He supposed he probably left camp to clear his mind for his later duties, but the nagging thought remained in the back of his mind - was he a bad mentor, or was Spiderpaw just.. awful?
Shaking his head, he attempted to focus on his surroundings. He was by the river now, and there was a cat.. who was she, Nightsky? He hardly knew her-- she didn't go on many patrols, as far as he was aware. Well, they'd need to change that sometime.
Upon closer look, he was pleased to see a predominately black pelt. He liked that-- darker pelts. They complimented his own. "What's a fine lady like yourself doing out here, all alone?" he questioned as he approached, ears twitching. "The water's been a little unpredictable lately, it'd be a shame if you joined them."
|
Nightsky had heard Lionstorm approaching before she'd seen him, raising herself back up as he came into her line of vision. She grinned, giving her tail a short flick - several drops of water landed on the top of her head, glistening there like jewels. "I'm taking advantage of this beautiful day," She mewed, before tilting her head to the side and taking on a more flirtatious tone.
"Besides, I'm not alone anymore, am I? I've got the pleasure of your company now, handsome." Nightsky cast an approving eye over the tom in front of her. Everyone knew who Lionstorm was now, except perhaps for a few of the more reclusive elders and the very young kits. Everyone who mattered, anyways. He was built quite well, muscle and a nice golden coat... she was lucky she was in the prime of her life right now.
"Mm, I like a little unpredictability," Nightsky added after a moment, taking a couple of steps towards the deputy. "It makes life exciting, wouldn't you say?"
***
"Hey, you can't be that bad," Amberpaw protested, wishing she could think of something else to say to make him feel better. He'd be okay, right? She didn't want Fawnpaw to get upset over his imperfect swimming skills. "We could try it together sometime, if you want," She offered, her smile returning as she glanced up at him again. "Once I... actually learn how to swim better. I'm not a model swimmer either," She laughed. The subject of her swimming skills wasn't a sensitive one - it took everyone time to learn how to swim, and even the best swimmers in RiverClan had to start somewhere. The SkyClan cats were learning too, which Amberpaw thought was nice... that way, if something happened, they wouldn't have to rely on a RiverClanner to help them.
Amberpaw straightened up out of her fighting stance, although the playful twinkle remained in her eyes. "I'm just messing with you. That's what friends do, right?" She asked, giving him another light poke in the chest, her smile softening to a gentler one. "Besides, I haven't had a lot of battle training, either. Not enough to be a good opponent," She added after a minute of silence. She'd learn how to be a better fighter one day, too. It would take time, that was all. Amberpaw didn't mind waiting - and besides, training could be pretty fun. It wasn't all easy, but it would all benefit her in the future.
"Hey, do you ever think about having an apprentice of your own someday? Like, how would you want to train them?" She thought about that occasionally, in quick flashes (usually when she was doing something Splashcloud had asked her to do for the hundredth time), and she'd never landed on a direct answer. It would depend on who she was in the future, and what her apprentice would be like, of course. Besides, there wasn't much use trying to think too hard about it. She had a ways to go before she would be a warrior, anyways. @Dipper

He recognized Honeynose, a fellow former-SkyClan warrior, from patrols and around camp, though he had never actually talked to her. He had never met this RiverClan apprentice, though. He hadn't met a majority of the cats in RiverClan, to be honest. Flicking his tail towards the bird, he suggested, "Why don't you try to catch it, then? It'll be good practice."

"Not so bad of an idea, Glazewing," She praised her clan-mate, giving a half nod of approval towards the apprentice. Honeynose didn't mean to be so harsh. If she had been an apprentice with two total strangers, she would feel awkward as well... but she guessed that was what Grousestar was trying to do with this silly get together. Get Riverclan and Skyclan to feel more comfortable with eachother... yeah, Honeynose would never trust those fish-eaters... but she could at least tolerate them. "I say you go first," Honey looked to the apprentice, "Then we can all look to catch something big and tasty."

