Dodgepaw lifted his fish and mouse in his jaws, closing his eyes and puffing out his chest. Torrentfeather's eyes widened slightly, and she shifted on her paws, giving the sleek black apprentice a curious look, "How did you manage to catch a fish?" she muttered, "And it's a sizable one too."

"I did good, didn't I!?"

"You did splendid," she touched her tailtip to his ear then nodded approvingly to Pigeonpaw, "C'mon, let's go back. You both did well," she dug up her two fish, "Let's bring these back to camp."

(Yes, that sounds like fun!)

Pigeonpaw didn't tell Torrentfeather the fact that Dodgepaw had jumped into the river to catch the fish. She hoped the apprentice's soaked pelt had dried enough by now; she figured the warrior would have used that as an excuse to criticize him. She picked up her own fish and trotted proudly after the other two cats.

In a mockingly haughty tone, he corrected, "Yeah, no. That's Fawnfur to you." Although he nodded, he was also aware their idea of what made a warrior wasn't exactly relevant when it was their mentors and leadership that'd be deciding when they were ready for that step. "They can't be too terrible with names. You're not..." he squinted, surveying him. "You're not, like, Boulder...rock yet, at least." It'd fit with his stoic nature and gray pelt, but it certainly was a horrible name.

When Graypaw rose to his paws, Fawnpaw was instinctually quick to do the same, eager to distance himself from the ash in the air that irritated his lungs and eyes until they both stung. But he didn't open his mouth to complain--wouldn't dare--not when the Clans on fire were more entitled to gripes. Fawnpaw wasn't convinced by Graypaw's statement about them being alright, skeptically pointing out, "I'm... not sure that's really a logical reason that supports their ability to recover." Just because ShadowClan was potentially worse didn't make anything better.

Trotting to fall alongside Graypaw, he teasingly mumbled under his breath, "Wow, that's pretty gentlemanly of you. I didn't even know you knew that word, much less how to enact it." He quickened his pace to scoot beyond Graypaw, flashing a rather cheeky albeit lopsided smile over his shoulder. It was nice they were entering RiverClan territory once more, easing the tension from every inch of him now that his internal survivalist wasn't screaming to get away from the fire.

The second they were undoubtedly in the clear, Fawnpaw slowed to draw in a deep inhale that puffed his chest and closed his eyes in contentment. It was strange to truly breathe again. When he opened them, he peeked to Graypaw, quizzical. Curious. "So... uh, was that everything you hoped it'd be?"
Graypaw smirked. “Oh yes, pardon me. I’d never disrespect the high and mighty Fawnfur.” He scoffed sarcastically, leaving that smug-like smirk plastered against his muzzle. As Fawnpaw examined him, he couldn't help but tense up a bit. His smirk faded and his ears fell flat. Staring always made him...uncomfortable, especially when it was done by someone he wasn't close with. Although his fur fluffed up embarrassingly, Graypaw let the smaller apprentice judge him, but only because he knew it was in a joking way. “Oh, shut up.” He eventually mumbled, holding back a sheepish smile.

While he did hear Fawnpaw’s argument about the who-has-it-worse situation, he didn't reply. There was no use in discussing it anymore. The apprentice simply nodded and carried on through the territory.

“You don't find me gentlemanly?” Graypaw questioned, raising an eyebrow at Fawnpaw. He found the observation odd, since he always saw himself as the respectful type. “Why do you think tha- hey!” As Fawnpaw dashed ahead of him, Graypaw couldn't help but go darting after like a little kit. The cheeky look Fawnpaw gave him made his stomach flip in a weird way. His muzzle scrunched up like he ate something sour, but it quickly eased into a baffled smile. "You're so weird." He blurted out, amused. At least they could connect a little easier on familiar grounds.

Slowing alongside Fawnpaw, he too dragged in a long, deep breath of fresh air. The soothing sound of the nearby stream was much nicer on the ears compared the crackling sparks of fire. Yes, this was much nicer. When Fawnpaw popped another question, Graypaw blinked. “I don't expect much out of my adventures,” He started, letting his gaze wander the scenery on their stroll. “They sort of just happen. I got news about the fire and immediately went out to see it. I will admit that it was enchanting...but it made me feel sad more than anything.” His eyes trailed back to Fawnpaw. "What did you think of it?"

Rainwhisper has been fishing a little ways downstream when he heard the splashing apprentices. With a slight smirk and a flick of his tail he headed upstream to the small group with two fish, one small trout and on large pike.
As he approached the group, he set his fish down and meowed a greeting to them, a slight wave of awkwardness flushing through him as he saw Torrentfeather. His sister, Willowwings was a good friend of Torrentfeather’s and he recently noticed his sister trying to set him up with the pretty molly. Not that he would mind getting to know her better.

"Don't worry so much Fawnpaw! I promise that we'll be just fine, I've been swimming so many times now that I'm practically a fish!" That was a lie. Truthfully, Pebblepaw hadn't been to the river in quite some time.... with training and all! The slightest inkling of guilt was creeping into his brain, but he shook it off easily as the pair continued the short distance to the river. Glee filled his chest at the sight and Pebblepaw quickly bounded forward to the sandy bank, turning to glance back at his companion.

