Nora gave a sigh of relief when the girl didn't notice her and her blushing face. She listened to the lesson. Boring, boring, boring... Oh, ok.

Transfiguration on an egg? Sounds easy enough. Partner up with the person next to you? She looked right. No one was there. She looked left. That girl. And that girl asked if she could get a different partner. Nora's heart broke. Was she really that bad? She heard snickering from other students and pulled the hood of her sweatshirt over her head, and started burning her sweatshirt, so she had to put down the hood. "I can switch with someone else, it's ok..." She flinched at the slap. She was soon out the door.

Theo caught up with Nora for a second, and told her to meet her at the cafe just outside of school. She had her headphones on, this time listening to a song with a 2000s pop vibe, but the lyrics were... depressing, to say the least.

"I’m not really feeling like myself today
Hated every job I've ever had, what's wrong with me?
Every day's the same
Painfully mundane

And my fear of sudden change

Theo entered the cafe, bought a coffee (extra sugar, of course) and sat down at a round table with two seats. She pulled the egg out of her pocket, setting it down on the table. She began flipping through a spell book, waiting for Nora as she read.

She watched Nora come in, and moved to her table. "Hi." She sat the book down on the table, and flipped to a page near the end. "I was thinking we could do an ogrefication spell." Sure it was one of the hardest spells in the book, but she had to prove that she was powerful.

"All I'm good for is burning stuff. Fire can't do... whatever you just said. But do what you want to do."

Theo was glad that Nora didn't argue. She set the egg in the middle of the table, and spoke the incantation. There was a pause, and then... a tiny green puff of smoke came out of her hand. That was it.

Nothing happened to the egg.

Theo tried three more times, but each was unsuccessful. She threw her hands up in exasperation, and slammed the book shut.

"I can't believe this! MAGIC IS SO STUPID!!"

As Theo started flipping through the pages again, she came across a spell to change the egg's color. I guess this will have to do, she thought grimly.

With a wave of her hand, the egg turned rainbow. "It worked!" Theo laughed, picking up the egg. A boy crept up behind her, looking at the egg. "Wow, you have got to tell me how you did that," he said sarcastically. Theo, not hearing his tone, said, "Oh, well, I could give you a play-by-play-"

"All I could manage was this," said the boy, smiling, holding his own egg up. It had four eyes and three wings, and was sparkling. It began to fly around Theo's head in a circle, then dove down, knocking her own egg to the floor.

She gasped, stepping away from the splatter of yolk and egg-whites. She felt something rising up in her throat. Anger? No, it wasn't that, it was-

"Hah, you gonna barf?" The boy asked, laughing at her as she sprinted to the bathroom.

*She growled at the boy to be quiet, her hands burning and even slightly on fire and she tried to touch the boy to burn him*
