You know, sometimes he just got the feeling that his son didn't enjoy talking to him, for some odd reason.
Not right now, obviously. Wolfpeak didn't even consider the idea that his quieter son might now like spending time with him. It wasn't that he didn't like talking to him, it was just he was a man of few words. Sometimes, though, he felt like he couldn't do anything right when it came to his son. Some of it was his fault, he could be a little critical at times, but even when he tried his hardest it seemed like his intent was assumed to be the worst.
He wouldn't make the same mistake with his grandchildren.
He forced a chuckle, and chummily replied, "I'd ask to join you, but by the sounds of it, it's a solitary activity, no?" That was NOT a jab, though it could be taken as one. He was practically sweating from all the work of trying not to come off as critical or assholeish. Why was it so much easier with his daughters? Maybe because they said more, so he knew how they were feeling. Maybe it was because they showed emotions, instead of using the mask that seemed to cover his son's every emotion. Or maybe it was because he coddled the girls a little more. Of course he didn't. That was ridiculous.
And if he did, he had a good reason to! (just none that he could think up at the moment).
Regaining his natural expression with a frown, he glanced towards the nursery. at least Rumblewolf was continuing the conversation. That counted for something, because he certainly didn't teach the boy manners. Maybe the kid's mother did, but she was here to tell him if that was the case or not, so he just assumed that his son was continuing the conversation because he wanted to, not out of politeness.
The massive warrior lowered his head slightly, looking back from where his eyes had strayed to the nursery den. "Just got finished bringing your sister a meal, and I-" He paused, trying to think of a way to phrase this next part that wouldn't make him sound like a sissy. "Cleaned out her nest and stuff, since the apprentices are absolute rubbish at making sure there's no twigs or thorns in the moss." By this, he meant that while Silverbird was eating, he had fashioned a nest that was thicker than three regular nests stacked on top of each other and thing covered it in feathers and stuff. But he wasn't going to say that, for fear of being accused of the parenting crime that was favoritism.
Which he wasn't. He didn't have a favorite kid (his least favorite was updated almost daily, but that wasn't the same), he just felt the need to care for his pregnant daughter, since her garbage bag of a mate didn't even stick around. And because he had to be the best grandpa in the world to make up for being a lousy dad. "Are you excited for the kits to come?" He asked after a moment of silence. If only they didn't act like they disliked each other all the time (or at least, he hoped that it was acting), conversation could flow a little smoother. How could it not, with Wolfpeak's fantastic social skills?
Ruepaw looks around to see if anyone is watching before he falls to the ground and rolls onto his back to wiggle like a worm.

RUMBLEWOLF ( @jupiter )
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
➣ "You can come." The large ShadowClan tomcat murmured, his dark amber-hued eyes not meeting his father's gaze anymore, "If you want to." He honestly didn't know why he was saying these things, already feeling gross by saying so many words at once. However, deep deep within Rumblewolf's soul, he wanted to attempt to have better relationship with his familyᅳespecially his father. Perhaps that was a strange thing for the young adult warrior to desire, but there was no doubt that family was important to many of those in ShadowClan. Several examples of such popped into his head then, but none of which were his own blood kin. "More paws means more prey." Rumblewolf explained briefly to Wolfpeak, feeling a bit uncomfortable for some reason. Maybe it was the "people-pleaser" in him, urging to make his father happy, or simply because he was having to speak more than he had wanted to today. "...for ShadowClan." He added, finally turning and peering up at the smoke-black tomcat. He was still that strange sense of blank, showing no nervous behavior or any clear emotion really. If someone really wanted to figure him out, they would have to pay more close attention to Rumblewolf most likely.
Seeing Wolfpeak's eyes travel over to the ShadowClan nursery, the grey-furred warrior silently did the same, tufted ears twitching once, no twice, before rendering still. He knew well enough that his sister was within that den, heavy with kittens that belonged to a father that wasn't here. Before he could think upon it anymore, the smoke-black warrior beside him began to speak once more, and Rumblewolf was silently drawn from his thoughts. He made a small huff through his nose, that being the closest Wolfpeak would get at this time to seeing his quiet son find something he said amusing: which was calling the ShadowClan apprentices absolute rubbish. Perhaps he should attempt to visit his sister in the near future in the nursery. After all, these kittens would be family to him. He would be an uncle. Uncle? The single word drifted through his thoughts, almost questioningly. What a strange thing to think about. Was Rumblewolf even capable of being such a thing? Even he himself did not know. How many would there be? How many toms? How many mollies? Would they look more like Silverbird, or their absent father? Rumblewolf stopped himself. Why was he allowing curiosity to bubble within him? None of that now.
Then, his father asked him another question. Was he excited for Silverbird's kittens? Certainly, they'd all become strong, ruthless warriors of ShadowClan, especially if Dawnstar gave them the right mentors when the time came. And knowing her past choices, he had no doubt she would. They would all bring more to the clan in strength and numbers alone. It would be good for them. Yes. Yes."Yes." Rumblewolf answered, doing one single firm nod of his head, nothing more nothing less, with that neutral deep voice of his. "...should go visit her soon." That last part came out as a mere murmur under his breath, thoughtful as he stared at the nursery. He was talking about himself, of course, visiting his pregnant littermate. Would she want to see him? He'd find out.

