Kila's mouth snapped shut immediately.

"Too slow Janja!" Kion sang over his shoulder, ducking under a few trees as he neared a watering hole.
"You had a head start," Janja reminded him, digging his claws into the ground and pushing himself forward until he reached Kion's side. "How's that for slow?"
Kion smirked over at him. "You're alright."
"Well hey," Janja smiled back, nudging his shoulder lightly against Kion's. "I caught ya, didnt I?"
"Guess so." Kion stuck his tongue out. "How much do ya like water, Janja?"
"Huh?" Janja looked back ahead, and immediately slammed his paws down, coming to a swift stop at the edge of the water. "That was close!" He chuckled slightly.
"No," Kion laughed, and skidded to a stop beside him. "That was funny."
"I'll show you funny, Cub!" Janja suddenly lunged at him and sent them both rolling into the water, not caring that he was getting wet too.

Beshte hummed, watching Kion and Janja from the mud. Being a hippo, the cool mud helped out in the heat.

"Pinned ya." Janja smirked victoriously, managing to pin the cub, but making sure his head stayed above the water so he didnt drown.
"Oh, get off!" Kion kicked him off playfully, rolling onto his stomach. He tensed as Janja turned away, smirking. And wipe that smug look of your face! He thought before lunging. Somehow, though, he ended up back on his back, this time in the grass.
"Pinned ya 'gain." Janja smiled, his nose only inches from Kion's.
Kion grinned, pushing him off. "Showoff. I could pin you if I wanted."
"Right." Janja smirked, flicking his tail at Kion's nose playfully before turning to look back over the Pridelands. "Hey, Cub?"
"Yeah?" Kion shook his fur out, not really caring that he was wet. In fact, he liked the water.
"You wont get in trouble for this, right?" Janja asked cautiously, staring straight ahead. Honestly, he wasnt sure why he cared. He just... Did.
"Honestly?" Kion looked up at the starry sky. "I dont know. Probably. But... It is what it is. I love the Pridelands, and I love my family, and I love the Guard, and I love saving animals. But..." His eyes narrowed. "If... I have to reject one to protect the many... I dont want any part of it."
Janja glanced at him, then sighed, leaning forward to nudge his nose against the cub's shoulder. "Whatever happens..."
"Whatever happens," Kion returned the nudge, standing up and padding over to the water to look down at his reflection. "I'll be ready for it."
"You always are, Lion Cub." Janja smiled a little, following his gaze. "You always are."

"Well, the night's not over yet." Janja said eventually.
"I like it at night." Kion admitted, turning his head a bit to look over the Pridelands. "And this is... This is nice."
"I agree." Janja smiled. "I really dont want this to end."
"Me either." Kion shrugged, giving him a warm smile. Then he looked down at the water. "And it doesnt have to." With that he laid down, resting his head on his paws.
Janja blinked down at him. "Are you going to sleep?"
"Im tired." Kion mumbled. "Running through the Pridelands wears you out." He glanced up. "Can you stay?" Then he paused. "But if im not awake before dawn, you might wanna leave fast in case the others do find us."
Janja sighed, gazing at him for a moment, then finally gave in. "Fine." He laid down beside the cub. "Whatever you want."
Kion smirked victoriously, closing his eyes. "Goodnight, Janja."
"Goodnight, Cub." Janja watched him as the cub fell asleep. Kion was definitely vulnerable at this point - And if Janja wanted to, it would be all too easy to take him out now. But... Janja didnt want to. In fact the thought never even crossed his mind. The hyena was silent, listening to the cub's soft snores. Then he moved forward, and rested his head beside Kion's, letting his eyes drift shut.

Suddenly, a large spray of water splashed Kion and Janja "RISE AND SHINE!!!" Beshte yelled

Kion jerked awake with a spluttering gasp, scrambling to his paws. His fur bristled as soon as he saw Beshte. Then without a word, he gave Janja a swift kick to wake him, since the water didnt seem to be doing so.
"What--!" Janja leaped up, bristling as well. When he saw Beshte, his ears went back. "Ohhh beetle-dung!"
