Lainey frowned at the first part, hiding her annoyance. At least I have decent income for the "not popular" shop I own. She thought bitterly, but pushed it out of her mind. She widened her eyes at the "join shops part". "Of course you can trust me. I'd love to join shops with you." She said politely, hiding her bursting excitement.

"Though I can believe that you might have stolen from me, that is definitely not mine. You might want to put that down." he wasn't very smart, for a thief. Maybe he was just crafty, and didn't have much common sense. "You have very light fingers, might I add. I didn't feel a thing... Unless you just bumped into me by accident. If you did steal, you've done a good job. I congratulate you. If you didn't... You're quite the idiot. Mind telling me what you stole?" this was one of the only situations he could "tower" over someone, and he took advantage of it.

Ray emptied his pockets into a small pile. "If I did steal from you it's in there," he stated flatly, finally turning around. "I really don't have time for this, you know. Take it or leave it." The thief had already taken all of the money out of he wallets and coinpurses, so he didn't mind turning over anything. He just hoped the stranger wouldn't check inside, but he didn't have problems with that before. "For the record, I'm not an idiot," he added, stretching, "You ought to think twice before overestimating the weight of my fingers. If I did steal from you, I doubt you'd have noticed in the pushy crowd at the train station. I either bumped into you or did just that and stole from you. Make up your mind before you question me further, friend."

Valerie smiled. "Great! Follow me!" She nodded at Carlie, and they both walked out towards her store. She grabbed an old washcloth and shooed her costumers out. They mumbled their goodbyes and walked away. A particularly cranky old lady turned to her husband. "I told you Clock's making the closing hours come sooner..." Valerie smiled. "That's Mrs. Franklesnort. She calls me Clock or Watchtower. I like it" She picked up a broom and began to dance an intricate pattern on the floor, poking the broomstick into bookshelves and cranies. Suddenly, the floor gave out under her and she fell onto a mattress a couple of feet down. Her voice yelled out at Carlie and Lainey. "Come down!"

Quite a few wallets and purses, though none of them his. There'd be no fault in looking through one, he thought, though as he opened one there was nothing inside. Crafty little thief. "I would, but first of all..." he tossed the open wallet back onto the pile. "None of that is mine. Second of all, there'd be no point... You've emptied the lot. I'm not your little sheep-minded commoner, thief." he took a seat by the fountain edge, crossing his legs and staring at the pile. "We have no quarrel, now."

"Seems so," Ray replied, somewhat relieved, "I lied, by the way. I have all of the time in the world; thieving is my occupation after all. What's got you in a rush?" The pickpocketer set all of the wallets on a nearby bench for retrieving, if anyone was even coming back from the train station rather than going somewhere else. He returned to the fountain briefly, stuffing his roll of dollars in his pocket.

"Thieving is your occupation? What a life you lead." he glanced at the man, still quite apprehensive. "Perhaps I lied, too. I have some free time on my hands." with that, he extended a hand out to the man, looking at him. "Call me Maurine. And who do I owe the honour of meeting today?" maybe the thief wouldn't be so bad, at least if he didn't steal any of his belongings as they were exchanging pleasantries.
