people."
Ghostpaw's eyes widen as the leader spoke. No wonder he hadn't seen her in a while. He took a glace at Spiderthroat. He hoped that the tom would be a great leader just as Bumblebreak was. The apprentice loafed, tucking his paws under himself.

Though forewarned of this occurring due to the discussion last night it was still something mind boggling to witness, sitting in the crowd as Bumblestars last declaration rung out over the crowd. The tripod had exited the medicine cats den with their sister, Violetfreckle draped on their back like a shawl given she wasnt really up to walking yet, still limping and wheezing themselves but looking so much better now.
Sure the new scars were brutal and an ugly shiny pink of most new scars, and sure their new snaggle fang did not make them the most pretty cat, but they were alive and recovering again. And Mudhound viewed survival as something far more important then most anything, so they werent bothered at all.
No they were more focused with gently setting Violetfreckle down, supporting her with their bulk, watching their clanmates and sisters reactions with a keen eye. If someone pitched a fit they might just explode after all, but so far beyond shock everything was calm. Good, they better stay that way Mudhound was recovered enough to throw paws and still kinda emotionally unstable.
The tripod purred as their sister stumbled down to join them, quickly slotting her inbetween themself and Violetfreckle. "Good wording Bumble-sis. Youre doing great, love you." A overlarge tongue flattened an errant bit of fur on the newly hornets head. "Lotsa small meals sound good right? So we should rest before another, naps or flower crowns or something...." Something light and happy and not work Ms Bumblebreak.
[OOC: on mobile and don’t feel like formatting lol.]
Acornfall blinked in surprise as Bumblestar climbed the Stormcrest - well. Blinked his one remaining eye anyway. He was even more surprised by Bumblesta- …Bumblebreak’s…announcement. That was…certainly going to take getting used to. But…he couldn’t help it. He lifted his chin, puffed his chest, and chanted. “Bumblebreak! Bumblebreak! Bumblebreak!” He wasn’t sure if this was the custom or not, but he wanted Bumble to know that her clan honored and respected her and her decision. And he hoped this gesture would show her that.
Sunrisepaw sat with an expression of horror in the shadows of the apprentice’s den. Bumblestar…was Bumblebreak now?! Bumblestar had always been her hero…what was going to happen to the clan now? She heard a voice chanting Bumblebreak’s name like this was normal, and bit back her hiss. Feeling distressed and overwhelmed, ‘Rise stayed in the shadows of the apprentice’s den. Tail wrapped tightly around her paws.
Spiderpaw wasn’t too far from Sunrisepaw. Equally surprised, but Acornfall’s chanting brought out chanting of her own. “Bumblebreak! Bumblebreak! Bumblebreak!” Her leader…no…Bumblebreak looked tired. But she did soooo much for the clan. She didn’t want Bumblebreak to just…slink off into nothingness. And she knew, she’d chant and support Spiderthroat too. But right now…she just felt like she wanted Bumblebreak to know how important and respected she was.
Honeykit blinked blearily from the nursery. Looking up at her momma with a confused expression before yawning and tucking herself into a ball at Milkbee’s paws. This was too noisy for the young kit, and she didn’t understand it all.
Burnedbark wasn’t surprised by the clan’s response. He lifted his head and nodded in agreement with the show of honor and respected to Bumblebreak’s decision. But his gaze shifted to Spiderthroat now too. Their next leader…it felt like the end of an age.

Scorpionkit watched Bumblestar climb the Stormcrest, gazing on with narrowed eyes. Why was she wobbling? This was dumb- He had a bad leg and hardly ever wobbled. (Scorp you liar-) When Bumblestar stepped down from leadership, however, he was very surprised.

