His expression fell into a frown as he listened to the kit. "Oh, I'm sorry," Palekit said quietly, not sure how else to respond. He then brightened up once more and nodded dramatically. "Yeah! Momma's fightin' all the badgers and she's gonna take out den back!" The marbled kit squeaked and hopped around on his toes excitedly, then forced himself to settle down. "So," Palekit began, unsure of how to go on.

Honeykit looked down to hide their expression. That means she's already dead...Honeykit looked back up at Palekit, wondering if they should tell him what actually happened.
But he chose not to. "That might take many, many seasons before she comes to get you. "