Mirehound
Settling down on the edge of camp, half of her body lounging in the shadows while the front half had the lizard between her front paws, Mirehound took a bite before observing the clearing. Several warriors lingered about, some kits tumbled here and there. Mostly there wasn't anything too interesting going on as the black rosetted back swallowed her prey and bent their head for another bite.
Butterflykit didn't really think about that stuff. In fact, they half-forgot that they'd be an apprentice soon. It just seemed a little unimportant in their eyes, but it wasn't a bad thing to learn. They'd have to do that for their mentor eventually, so maybe knowing things earlier would set them up for success. They mostly expected their mentor to be someone who hated them, or if they were lucky, just ignored them, but if they didn't fail at things, it could potentially be better than that, right?
"Okay." They mewed quietly with a gentle nod and smile.
Butterflykit kind of agreed because of the mentor thing, but they also were terrible at saying no. Especially to Foxpaw. Foxpaw was liked by cats and she was good at the things she did and she was respected. Butterflykit envied cats like that. They couldn't help but yearn to be like that, but that wasn't something they could admit right now. All they knew is that being... friends... was an opportunity.
(i totally forgot butterfly needed to take the kit curriculum classes but as soon as they do that i believe they can be an apprentice!)
[yeah the new kit classes things are gonna throw me off too. I applied my RC kit to them but im genuinely not sure if im even doing them right lol]
Foxpaw purred happily. Which surprised herself. She had never purred before. Huh. That was an interesting feeling. She thought of Fly again, and the idea of them being training partners, and it made her purr again. She kinda liked the feeling of it. It made her happy to know that she could. Because with her entire immediate family having gone missing, and the whole clan kinda just not caring, she felt kinda down and like she had to be tough a lot. But with Fly, she could be herself. Be a role model for the younger cat. "Right, so I'm not so great with hunting and stuff, but I can show you a hunters crouch, or we could work battles moves. Your choice." Foxpaw said.

Shadowfur stretched, lying on his side. He gave a little mrrup of contentment. There was no precipitation tonight, only clouds that covered most of the sky. The camp was in total darkness, a state that Shadowfur much enjoyed.
His fur was fluffed up against the chilly air, making him look like a big black puffball.

Moth'Cloud carefully took the decomposing leaf from Elmshadow. "Well, lets go." She murmered through the torn and cracking dock'leaf as she walked towards the camps exit.
After completing Spiritkit's kit lesson, Shadowfur decided to go out and check one of the borders. Running over each in his mind, he ended up settling on WindClan. The Enforcer scanned the clearing, looking for someone to order to go with him.
Spotting his target, he called to the warrior. "Foxcall! Come join me; we're going to check the WindClan border." He waited, tail sweeping low to the ground, for Foxcall to come over.