The day with the otter feast had been interesting for sure. Flintclaw had wanted to follow Treetiger back into the den after banishing that strange thing in the clearing... but he had decided against it. In all reality, Treetiger was a strange cat that he knew little about. The more he learned, the more his pelt itched with discomfort. Perhaps it was the bitter taste of more medicine cat shenanigans. Perhaps he just didn't know her that well. He was not too keen on getting to know her, though. He had half a mind to tear down the entire idea of medicine cats as a whole.
His ear twitched when he heard a call. Not the one that was actually there. No, the phantom ear twitched with a sensation like bramble wrapped around it. It was an irritation that he was growing accustomed to. His eyes snapped open and he heaved himself up, stalking out into the clearing to sit and listen to Bumblestar's first announcement since her coma. There hadn't been much for her to miss, outside of the things that circled around the otters. He couldn't imagine that she was very far out of the loop anymore, though.
He looked up at the leader, not sure what he was expecting. Perhaps some kind of speech about the otters. Doubtful. Whatever he had expected, it wasn't what came out of the tired leader's maw. In the midst of all of the chaos. With them already suddenly changing medicine cats. Flintclaw's jaw clenched as Bumblestar announced she was stepping down. Not retiring. Just... joining the hornets.
A slow blink. What kind of insanity was this? He had no doubt that Spiderthroat could lead the clan. He had proven more than capable, but this seemed ill timed. Was there a good time for a leader to step down? Who did she think was sitting idly by and waiting for her? Was that not the duty of a deputy, to step in while she recovered? And the head hornet to support where needed in the event the deputy was indisposed? It felt like an easy out. She never wanted to be leader... She had brought the clan back from a place of disrepair, and decided to leave her position as it was mending itself after an immense hit like Fadingpaw's demotion?
Just like that, Bumblebreak stepped down from the stormcrest and Flintclaw's eyes sought out Spiderthroat. There was no doubt that he trusted the calico to lead. He even had the occasional doubts about Bumblebreak towards the end... but this only proved to him just how right his slowly growing suspicions had become. It was strange as his mind mixed with the reasoning behind her words and his own flash of anger at her abandoning the position. He couldn't tell if it was for the better or the worse.
What even was the right answer for the clan? He didn't know. It couldn't be tearing the entire leadership apart all at once. What would Spiderthroat have to deal with? Not as injured as Bumblebreak, even powerful enough to go after the otters a second time. The dark tabby's tail flicked behind him as he tried to keep his face mostly stoic. He was quickly reminded of his own previous promises. Keep his frustration to himself. Show confidence for the clan's leadership. Keep the peace until it was stable again.
He wondered if Spiderthroat would act as quickly with assigning a new deputy as he was with assigning a new medicine cat to continue supervising Hollowpaw.

"Just believe in myself won't rely on others."
- - -
The russet tom padded out to the clearing, ears high as he took a spot near the shade of a tree. The air was thick with anticipation as Bumblestar climbed the Stormcrest.
Worn, disheveled, the sheen in her pelt lost to a tiring blood rusted grain. Reddove merely squared his jaw, awaiting what news would meet his ears, if there was anything he should keep track of for the future. What came to him was surprising though. It made his natural frown grow taught before it softened, blue eyes widened as if Bumblestar had just declared that she was converting to veganism, or something drastic like that.
The tabby licked his muzzle, ear flicking in acknowledgement. She might've not looked like a leader as she climbed down those stones, but she went with the mentality of one. That was honor within itself, something he'd have to respect for anycat. The medicine cat(s) on the other paw didn't have a single noteworthy bone in their body. He saw how Wolfpaw bowed his head low upon confrontation. Maybe they weren't asking for pity, but they sure looked pitiful.
Spiderthroat however, Reddove knew the tom would do well. He was his former mentor after all and had shown his dedication. Reddove saw the logic behind everything here, even if he was peeved that ranks were slipping through his claws like water. That's why he couldn't trust anycat but himself, not completely anyways.
But somecats... They must be seeing the world through their rear end.
His gaze flicked over to Flintclaw, watching keenly as his posture huffed akin to a toddler and their expression sharpened with the intent on violence. A very normal look to see within Thunderclan, but Reddove was not having it on this occasion.
The russet tom padded over, frowning all the same as he looked to the injured warrior. He narrowed his gaze as he sat next to Flintclaw, completely aware of the dispute he would cause. Maybe if he wasn't so socially stunted he wouldn't be starting things everywhere he went. But Reddove had a reason to argue, he was often right. An he was especially right today.
"You aren't... Upset about this, are you?" Reddove tested, the corners of his mouth twitching. "I know you've been in limbo, but I really need you to use your brain. Unless you lost that." He was gonna start rambling, he could feel the onslaught of reasons in his chest.
Boulderspots shook his head in disbelief! Bublestar is stepping down!?! He sat, dumbfounded. Not a single word passed his lips.

