(Welp, I was going to make a joke about carrot juice just now, but I don’t know what you alien carrots do.)
The creature continued it’s state, seemingly ignoring Zen. As it’s sadness grew, the fogginess and headache grew to stop it, causing the creature to grit it’s teeth and throw it’s head to the side defensively. It didn’t stop though. It couldn’t stop.

Zen threw up her hands in frustration. Maybe she should go find Peya and just forget about the creature. But. No, her heart told her. This was important. So she jogged up the hill in an attempt to catch up, reassuring Orion with a quick but meaningful nod.

Even without a telepathic connection, she could feel its pain, confusion, and sorrow. Again, she wondered what she possibly could have done to trigger it. "Hey," she said aloud, catching up, "please, wait. Was it something I did? Are you OK?"

Peya looked at her with a sudden surge of affection. "Ok. Yeah, I get it." He placed a tentative hand on her shoulder. "I don't know if I could show you. But if you want, I can--" Suddenly he shivered, seeming to spasm. His pupils slit and he hissed jerking away from Sage. "I'm sorry," he managed, and then, as if attracted by a magnet, slipped away in the other direction.

The creature didn’t react to Zen’s approach. It’s clouded mind was blocking everything in an attempt to freeze up. It couldn’t stop, it didn’t know why, but it couldn’t stop. It’s mind was unconsciously grasping at a faint memory.
