Their team was tied for the lead, huh? That was good, though not exactly the most impressive, considering how many of her Clanmates hadn't brought back anything. Not to mention that they should be at an advantage, being a group of four... She'd just have to do her best, she supposed.

Heroneye looked with disapproval at her catch--yes, catch, not catches. She had failed three pieces of prey, how embarrassing. For a moment there, she'd wondered if she'd wind up catching anything at all--though she'd managed to catch another mouse at the last moment. She would very much have liked to get more than just that, of course, but she was running out of time. Nothing left to do but turn in what she had and hope her teammates had picked up her slack.

Their team was tied for the lead; good. Granted, the extra cat in their group gave them an advantage, so it was little surprise. Irisfrost wondered if Owltalon had some way to make the playing field even again. The deputy had never said she did, only that each group had equal advantages and disadvantages. But no-one could deny that a group with four members would likely bring in more prey than one with three.

But then, it was her group that got the advantage. So she didn't mind.

Two pieces of prey. Not bad, but she'd missed more than she caught. But it was leaf-bare, after all, and some of her clanmates had caught less than her. She should be grateful that she'd caught that much. After whispering a prayer of thanks to StarClan, Irisfrost picked up her vole and mouse and brought her catches back to Owltalon.

The tom watched as the apprentice went, nodding as if encouragement. “Ya we’re close…you’ll get it next time fer’ sure!” he then looked to WisteriaWren, catching her brief look, then she went on. Another catch, and he could help but feel some joy for her.

Now, his turn! He scented the air. Bird! Perfect. He crouched down, stalking after it…but the damned thing noticed him quickly! He did his best to pounce, but it flew away too quickly and the prey was long missed. Well, next attempt was a mouse that was oddly close…pounce! Nope…it scattered away. Dammit, was he okay right now? He had to catch something! Squirrel. Another squirrel. A large target, easier to get, it worked. Finally, he successfully pounced, pinned his kill, and killed it.

Well, they should've had plenty of time now, even more than usual. With a quick flick of her tail, the deputy rose from where she was seated and let out a yowl. "Aye, Riverclan! Times up. I'll be callin' winners 'ere, but I cannot stress enough how proud I am of all of ya. Well, I'm less proud of the cats who didn't do anythin', but I'm still proud." Shadowpaw was nowhere to be seen, Starclan knows where she went. Ratjump might as well had been air, because they barely did anything either. As for Plumshade, the she-cat seemed to be displaying as a bag of rocks, because she couldn't be more inactive.

"Firstly, wanna congratulate Stagheart and Sunsetgleam for comin' in second. Y'all reeled in a good amount of kills despite missin' a member, once again provin' yer worth and devotion ta Riverclan." She shot the two cats a wide smile. Even though, they didn't win, their courage was admirable.

"As fer Heroneye, Irisfrost, Beaverpaw, n' Adderstrike, they won the competition. I even skewed their prey ta make it lower ta take the extra member inta account, but even then, they reached the highest prey count." She looked to the cats with a small smile. "While ya did have a bit of fortune on her side, ya provided fer the clan no less, and diligently."

The deputy then shuffled a bit, allowing a few feathers to fall from her matted fur. She took the skulls at her paws and nudged them along through the sand as she walked over to the group of four. "Congrats ya guys. Never doubted ya, eh? 'Ere ya are, take yer pick." She gave her trinkets a small nudge. "If ya ain't a fan of hawk feathers n' skulls, I've got some pretty rocks to. Just let me know, kay?"

Her amber eye then scanned the rest of the cats, her tail raising. "That's all. Thank ya all fer participating. Yer effort singlehandedly gave us more than twenty kinds of prey. Al'ight Riverclan, at my paws! Let's head out."

Breezepaw sighed. He wanted to at least get second but...... no.. even though he had two lionhearts they whelp didn't really help. He had caught the majority but... He padded over to Irisfrost.

"Nice job Irisfrost!" he said to his amazing mentor "Can you.. teach me to hunt on land more? The prey keeps hearing me and running away.." He said tail drooping.

Beaverpaw was a bit surprised at the win.
But, the other cats on his team were really skilled and stuff, so it... made sense?
He was just lucky to end up on a team with them.

At least he got to pick an item now.
He awkwardly picked... uh.... one of the feathers.
Why not.
It looked neat.

He then waited to head back.

Stagheart grunted in acknowledgement back to Owltalon, dipping his head respectfully to the deputy. Second place, eh? Much better than he'd thought, especially with a member down and his incredible unluckiness in that last stretch. He glanced over at Sunsetgleam, whiskers twitching in grim amusement; he didn't care too much about winning, but there was always a level of competitiveness in the capable tom. He was only a warrior, after all.

"Mm... mighta won had I not fumbled o'er my own paws at Lionsbeach. Ya did good, though. Nice work," he congratulated his teammate, tone still as gruff as ever but softened with mutual respect and camaraderie over their underdog efforts. At the very least, they'd provided a good haul for the Clan — and he was more than happy with that. Flicking his tail, the battle-scarred tom reached down and snatched up the prey he'd caught and followed his deputy on the route back home.

Alright. So despite Heroneye's lackluster performance (especially during the last round), her team had managed to win. Granted, they were probably at an advantage given their larger numbers... Though Heroneye didn't entirely feel she deserved it, she would still accept her prize with respect. Or selfishness, maybe.

She nodded to all her teammates in turn, giving them a quiet, "Thank you." Regardless of how they won, they had all put forth effort. That had to mean something, right?

When Owltalon arrived, Heroneye had to keep herself from wrinkling her nose at the birds' skulls. Warriors were, of course, no strangers to such sights, but the idea of collecting animal heads still felt just the tiniest bit grotesque. Not to mention that were both "birds", practically kin (even or perhaps especially as hawks were awful and violent creatures). In any case, she had to imagine that at least one cat on her team would be interested in keeping them for themself.

She smiled gratefully at Owltalon (in her usual haggard way) before reaching over with her claw to hook a few feathers on the ground and pull them towards her. No matter what she thought about the skulls, the feathers were nice. Even if they more or less represented the same thing. Whatever.