"And I can go anywhere I want, anywhere I want, just not home."
─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
Pineblossom turned her head towards Flintclaw, wondering his own reaction. The tom was definitely in his head, understandably so. Bumblestar had been the leader his entire life in the clan. The queen slowly stood and walked over to the tom, as well as Reddove who had arrived as well.
"I agree with you Reddove, but this is definitely a switch for us all," she mewed, nodding her head curtly to the two toms. Pineblossom sat on the opposite side of Flintclaw. "Luckily, Spiderthroat is more than capable of leading us," she mewed. The queen's shoulder was a dull thud now, an irritating reminder of the creature that had hurt her. She twisted her nose in memory.
Hearing of the bounty of otter, Lightningpaw nudged Fleapaw to come over and share some with her. It was definitely a weird things to do, eat a predator and its was soooooooooooo not her cup of tea. The meat was far too tough for her and she soon withdrew from the feast. It felt strange for her to have any of this anyways. It had been long since she felt useful to the clan but at least the young pest thought she was cool.
Fleapaw gabbed about nonsense to Lightningpaw while he did so he wondered when his friend would finally be able to make it to warriorhood. She had done everything but the otter attack unfortunately interrupted it. Oh yeah and the otter tasted fine. He knew he should probably savor it and think its a godsend to catkind but it was just fine. Others seemed to be enjoying themselves so much more. Well he would let them enjoy more of it.
~~
Then there was a bunch of shouting and Fleapaw turned his head to look to Bumblestar with a bewildered and scared look in his eyes. He would have defended his friend but well... Fleapaw heard everything that became of Wolf and held back. Instead he looked to the ground away from everyone and just waited for everything to be done with.
xx Meeting Time xx
A stone fell into Lightningpaw's gut when she heard the Bumblestar was stepping down and took all of her energy to not look over at Spiderthroat. Would she still get to be a warrior? Or was Spiderthroat not going to have a shred of decency and not let things go? Hopefully he would just forget...
Fleapaw looked to his father with a shining light in his eyes and forgot every shred of social code. A massive smile came across his face before he shouted. "YAY MY DAD'S DADSTAR, GO DADDYSTAR HEHE!!" Fleapaw screamed loudly, but thankfully a bit quieter than usual learning the thresholds his throat could handle.

It was jarring to be pulled from his thoughts so suddenly, and by the worst pair possible, no less. Flintclaw's lip curled in distaste as Reddove tried to insult him. Then Pineblossom decided to pitch in as well. Was Pineblossom really trying to start a conversation with Reddove through him!? Because the sudden, extreme announcement hadn't been enough to sour his mood. Of course.
He didn't look at either of them. His chest began to hurt from the tension rising in his muscles. How painful, yet easy it would be to sink his claws into Reddove. Was he really so dense? He just really didn't want to hear the ex-outsider go rambling on again. Rambling about the wrong things. Rambling about some crap he assumed was correct, but Flintclaw doubted he had a proper understanding of.
There was cheering. Bumblebreak's name being called by a pair somewhere in the crowd. He didn't care to note who they were. It was respectful, though he saw no reason for celebration about her stepping down. He'd rather cheer Spiderstar in the future. A new, unknown era to him. Only knowing Bumblestar as his leader before... It almost burned him to see her step down like this. It felt volatile. Wrong.
He didn't doubt Spiderthroat's leadership ability. He had a very weak hope that Pineblossom was not assuming as much with her own comment. He clenched his teeth tighter and decided to ignore them both. An outsider voicing opinions to him held no meaning. A fool who tried to blame him for family he didn't know didn't deserve his attention. He just needed to make it through this meeting, then he could walk away. He hoped Spiderthroat was quick about it.

What was that outside? A meeting? Right now? That must mean the wounded cats were getting better. Bumblystar was getting better, so surely the others were as well. That means Muddy was probably better; of course, she shouldn't have had anything to worry about. Muddy never dies! Bumbly just looked like skin and bones, that's all. But Muddy right now was very safe; in fact, she can see them right there, carrying outside the cat who taught Quacky hunting a few moons ago. Everything was coming back to normal now, wasn't it? She still had an odd feeling beneath the surface. But right now. There was nothing much to think about.
Or...maybe there was. Bumblebreak? Bumblestar was all she'd ever known in her life; never has she heard Bumblebreak. She didn't know what's gonna change, if there's gonna be any. So now, Spiderthroat's gonna become Spiderstar? Considering recent events, a change in leadership isn't actually the worst that could happen. Far from the worst. But what's Quackpaw supposed to do now? She was just kind sitting there; she was supposed to go find some victims to annoy and bother. She should go do that. But instead she's sitting here like a duck glued to the ground
