High Rank Announcement [#hrannouncement]

All of the kits had stepped forward - this was good, and meant Kestrelstar could continue this ceremony. The faster it was over the faster he could disappear into his den. Bile was rising in his throat and the rock he was standing on felt as though it was shifting - he needed to get down as soon as he could, before the anger that swam in his head took over.

Of course, one kit was always late - little Fidgetkit. "Fidgetkit, step forward as well." Was that annoyance? He swallowed, hoping it hadn't been noticed by the young kit as he gestured with his tail for the tom to join the other kits at the front.

"You're about to embark on your warrior training. I want you all focused and disciplined. We need all the warriors we can get in the coming moons." There was an edge to Kestrelstar's voice as he addressed the apprentices prior to the ceremonies. Was it unusual? Sure. But the tendrils of shadows were beginning to take hold, and infiltrate his darkening yellow gaze.

"Until that day is reached, you shall be known as Mistypaw, Birchpaw, Rainingpaw, Crowpaw, Lightpaw, Orchidpaw, Fidgetpaw, and Tumblepaw."

"Mistypaw [ @~Storm~ ] your mentor will be Stormtalon [ @Ziera ].
Birchpaw [ @Peril ] your mentor will be Sedgestorm [ @Rainquail ].
Rainingpaw [ @shaded shadow ] you will be trained by Moonfrost [ @RiztheHuntress ].
Crowpaw [ @windtail ] your mentor is Riverwing [ @Snowpelt1111 ].
Lightpaw [ @im a cat ] your training will be by Loonry [ @Jayfeather 76 ]
Orchidpaw [ @Caramel ] your mentor is Hawthornmist [ @Willowfern ].
Fidgetpaw [ @Rxmulus ] your mentor will be Palebrook [ @FrostCat ]."

There was just one apprentice left, and this one Kestrelstar had taken an interest in. "Tumblepaw
[ @Papaya ] you will be completing your training under me." He gave a nod to the young tom before moving on.

There are also several apprentices in need of new mentors. I ask that the warriors I give them to do not slack on their duties to train. If you feel as though you are unfit to train, let me know." Kestrelstar leveled his gaze across the clearing before launching into it.

"Morningpaw [ @littlelove ] your new mentor will be Streampelt [ @~Fierceclaw~ ]. If he disappears again, let me know.
Littlepaw [ @feather lily ] your new mentor is Driftbreeze [ @liz ].
Aspenpaw [ @/feather lily ] your new mentor is Ryebelly [ @vcrdant ]
Frostpaw [ @FrostCat ] your new mentor is Wormbite [ @x ghostie ]
Redpaw [ @Topaztaill ] your new mentor is Rootgaze [ @Cian ]."

That was a lot of cats, and as Kestrelstar allowed a moment for them to find each other and the contratulations to arise, he glanced up at the sky. Quiet, not a hint of a storm. Rain would be nice, to soak into his pelt and wash this entire predicament away. The burning anger, festering like a wound that hadn't been washed. Momentarily, he closed his eyes, waiting for the noise below to die down before continuing.

The excitement that made his toes tingle as if he'd just dipped them in lightning only spiked as Kestrelstar finished speaking. His jaw dropped open, eyes wide, and he couldn't help but gape up at his new mentor.

He was going to be training under Kestrelstar?

He swiveled his head to meet Webpaw's eyes briefly, his own gaze sparkling in disbelief, before he turned back to Kestrelstar and attempted to fix his expression and posture into something more serious. "I won't disappoint you."

Flypaw padded up to Crowpaw to congratulate him and purred, "Congrats. I'm glad to have a new apprentice in the den. I can show you the den if you want if you haven't seen it already." @windtail

Wormbite's ears perked up in surprise at the sound of his name. Frostpaw, huh? He silently thanked the fact he wasn't getting a uh.. fresh apprentice?

He rose to his paws and approached the apprentice. It was an annoyance to pick out her scent amongst the others however. "We meet again, " He meowed, amusement in his voice as he leaned down to touch noses with her.

Bristletail smiled at the newly made apprentices. It was always great when there were new apprentices, less kits to annoy her. She yowled out their names with as much pride as though she was their mother. "Mistypaw! Birchpaw! Rainingpaw! Crowpaw! Lightpaw! Orchidpaw! Fidgetpaw! Tumblepaw!" It was a shock to be one of the only voices. Riverclan needed more apprentices, especially with the looming threat of Thunderclan. Hopefully, they'll be ready, she smiled grimly.

Reedpaw ran over, embarrassed at being so late yet cheering the names of the new apprentices. Yet, it seemed something else was going to happen. What now?
