Slatefrost assessed both apprentices' stances, smiling when he noted that Cobwebpaw's stance was pretty close to perfect. Streampaw, however...while she was good as well, her weight was a bit off balance.

"Here, Streampaw, try to perhaps place her paws a bit farther ramparts from each other?" He suggested, unsure if his suggestion would actually work.

Well, if they didn't get the perfect stance right now, they would soon. Slatefrost remembered when he was an apprentice, and after several failed hunting attempts, he had finally managed to perfect his stance.

*Streampaw*

"Like this?" She spread her front paws just a few kitsteps apart from each other.

Her father seemed more excited to see Cobwebpaw train more than her! How could he? Whatever, what mattered more now was perfecting her stance.

Slatefrost nodded. "Yes," he meowed, "exactly like that." Slatefrost got up from his crouch, to carefully place two stones a good distance from both Streampaw and Cobwebpaw. He then resumed his post between the two.

"Now, let's try crawling forwards. But first, before we do that, are we in the proper position? Is the wind blowing towards us or away from us?" Slatefrost questioned.

Slatefrost raised his head, stretching in his nest. The black and white tom slowly got out, shaking his legs a bit to get rid of a stubborn piece of moss that was stuck there. "Good morning." He said to Ravenwhisker.

Slatefrost yawned, taking a peek out to see what the weather was like today. So far, it looked nice. At least, as far as he could see. "It looks to be a nice day." Slatefrost said.

She sat in her nest, with her eyes closed. She purred as she remembered old friends and ancient battles. She was obviously very distracted.

The elder's den was warm, but Slatefrost could still feel the remains of cold clinging to his fur. He shivered. But the elders, queens, and kits always came first. Always.

"Excuse me." Slatefrost whispered, not wanting to bother the cat too much. "Do you need anything? Food? New moss?"

The old molly turned her head and focused her eyes on Slatefrost. It took her a second to interpret what he had said. What a sweet warrior! Very polite. She thought happy that some cat had come in to check on her. She sat up slowly.

“Some food would be wonderful, if it isn’t too much trouble, dearie” She purred.

Slatefrost nodded briskly. There was still some prey left on the fresh-kill pile, he could gather some for Lavendersnap, although there was just one tiny problem. He didn’t know what she preferred. Rabbit? Field mice?

“What would you like?” Slatefrost meowed earnestly.

What did she want? She paused for a moment. What do we have? She couldn’t remember. Oh well!

“What ever the smallest piece in the pile is.” She didn’t need a big meal. Better save that for the working cats.

Midnightpaw looked at her mother as she neared her. She seemed and sounded angry but this did not worry Midnightpaw. You could say that she wasn't the least bit worried about the worry her disappearance had caused. "Hello. I'm so glad that your happy to see me and not mad." She threw a bit of caution to the wind but she didn't care. "To where I've been, well, as you know, I've never been in this much chaos before so I thought I should go clear my head and think about how my life was going. You see, I know you're a leader and all but while I was thinking, I realized that you could have done so much better to spend time with us. All we have, me, Leechpaw, Lionpaw, and Beastpaw, is Ashfeather. If you would have spent time with us, maybe Beastpaw wouldn't have gone missing and I wouldn't have gone missing two times." She decided to tell it how it was, not tell it to lessen the pain. "Anyway, to why I was gone for so long. I started having mild rage at this and that caused me to feel like camp was too small, too confined. So, I went out by myself to the territory only to be battered and hurled by the wind. I ended up outside Windclan territory, outside the wind. I explored for a bit but realized that the outsider life is not for me. I waited for the wind to die down before coming home." She explained calmly.

Slatefrost nodded dutifully. He walked out of the Elder's Den at a speed that wasn't hurrying, but wasn't leisurely either. A few moments later, and he returned, carrying a small field mouse in his maw.

Slatefrost carefully set the mouse down at Lavendersnap's paws, and backed a good distance away where he could let her eat in peace.
