The orange tabby stares hard at the (definitely) dead leaf until he is certain it will never stand again. Slowly, the paw comes away from it and the apprentice huffs out a breath. Turning up his nose to the leaf, Daypaw catches the gaze of a warrior and freezes. Very much so unknowingly sharing the same idea as them, he figures that standing as still as a statue (what's a statue?) would eventually dismiss any rising suspicion in his antics. But his brown eyes begin to twitch with the need to divert his gaze, and after a hot second, his willpower bows to that of the snowy warrior. He looks away. But only for a second!

That wouldn't last and everyone, even dear mama in the grave (stars bless her soul), knew it. He looks at Snowecho and trots closer, tail arcing into a question mark. He gives a friendly chirp when close. "Hello."

Oh no. Oh no, no, no, their tactic didn't work. What were they supposed to do now? Continue to pretend that he was a tree, still and silent, even as the other began to approach with a quizzical look on their face? No, that would never work. Oh, maybe he could pretend to faint! And if he laid there long enough then he'd be left alone! ... What if the young one had half a mind to fetch Elmshadow, though? That would be even worse. Even more embarrassing. Without much a choice left, the younger cat upon them, their one-eyed gaze stays practically lazer-focused in. Seemed friendly enough... Ah, but he didn't deserve such friendliness...

"... Hi." He meows quietly in response, letting his eye travel for just a second to scan if there was another warrior nearby to save him. "Did you... Need something? From me? Or..."

"No," Day says with a shake of the head and a hum between the lips. "Not particularly."

He peers around Snowecho to the prey on the ground, clear longing in his gaze. Food, my beloved... I've come for your paw in holy union but this evil terror stand between us...

"Can I... Can I eat?" He gives the warrior a wary glance, clearly assuming that as an apprentice... He needed permission from a warrior to eat. His tail lowers and swipes over the ground as he stands in wait, poised for the taking of that big, fat, probably super juicy and tasty squirrel...

If the pale tom could get any more pale, he would be doing so in this exact moment. Stars above, what was he doing?! Standing guard over the fresh-kill pile like some kind of sentinel? Swallowing hard, they immediately scramble to their paws and move out of the apprentice's way. Stupid, useless, annoying... His fur stands on end despite his best attempt to calm down. Which isn't a very good attempt at all.

"Y-You don't have to ask me." He sputters, ears laying back against his head. "I didn't mean to be in your way... Sorry, sorry... Please eat. In fact, you can eat my dinner tonight, too..."

What did they do to deserve this suffering?

He nods slowly and dips around the cat to grab the prize he had his eyes on, dragging it away from the pile to crouch over. "Thanks, but,"

He works on processing a mouthful of squirrel leg, humming through the mush,

"I don't think they'd like that much,"

More chewing, more weird eating cat noises,

"And besides,"

Gulp.

"I need to go on a diet. I mean, look at me." He lifts a kitty brow at Snowecho and waves his tail over his flank, indicating to the pudge that kinda flattened over the ground while he crouched.

Was... Was he supposed to answer to that, or...?

The last thing they would dare do after having inconvenienced him was agree to the rather crude critique of his physique. There was nothing wrong with having extra fat, especially when Leafbare came! If anything, the somewhat lanky cat known as Snowecho could do with more meat on his bones. Would he allow himself the luxury? Most likely not. Looking Daypaw over rather quickly, they just shake their head at him and turn their attention elsewhere.

"I-I don't think so... I think you look fine... I mean, extra weight is helpful, right? To keep you warm... You'll be nice and warm and do better in fights... Imagine, having more to cushion an attack..."

Oh great Starclan, he was rambling wayyyyy too much now. Shut up, idiot! You don't even know this guy and you're running your mouth. Oh young one, please lay every insult upon him that you can think of as punishment for this mistake!

Daypaw's eyebrows raise again, this time in silent and judgmental doubt over what the warrior said. He didn't consider himself any more padded and safe from attack than the next, physically fit, cat. But that's usually how the un-pudged viewed those with pudge.

The cat takes another snappy bite of squirrel belly (oh the guts!) and coughs through his delightful mouth full of belly on some long fur that was refusing to go down. Doing his best to swallow the food prior to hacking up a lung, Daypaw struggles. It was comical to anyone watching, at least.

After his one-man-war against squirrel fur, Daypaw lets out a deep sigh. "Imagine looking like you in an attack," he says prior to licking his chops, eyes moving up and down Snowecho.

"I mean, snow white over there, not really hidden unless you're burying yourself in all of this nonexistent snow we're getting."

Sagechaser looked around again, this time catching sight of the pretty bug, fluttering away. "Oh," he said in realization, turning back to Shadowkit. "Sorry 'bout getting in your way! Bet you would've caught it!" he apologized cheerfully. Since the kit hadn't said she wanted his help getting up, Sagechaser sat back on his haunches and peered at her, curious about what antics she'd get up to next.

In this very moment Snowecho wishes they could sink into the ground. Melt away into a puddle like snow come Newleaf. Astonished by the apprentice's harsh insinuation, he just stares with a wide eye. How bold, how forward... How... Rude. Though the warrior would never say a word about the lack of respect-- he deserved it, honestly-- it didn't make it any less jarring. It seemed as though every day his fur was growing lighter and lighter. Stress of every day life was aging him so rapidly that he was bound to die any day now from old age, right?

"It's dreadful, isn't it? This useless pelt of mine... It's going to get me killed, for sure... I'm surprised it hasn't already."

Gloom, gloom, sulk, sulk. The more they speak the more shrouded in gloom they become. It's as if it was radiating off of them at this point.

Raspy tongue glided through thick, shiny gray fur as Mousepaw cleaned his pelt, weary after a hard day of patrolling. It wasn't the patrol necessarily he had disliked, but the cats involved. Cat. It was one. Not only that, but he much preferred night time activities, truth be told. Still, the stocky tom assumed it wasn't a bad idea, stepping out of his comfort zone every now and then. It kept him on his toes. He wasn't one to be lazy, after all.

Rounded ears perked up as he heard his name called from an unfamiliar voice, shifting his attention from the slight swell in his shoulder to a dark tom in the clearing. Recognizing him instantly as the feline that had been made enforcer the same day as Sir Bits, he tilted his head curiously. Aside of Auntie Larky and Sir Bits, he did not really talk much to enforcers, keeping out of trouble as he did and mostly doing his chores promptly and on schedule. Had something happened? Oh oh, maybe they were going to go patrol the ThunderClan border? Find some cats to teach a lesson to there.

Eager at the thought of this prospect and getting to spend some time with Pip - he hadn't missed the apprentice's name being called, heh heh - he padded forward, Pippaw already approaching the enforcer. "Hello hello, how do you do?" Mousepaw called to Nighthound as he joined the darker furred apprentice, dipping his head respectfully at the higher rank despite his usual, happy-go-lucky greeting. "Hiya, Pip!" Mousepaw quickly added, attempting to bump his shoulder affectionately against the somewhat younger tom's. Quickly regretting this as the sting on his shoulder mildly complained, he sat down, giving the enforcer an expectant, inquisitive look.