Yeah, no. Peachpaw did not want to go first, but his companions were warriors, suggesting it. "Yeah...I can do that.." The tom nodded, amber eyes landing on the bird. It was pecking at the ground , most likely for worms or any other bug it could find. Ew. Padding forward, he looked back at Honeynose and Glazewing but looked back and kept going. Crouching down, he crept forward towards the bird who was turning to peck at more things.
He shouldn't be doing this, they should. They would be way better at land hunting right? Shaking the thought from his head, Peachpaw got close enough to the prey he could jump.
Shifting slightly, he prepared to leap but the bird seemed to sense him first, letting out a loud caw of warning. In a quick panic, he jumped into the bird, crushing it slightly before awkwardly killing it with a bite to it's neck.

Salmonstrike replied gruffly around her nape, so much so that he doubted she would be able to comprehend him.

When Fallenstar spoke, Orchidleaf looked around for a moment but couldn't think of anything, she didn't know what Skyclan cats liked to eat nor could she say that she honestly cared. When the other tom chimed in a nervous, shaky voice, she used this as he moment to swipe her tail against his and let out a small purr of amusement "Hey, don't worry about him there's no reason to be scared, it's not like he's gonna eat you or anything." She moved to walk a bit closer to the tom, curious what his reaction would be. Now, she didn't actually like this tom or most toms tbh but it was just so fun to mess with them. @ Starfall

"If we don't find a bird, what else would your clan prefer?" he asked Yarrowpounce after taking a moment to think.
Fallenstar wasn't really sure how he felt about the Skyclaner, he seemed like a bit of a push over. Surely he wasn't that scary right? He'd gotten to come into the camp and look around. As much as he'd like to think the other clans found him intimidating, he was almost positive they didn't with how they reacted. The leader paused, a paw pressed up against a mossy rock, and he turned his attention towards the Skyclan warrior. Than quirked a brow at Orchidleaf's ... 'reassurance.' "Yes, they're not very tasty to me." he said in a monotone voice, scrunching his face up in a serious expression.
After a few seconds of staring dead into both the warriors eyes, he let out a huff and turned on his heels. "How deep into the territory should we go?"
|
The unexpected feeling of something brushing against him caused Yarrowpounce to jump away, just barely holding in a yelp of fear and surprise, his eyes searching wildly before landing on the she-cat who had brushed her tail against him. Dipping his head in quiet embarrassment, listening to what she had to say. "Oh um, I.. I sure hope not.." Briefly his eyes glanced at the leader and gave a nervous chuckle before quickly being brought back to Orchidleaf, a dry, nervous click in his throat as he noticed her walk closer to him, immediately his feet carrying him slightly away from her, not quite sure how to deal with the situation. If it was a cat he knew, he would be able to handle it better, or at least he liked to think he would, but she was a total stranger.
Thankfully, Fallenstar's question helped to divert his attention from the strange Riverclan warrior. "Oh, mm, well r-rodents like.. Like voles are
p-pretty tasty.. As for um, how deep? I.. Well I imagine pretty deep, w-we're supposed to get a bunch of prey.. R-Right?"

She gently nodded at most of what he said, replying to his last few statements. "I can see that I guess, I don't have many friends left on the ground and old friends aren't something I can so easily come by these days. As for herbs, I don't think I have maybe a more intuitive way of searching is a better way of finding them." She paused for a moment, looking around she almost asked the fellow medicine cat where they were, but judging by how he spoke she figured he wouldn't give good logical information.
"That's fair, but would you still want to know what happens at these meetings?" she asked, hoping the tom would say yes. She almost enjoyed the eccentric and more spiritual view of Shiverpetal, it was a sharp yet refreshing change from the views of most warriors too set in their worlds of logic and reasoning.
|
"Yes, of course," he said, distant and dismissive. "They have taken off for flight and are into the beyond." Or... whatever they'd been talking about, Shiverpetal wasn't so certain anymore since a day and a night could go by in a single blink, yet time had the uncanny ability to also stand still.
The topic of the meetings drew a shrug from him, and a casual, "If there's a way to write a message to the stars and receive it, or something equally untroubling, then sure." His meow lacked conviction, taking a more 'what will be, will be' approach to life and seeing very little practicality in the medicine cats getting together. "Otherwise... that's getting to be a lot of work for you. Wouldn't want you to have to strain yourself with all that traveling."

