Re: ShadowClan Training Cliffs

Finchwhisker was rather surprised to see Finchpaw fail to dodge the simple move. But what he also hadn't expected was a counterattack. The sudden swipe against his one steady foot caused him to fall to the ground beside his apprentice. Smart. Finchpaw may not have followed directions, but it was a clever move, so he supposed he'd let it slide. Recovering quickly before the apprentice thought he could get away with more, the deputy thought up a final attack. He'd already gone in from both the side and the front, so he'd come down from above this time. Finchpaw might get a bit squished beneath his weight if the move landed, but it would be a sort of payback for catching him off guard with the counterattack earlier.
Standing back up, the dark tabby started walking. But he didn't go straight in for the move and instead started to slowly circle around the apprentice. He wanted to see how Finchpaw would react if he went down a more... suspenseful route. The panic he'd sensed earlier remained fresh in his mind, and he wanted to test if something similar would happen again under a different scenario. After a couple of laps of creeping around and staring down the younger tom, he thrust forward suddenly, springing up higher than usual in an attempt to land on the apprentice's back.

Darktiger smiled and looked at her apprentice and nods. "There you go." She crept forward and tried to attack.

The apprentice, as swiftly as she could, dodged her mentor's attack and quickly pounced forward attempting to swipe at her. ‧₊˚┊ @Silverfur & Co

Getting up to his paws Finchpaw smirked as he saw his own mentor hit the ground. His move had worked! The tom scrambled to his paws and crouched in front of the deputy eyeing him as the larger tom had begun circling him.
He didn’t like that tactic, it made him bristle. On one hand he wanted to confidently watch the warrior, without jumping to his sides like a frightened kit. On the other he knew that he shouldn’t let his mentor leave his vision, even for a split second.
Just as the bigger tom was rearing back towards him Finchpaw saw Finchwhisker pick up speed. His initial move was to dart to the side but, to his surprise, Finchwhisker leaped and came for him from above. Finchpaw was unprepared and his options swam rapidly through his mind as Finchwhiskers paws came barreling at him. In his limited response time the tom simply dropped to the ground and tried to roll away but his mentors paws landed around him, trapping him underneath Finchwhisker. Trapped beneath his mentor with weight pressing down on him, he let out a hiss as he tried his best to swirl around and place his paws on the older toms stomach in an attempt to push him off. His attempt wasn’t going to well.

Wolfwhisper tilt his head, raising a non-existent eyebrow. "Hmm? Did you say something?" He asked curiously. He could swear he could have heard .. "Must have been the wind! Aha, offense. Sounds good!" Then a stupid smile popped back onto his face. Jeez, he did try to keep it small.
He thought for a moment before giving a nod. "Technically this can be a really good defense move if you're pinned -- go for the belly but..! Generally you slip under the opponent and slice their well uh, stomach with your claws,, It's definitely a fight-stopper but er, needed. In an actual battle, " Wolfwhisper shuffled with his paws, he hoped this wasn't too brutal. He just.. wanted to make sure Rookpaw could defend herself and survive.
"Be aware if they decide to just.. sit on you.. or dodge. If they're going to - look at their legs. You can see if they're bracing to move. Try this move out and then we can try a defense move.. then uh, well let's see how you do in a... spar..?" He meowed, gosh he sucked at this. He tried to recall what his mentor did with him.

Rookpaw was honestly itching to beat someone up most of the time. She had a lot of suppressed aggression and battle training was certainly a way to let it all out. She assumed he didn't mean that she had to actually claw him, since claws were not allowed when sparring. So she slipped downwards to the ground as she ran at him and kicked up with her legs into his stomach, claws sheathed. If she weren't so skinny, she could probably lift someone into the air like that, considering she was very long-legged. This meant her kicks had a lot of force behind them.

Wolfwhisper was quite used to feeling the force of blows. Despite his lack of height - he was still quite stocky. He could handle them well. He didn't bother to dodge because he did want Rookpaw to practice this move. What he was not suspecting was the force behind her blows. Starclan, his apprentice didn't hold back.
He moved out of the way, no longer wanting to deal with the kicks to his stomach. "G, good job!" Wolfwhisper squeaked out, regaining his composure. He wished he hadn't ate prior to this. "Okay!! Soo.. uh, this one is pretty simple. What you're going to want to do is unbalance your opponent, " He meowed.
"Youuu take your paw and you just, " He lashed out at the air with his frontpaw. "Go for one of the weak parts of whatever limb you're targeting to unbalance them. Thennn.. you flee while you can!! Sounds good?"

Rookpaw got back up and shook her pelt. She wondered if she was doing well. How had other apprentices done? Was she good, average or bad? Her competitive side was itching to know. She decided to focus on the current move. She was a little worried since her foresaw weren't very strong. She also noted that thus move would be very dangerous against her.
Rookpaw took position and swiped at Wolfwhisper's front knee, trying to unbalance him.

Finchwhisker didn't like the smug look on Finchpaw's face one bit. It made his choice of an alarm-inducing buildup even more justified. The apprentice began to bristle up just as expected, which was completely normal for almost any cat facing this type of attack. However, the level of fear he could sense was over the top. That really wasn't going to put him in a good headspace when the actual attack came.
Once the attack had landed, the dark tabby waited for a few moments as Finchpaw sank beneath his weight. He felt the younger tom struggling below him, but made no attempt to budge. After letting Finchpaw twist and kick around a few moments longer, the deputy simply lifted himself up and allowed the apprentice to get up. They were done with this portion of training for now.
"We've got quite a bit of work to do with your reflexes and defense." It was clear that Finchpaw had paid more attention to attacks rather than dodges whilst watching the other apprentices train. "Your reflexes should develop with time and practice, however, we'll begin actual training today with defense. We'll wrap up with attacks since you already seem to have the basics down."
"The first defensive tactic is called the duck and roll. You'll find this beneficial for attacks similar to the last one I used on you. The name of the move says it all. Drop to the ground and roll a safe distance away. Try to do it in a fluid motion and time the roll so you land back on your feet immediately. Try it."