"We can take it slow if you want to," there was a genuine worry to his voice, "It's still scary learning, but I promise it will be ok!" And with that statement, the chubby apprentice slid not so gracefully into the river, making sure his paws still touched the ground... He didn't want to just throw himself into the deep.
The jolly nature of Pebblepaw didn't quite hit the mark in reassuring Fawnpaw and his concerns about safety, because sizing him up, he could pretty safely conclude that he wouldn't be the heroic savior tugging him free of a swirling river threatening to wash him downstream. Fawnpaw gulped. You're probably the most talkative fish I've ever come across," he half-joked, quiet and uncertain, wishing he felt more confident in their collective ability.

Breaking into a trot as they reached the river, Fawnpaw staggered to a stop near the edge and peeked into the waters lapping at the cat tails of the bank. Tuning out Pebblepaw unconsciously, he was distracted by the gradual descent into the water that included one paw tentatively testing the depth. "Are your paws touching the bottom?" he asked, eyes bright with cautious curiosity. Fawnpaw shuffled forward, paws sliding forward centimeter by centimeter until the tips of his toes felt water climbing over his fur.

"Oh, oh, hi Rainwhisper! Did you see what I caught?" keeping his head raised high Dodgepaw approached the large tom.

Torrentfeather dipped her head modestly at Rainwhisper, shuffling on her paws. "Nice of you to join us."

"Rainwhisper!" Pigeonpaw trotted gleefully up to her mentor, holding the fish that she caught. "Sorry we didn't ask you first. I reeeeally wanted to go hunting, and Torrentfeather said I could go with her and Dodgepaw!" She explained in a hurry, although she was sure her mentor wouldn't be very upset with her. She had caught something, after all!
She could sense some sort of awkward feeling between the two warriors in their presence, though.

Dodgepaw and Torrentfeather glanced at each other, then Torrentfeather padded up to Rainwhisper. "We were just heading back to camp."

"What did you think of it?"
As Graypaw fell beside him again, Fawnpaw was a bit breathless, riding a weird elation from the burst of energy and the banter despite his usual unrelenting awkwardness in social situations. Even though he and Graypaw weren't strangers to one another, it was still far from typical that he'd find someone he could be a little more relaxed with, make playful jabs at. The chemistry felt right, and he was relieved to have eased Graypaw into a smile. Maybe he would've returned it -- as it was indeed infectious -- if he hadn't been called 'so weird' a moment later. Fawnpaw puffed his cheeks, huffing into a mock-complaint. "See, that's what I was talking about. A gentleman," he stressed, teasing, "wouldn't have said that. A gentleman would tell me I'm, uh, ... delightful. Yeah."

Fawnpaw took note of the expectation and was glad it hadn't been woefully inadequate, though he couldn't have blamed Graypaw if he was disappointed nonetheless. It was such a stark contrast, his reckless approach paired with the assumption Fawnpaw held that he'd have a plan, expectations, perceived outcomes. An entire, thoroughly-crafted list before he'd step foot on an adventure. "I... seriously don't know how you do that," he commented. "Aren't you concerned you're going to-- I don't know, get into a bad situation, and nobody knows you're in danger?" Only half-joking, he added, "You're not always going to have some weird apprentice asking to come with you."

Surprised that his opinion was requested, Fawnpaw mindlessly peered into the scenery, thoughtful. "Kind of felt like, intimate, in a way. I'm not sure if that makes sense. It just seemed... like we were seeing this super personal moment," he paused, eyebrows scrunching, "that we weren't supposed to be a part of." It was voyeuristic, selfish. They were spectating disaster, carefree, from the sidelines. "Surreal, I guess."

“Ohh, so you want me to call you delightful?” Graypaw teased, that familiar smirk curling back into his muzzle. His eyes narrowed at Fawnpaw, mischievous and glittery. “Well then, I’m not sure if you deserve that title just yet. You’re still a weirdo, especially for wanting to come on an adventure with me.” Playfully bumping shoulders, Graypaw picked up the pace a bit so he’d be the one leading their walk. Graypaw wasn't used to getting along so easily with someone. Their conversation seemed to flow like second nature – something he’d never experienced before. Usually, he gets tongue-tied, bored too easily, or simply can't find anyone who actually wants to hang out with him. Stars, Fawnpaw might be the only cat who voluntarily wanted to hang out with him. “Though I guess that last bit kinda does kind of make you little delightful...”

Angling an ear at Fawnpaw’s next question, Graypaw expressed a more thoughtful face, nodding in consideration. “I guess there’s always that concern, even in the comfort of our own territory. Anything can happen anywhere, at any time, if you think about it.” Fawnpaw’s last statement made him smile again, naturally. “I’m still wondering why you wanted to come along.” He left the statement at that, letting Fawnpaw decide whether or not he wanted to reply. Graypaw wasn't usually one to get into people’s business, but something about the small tom intrigued him.

Graypaw was impressed with Fawnpaw’s opinion on their experience. He didn't know Fawnpaw was the type to be so deep, personal, and...poetic about his feelings. Then again, he was more on the talkative side – which also intimidated Graypaw. It made him feel embarrassed with his own simpleminded reply. Sheepishly, Graypaw replied. “You have an interesting point of view on things.”
