Well, Honeypaw seemed determined. Eagleflower huddled in a nearby bush, trying to to make any noise. He wouldn't ruin his apprentice's first kill. Now THAT would be embarrassing...

By a decently-sized part of the river that wasn't frozen over sat a cream-furred warrior, who was practically quivering with rage. Fennelnose's tail-tip flicked to and fro in controlled movements, as if they were trying desperately to keep it from lashing. Their reflection wobbled on the surface of the water and Fennelnose stared down at it, unblinking. They hissed and swiped at the water, scattering droplets everywhere. This was pitiful! They had been out here for a while, watching the little fish swim by, and every attempt to catch them ended in humiliation.

Stars above, if they couldn't manage to get one measly minnow by the end of the day, Fennelnose might just scream. But they were in RiverClan, and if they didn't try to learn now, they might never approach the river again. So they sat. And watched the fish.

The young warrior, Sandwhisker, had been out on her own type of hunt, aiming for less chilling prey as the river was still not quite encouraging. From the brush behind Fennelnose, the sandy-orange tabby appeared, a small vole clasped between her lips. She hankered for a drink. Her emerald eyes fell to the other warrior, chirping a small greeting as she headed for the river, a few tail-lengths away; she didn't want to muck up thier fishing. Setting her own prey down, she leaned down to lap a slurp of the crisp water. Soon enough, she lifted her white chin, dripping with water, "How's the water?" She teased softly, knowing damn well that it would be cold.

Though not having heard the other warrior approach, Fennelnose spotted her out of the corner of their eye and grimaced. The embarrassment that they had been holding back bloomed, scorching their cheeks and forcing them to look away from Sandwhisker. Someone just had to come at the absolute worst time. Of course!

"Cold, obviously. And stupid," muttered Fennelnose, lashing out once more at the water for good measure. In their irritation, the reclusive personality that they clung to disappeared, replaced by an overwhelming urge to rant about anything to anyone. "It shouldn't be this hard to catch some dumb fish! Can't they just stop swimming for a while so I can grab 'em?" A raspy growl tinged the edge of their words. They glared at the water, refusing to look at the other RiverClanner.

As the other clan-mate noticed her, Sandwhisker watched thier expression twist, which caused her cheekiness to fade ever so slightly. Listening to thier words however brought a purring chuckle through her mouth, "Oh. I see." She flicked her sandy ears in amusement before picking up her catch and bringing herself and it closer to the other. After setting the bleeding vole behind them, the striped female hunkered low, holding herself parallel to the water, peering into it's Crystal rush, but staying low as not to have a reflect, "First of all, you have to get low so they can't see you." She gazed up at the other with beautiful emerald eyes, watching to see if they were willing to be helped @pathos

Sparkheart heard his clanmate call his name. A cat woyld usually get mad when he gets called, but he had a sense of humor. Maybe he could mess with him. Sparkheart didn't say anything and rolled around in the dirt to hide his scent. The ginger tabby tom hid behind a tree, squishing himself so he could be seen. Sparkheart let out a chuckle.

slivershade was closing in on the tom, they could feel it. however all of the sudden-- the trail the warrior was following seemingly trailed off into nothingness. ''huh?" they mumbled, knitting their eyebrows in confusion. they spun around, blue eyes darting around the woods in search of sparkheart. and slivershade kept on spinning, as if it would help their search. slivershade stopped, sticking out their bottom lip in a pouting expression. "not fair! are you hiding!?" they meow out, ''i'm going to get ya! just you wait!" slivershade grin, they were up to this challenge! they began to search the bushes, glancing behind tree after tree. slivershade hum, pausing for a brief moment to run over their thoughts. they could just wait here until sparkheart felt safe and went out then slivershade could pounce out! so, the warrior crouch down-- hiding in the frosted leaves of the bush.

Sparkheart let out a quiet chuckle when the cat called out to him. He waited until his scent faded to come out of hiding. He hated his fur being covered in mud, but it was worth it. The ginger tabby tom shook the mud out his fur, but some still stuck. He would have to end up getting washed up in the river before entering camp. Sparkheart padded back to find Silvershade, but didn't seem to find him. The tom caught his scent real quick, but he couldn't make it out where exactly was at. "Okay! I'm done playing now! Come out come out wherever you are!", he called.

Snowpaw grumbled and continued to walk apathetically, waiting for his eyes to slowly adjust.
He had never wanted to participate in this stupid quest; he hadn’t thought being stuck in a secluded tunnel with the one cat that had to be his mentor was a possibility. He also assumed nothing could make anything worse than it already was.
"Splitting up?"
Fooled again.
His eyes widened in the darkness once again. Clearly this would just end up becoming an expedition to find Glazewing. It seemed almost inevitable. What were the chances of stumbling among a cat that had been lost for moons? She couldn’t possibly be suggesting to take their chances and simply pick a path.
Never before would he have believed to ever feel such a strong sense of apprehension.

Ratpaw shook his head. Nothing. He couldn't smell anything but the blood that tinged the air. He narrowed his eyes- oh Stars, what the hell happened? Was that Alderpaw's blood he smelled? The white tom swallowed the thickening lump in his throat, his nose wrinkling in concern. He slowly walked forward, mind going blank as he stepped through a pair of bushes and out into a clearing. He almost felt sick as he came across the sight. Blood splattered, fur scattered, it was gruesome. Absolutely horrific. Ratpaw could only stare in shock, his jaw hanging open. Even despite the mauled remains, he knew...
... it was Alderpaw.

Willowrose did exactly that. She stared down at the beautiful water. "The water's so beautiful.", she whispered to Baynight. It was absolutely memorizing. Her lower eye just stared down at it, seeing her own reflection inside. She had never seen what her face looked like. Cats would usually think she would hate what she looked like, but she loved the way she looked. Pricklebush always told her how beautiful she really was and now Willowrose could see for herself. The molly glanced away from her reflection to glance at her clanmate.

Baynight acknowledged her commend about the water with a slight nod. He had never noticed before, but it was sorta pretty. A moment later, the dark coloured tom spotted a fish swim lazily towards the surface, unaware of the cats that were mere inches above. Quick as a flash, Baynight flung out a paw, disrupting the glassy water. He felt a thrill of satisfaction as he hooked the wiggling creature onto the land beside the two. It flopped uselessly for a second before he dipped his head and snapped it's neck delicately between his teeth. "If you leave it on land enough," Baynight meowed, looking toward Willowrose, "it will die from suffocation. But I like to kill them quickly. No need to prolong the pain." The RiverClan tom knew it must be at least uncomfortable out of the water, and, plus, he hated seeing them thrash around; it grossed him out.

Willowrose watched Baynight as he caught the fish. She stared at him with her good eye in awe. Would she be able to do that? It was worth a try. The black and white molly looked back down at the flowing river. Willowrose watched with her lower eye as a shadow of a fish swam by. She aimed a blow with her claws and scooped it up. It tried to wiggle back into the river, but she was too fast for it. The molly threw it on the surface and killed it with a swift bite. ”Like that?”, Willowrose asked.
