It looked like Stempaw was ready, and he was definitely ready. She wasn't making the first move, so it was up to him. Her stance gave a few obvious locations to target, and while he imagined she would have some defenses against them it was worth a try. Scooting forward slightly and lashing out with a front paw, Shrewstep tried to knock her front leg out from under her. He aimed for the knee joint, although he thought just about anywhere would unbalance her somewhat if he hit it. @Zesty Mango

Stempaw saw him coming for her front leg, so she hoped back and to the side to avoid the blow, which she barely missed before she reared onto her back leg trying to come down on Shrewstep’s back with her one paw aimed towards the back and the smaller stump of her other arm aiming to thunk his head with the stump some.

He was close, she had to hop back smartly, but he hadn't quite gotten her. As Stempaw reared upwards Shrewstep leapt forward, hoping to power through her hind legs and land her on her back. As he rushed forward her front paw struck his rump, slowing him momentarily as matching scratches appeared along his lower spine. It hurt, but not enough to pull up, he wasn't as painscared as he once was. @Zesty Mango

Stempaw growled as he got on her back causing her front leg to come down, she didn’t enjoy going one legged, but it was worth a shot to try to rear that way, so she attempted to kick up her back legs up and hope she didn’t fall down balancing on her one front leg, hoping to flip him onto the ground.

Tigerlily stood, awaiting to address his apprentice. Cliff training was in order. Maybe not as common but no less versital. Having a spring in your step was very useful in battle. And training on the cliffs was one way to get it, the other wasn't so sweet.

Ashenpaw

Crickets chirped as the sun began to set, the sky darkening into a marbled mix of oranges, pinks, and yellows. It wasnt quite night yet, Ashenpaw noted, but instead evening, almost dusk. Half-lidded green eyes gazed lazily up at the sky, silently watching the colors writhe and twist. Wispy clouds dotted the sky, looking almost like light tufts of white fur floating through the air.

The apprentice was fully awake; it always seemed he was most alert at dusk. He followed silently after his mentor, padding to the cliffs without saying a word. As they arrived, he subconsciously shifted his weight onto his left side, his tail tip flicking as he waited for instruction.

Tigerlily turned as they reached the base of a smaller cliff. "Climb." he growled. He needed his apprentice to climb. Ashenpaw needed to build up some muscle. It was better than Blackhaze's idea of tearing trees apart.

Digging his claws into Stempaw's back a bit more viciously than might have been strictly necessary, Shrewstep leaned back as she began to kick up her hind legs. His hope was that he wouldn't be sent flying, but he was nonetheless. Being small really, really stunk sometimes. Especially when your opponent was even slightly above average in size. Wheeling quickly to face Stempaw again, Shrewstep swung again for her front leg. He couldn't help himself, it just seemed the most logical way to get at her!

Stempaw thankfully had managed to rear up safely and while the clawing hurt a bit, it didn’t stop her, but before she knew it Shrewstep had sweeped her leg out from under her and she went down, she quickly attempted to roll under Shrewstep then hop up in hopes to knock him down from under him.

To be totally honest, he didn't really know what he was doing here. His mentor (both of them, really) was never around, he didn't ask any of the other apprentices to spar, and he couldn't really learn much by watching. He'd come to realize that he learned better by doing, something that couldn't happen if he never had someone to tell him what to do.

He nearly jumped out of his skin as a voice sounded behind him and he whipped around to stare (thinking maybe, even for a second, even if it was silly, that Foxbite was back to finish the job) before he visibly relaxed. It was just a warrior. It was fine! All fine

"Uh, it's..." He hesitated, scrunched up his nose. "I don't remember. Whoever it was, was never around to take me anywhere."

He quirked up a black kitty brow. Halfblood would never admit it but he had the softest spot for young felines. Espically kittens! Their dumpy little bodies and squishy paws-- urh... Anyway.

He stepped forwards, slinking into better view as he shifted to the edge of the cliff and peered off. His amber-blue gaze snapped back to Whisper; hard pools showing a small flicker of cursoity but it lasted only a few seconds before they were emotionless again.

"Spar with me, boy. Or don't, hardly going to rest on my mind if your lack of training gets your throat slit in battle..."