Orchidleaf chuckled when she saw him jump, it was honestly the best reaction she'd ever gotten out of a tom "Sorry about that, I didn't mean to scare you." She slowly took a step to the side, giving him a bit more space and a smile as she continued to follow her leader "Oh yeah, voles are pretty good, I can't remember the last time I had one though." She sighed but kept her smile and turned to Yarrowpounce "So, how're you liking Riverclan? Also, what's your name? I was probably told earlier but I forgot." She continued forward, still looking at the tom as she waited for an answer but she instantly looked ahead when she felt something sharp prick her side only to see a decent sized patch of brambles right next to her, already tangling in her fur. She let out a growl of annoyance and tried to pry herself away from them which she did after a few seconds of struggling, leaving clumps of fur hanging from the brambles. She growled and glared ahead of her as she muttered: "I hate brambles." @ Starfall

"Sounds like you've been adventuring around a bit. Is this...Jasper looking for you?" he was going to ask about her mother, but he noticed her use of past tense. He assumed the worse.
The leader wiggled his nose and began to pluck the leaves from his fur, spitting them out away from the both of them. Did he and Cedarsprint not just tackle this mess? He couldn't ask the other to help him with it again. With a drawn out sigh he continued to pluck the last bit of leaves and twigs from his, now incredibly tangled, fur. Once that task was finished he brought his attention back to the small kit. "What's your name? You can stay in my clan for the time being until someone comes looking for you. If you want that is. Unless you've got somewhere you're trying to go, than I'll escort you." he stated, however he didn't move. He would let this mystery molly decide what she wanted to do. Of course he wouldn't try not pursuading her into coming with him, stuff like, a warm bed, friends...would the flower thing work? He was sure there were flowers in the territory. He'd have to ask around, Cedarsprint would probably know too.

(This is so late RiP)
Moment by moment Petunia felt a little more at ease that the tom wasn't going to kill her. He seemed nice and asked about her flowers. Even if they did remind her of her deceased family. She still loved the flowers. They were the only thing that was always there. You could find them almost everywhere.
At the blurry tom's question the patchy kit began to nod yet stoped as he mentioned Jasper looking for her. She washed. If he was looking for her that ment he cared and was alive. But he didn't want to look for her when he was alive, he hates her for killing their mother. "No, he... he can't." She explained loosening her grip on the flowers. Her head dropping a bit she was quiet unsure what to do next. This was the first new car she's met, the first cat she's told anything to. Only because he asked. "My mum and my brother Jasper died." She sniffled looking up at the black tom. Her eyes were misty but she held back tears. She wasn't going to cry here.
Swallowing hard she listened to the large tom's statement. Why would he want her to stay with him? He wasn't kin nor did he know her. What was a Clan anyhow. Calming herself with a few breaths Petunia decided it was best to just trust the monster of a cat. "I don't know what a Clan is." She admitted looking at him with her wise amber eyes. She didn't have to explain that no one was looking for her. They were all died. "My name is Petunia." Rubbing her face with a paw she'd tell him.

"I suggest we stay away from the beach today," Eagleflight announced as the three cats left the camp. "Oakbranch, Risingsun and I were attacked by a loose dog there yesterday." He still bore fresh sores from their bout with the dog. Oakbranch had lost half her tail to the creature.
"Might I suggest farther upstream? The fish may be smaller, but it's less likely that they'll have been scared off from that encounter, so there's bound to be more of them." He looked to the patrol for approval, his tail twitching as he walked.
He noticed Riverpaw's apprehension, and wondered briefly what he could do to make the young cat more comfortable. It was easy to read from her expression how nervous she must be feeling. He wondered what had happened to her that had made her feel that way.

"It would seem that we do," Eagleflight gave the apprentice a warm smile, determined to help her feel welcome. He greeted Moonstream with a nod as he began to lead the way out of the camp. "We'll have to stay vigilant as Lionstorm said," he noted. "If no cat has hunted near the seastones in a while, there's bound to be some sort of predator that's decided to snake its way into our territory. And if there is, we'll likely have to chase it out." He didn't like the thought of leading his patrol into danger, but it was an issue that needed to be addressed regardless. He was prepared. He lead the way to the river and followed it along the path to the seastones, listening carefully for any sign of the dog that had attacked his last patrol. Thankfully, the coast seemed clear. Of dogs, at least.
