"water is a good child, and you'd be a gooder child if you loved water! gooder! yes i said gooder! what's it to you?" applebloom smiled, though, nuzzling her son in a patient gesture. "one day you'll learn that water is your best companion." applebloom looked lovingly at the river, then at her son with the same expression. "so, what'cha doin out here?"

"Lies!" Kestrel cried with a frown. Water wasn't good in any way, and he wouldn't change his opinion about it. "People drown in water." He told with wide eyes. He flicked his tail, "I was just exploring." he grinned.

applebloom shook her head. "people die from everything. starvation, dehydration, suffocation, age, poison, murder.. you can't expect everything to be perfect. water is the finest thing in the entirety of nature," she responded. "coolio!" applebloom commented. "found anywhere nice?" she inquired, sniffing around the dampened area beside the river. her son was hydrophobic, but he was still a good child- when he wanted to be. at other times, he was a completely annoying furball, but when he wanted to be a good boy, he was one. still, he needed to be disciplined about water being GOOD.

Kestrelpaw shook his head, sitting down a few catlengths away. "Still water is bad!" He protested stubbornly with a pout. "It could flood the whole clan if it wanted to." he meowed with wide eyes, nodding to himself.

"a fire could burn a whole clan if it wanted to," applebloom responded, "but you don't seem to have a phobia of that. the difference is, you can't swim in fire and use it to your advantage." she tilted her head, trying to prove a point to her young'un. it was so hard to educate apprentices these days about ways to use things to their advantage, and what to avoid. applebloom sighed but kept a smile on her face.

"A fire will only start by twolegs or lightning." Kestrelpaw said, raising a brow. "Water on the other hand.." He trailed off, the brow toms gaze falling on the river. He shuddered, flicking his tail as he shuffled to the side.

"Water, on the other hand, is reliable," applebloom finished for him, grinning to herself at her small half victory. using his own sentences against him... ah, what a terrible mother she was. "so, anyways, how has it been these past few days as an apprentice? back in my day.." she trailed off, realizing she was about to go down memory lane and not wanting to bore kestrelpaw even more than she had already.

"if you want, I can be there for moral support, even though I love water and will probably be on the mentor's side, no offence, darling," she said, looking at her son worriedly and wrapping her tail around him in a motherly fashion, although not in an overly clingy modus operandi. she smiled at him, but looked at the water. would he ever give in to his bloodline's love of h2o? whether he would like rivers and ponds or not was one of applebloom's most wondered-about thoughts in the world.

"you're a lucky child, you. if you dont want to go in the water, you wont go in the water. nocat can force you, unless they push you in on purpose," applebloom replied, nuzzling kestrelpaw. "what's not fair?" she enquired, tilting her head questioningly at the apprentice. she knew that life was unfair, but she didn't know if her hydrophobic son was talking about that, or something else.
