Ravenpaw stretched and walked out of the apprentice den.

Fognight drew a paw over her ear, drowsy. She’d been slacking off all day, for once, and truthfully she was okay with it. So long as no cat bothered her, a day off was needed. Guilt clawed at her heart even still. I’ll make up for it tomorrow! Fognight dismissed the thought.

Slypaw stepped out of the apprentices den and looked around for Sunflowerpaw, who he'd followed out of the den after the bickering with Wolfpaw. He'd finally processed that she'd touched her nose to his shoulder and is begining to think he might actually have a chance with her once they're both warriors.

Slypaw looked around. He had nothing to do at the moment and not many friends to hang out with. His tail flicked and he yawned. Maybe I could use this time to make a new friend he thought. He spotted a lone cat and stood up. He took a deep breath and put on a smile. He'd heard comments before about his smile being creepy but he tried his best to look friendly. He padded over to the cat. "Heya, I'm Slypaw" he said, the words were meant to sound cheerful and friendly but they came out in a menacing tone.

At first, Duckfrond thought she was going to apologize for staying away beyond what she needed to heal. Apologize for not even bothering to come see him when she returned. But instead she apologized for returning "looking like this"...? Duckfrond didn't give a rat's ass what she looked like! He cared that she was alive! He opened his mouth to tell her this, but she cut him off and continued, her slow words digging into his pelt with each syllable. The nickname earned a genuine flinch from the tom, his ears pinning back. It had been so long since anyone had called him Ducky. He abhorred how weak it made him feel, how his anger fizzled and popped like wet coals.

Her weak explanation only served to make him more incredulous. "You're telling me you survived an owl attack and thought it was a sign you didn't deserve to come back??" He snapped, cutting her off. "What kind of fox dung reasoning is that??" Frustration burned hot in his throat, and he opened his mouth to argue at her further, but her voice, though quiet, overpowered his bluster.

The rest of her sob story doused what remained of his self-righteous anger, and Duckfrond was forced to sit back on his haunches and stare at the ground with cold eyes. What she confessed to him about the family she had stayed with made his blood boil, but not at her. Anyone treating anyone like that was beyond cruel, and it made Duckfrond want to repay their transgressions against Spring tenfold. Before, Duckfrond would have launched into a long-winded rant about how he was going to hunt down the cats who had hurt her. Now, he just sat in front of her, seething.

There was a long, tense moment of silence between the two as Spring shivered in front of her squirrel and Duckfrond loomed over her. Then she spoke up again, his name once again falling from her lips. Oh, what he would have given moons ago to hear his name in her voice again. Now it just felt hollow. The only indication he was listening was his ears swiveling forward. She was... begging him to look after her kits. The beginning of a snarl twitched on his orange and red maw, but the expression faded almost immediately. "You waltz back into camp..." Duckfrond began after she had finished, his voice low and defeated, "just to drop off your kits. Then you ask me to promise to look after them?" He looked up, and instead of anger in his gaze, there was only sorrow and pain. "The Springlight I knew wouldn't have given up so easily."

She was talking like she had already accepted her death. And from the look of her ragged, thin pelt, she had. Some of his fire returned, and he straightened, his face once again a mask of hot anger. "Nah, nah. You got the audacity to ask me to look after your kits when you won't even take care of yourself so they'll be born alright? That ain't how this is workin' Spring." His expressive ears pinned to the sides again, his eyes flaming, but this time less with anger and more with determination. "You stop punishing yourself and I'll make sure the kits know the cat their mother was when I knew her." Was it fair to use her request against her so she would take care of herself? Maybe not. But Duckfrond had never been a very fair tom, had he.

"I hate seeing you like this. You wanted to spare me and the others pain? Then stop wasting away before my eyes." Duckfrond plopped down into a tense crouch in front of her, blocking her from view of camp. "Eat. I'll turn around if that helps. But I'm not letting you starve. Capiche?"

Splashdawn had not been having a good day. Not even close to one. With a frown and a longing stare at the dirt beneath them, the grey feline trotted along the clearing; lost in thought.

Awoken by nightmares, only to spend the rest of their conscious hours drowning in their own anxiety. Are they really fit to be a warrior? DID THEY TRAIN ENOUGH? Sure, they've been a warrior for a little while now - but they're not all that confident in the role. Not yet, anyway.

Perhaps they're just a cat that doesn't belong. To be forgotten, or discarded as a useless death among every other warrio-

Adderfang had been watching his son, Slypaw. He's trying to make a friend? he thought. He should be doing his duties, useless runt. He suddenly feels a hard push and stumbles to the side. He turns to find the cause of it and sees Splashdawn. "Splashdawn!" he hissed, his fur bristling. "Are you blind, or are you just that oblivious? Watch where you're going!" He sat back down, glaring at the cat.
