Her voice hurt too much to scream anymore. Her heart was still out of sync, beating well over the maximum pulse for a program her age. Her fingers derezzed, but they regenerated a second later. Voxels fell from her body like white-hot, melting metal. Her forearms were becoming transparent from the stress they were under.

She began to see sparks.

The power in the building started to flicker from over usage.
Sooner, or later the power went out. The plate turned back upright and the clamps unclamped her. The lasers went back to the wall, and the coils went back into the ground. Skye would fall on the floor from the plate being in the upright position.

Chris got to the spot where he last saw Skye. "S-Skye?! Where are you?" Chris yelled out her name. There was only one explanation. Pavel had taken her. And Chris would get her back. "I'm going after the program. " Chris sped off, leaving Mara and Zed in the dust. Chris knew where Skye would be.

"I'll race ya," Mara smirked, revving the engine of her lightbike. Zed rezzed his helmet over his face in response.

"You're on, Mara."

The two sped off, trails of ice blue and electric green light left behind for a split second as they followed the firewall program.

Skye was motionless, her heart still hammering at her ribs, her breathing still sounding like the brakes on an ENCOM 786, and her circuitry fizzling out, only to come right back on again.

Chris folded up his bike, and kicked down the door to the lab. Pavel was right behind him. "Come back so soon, program?" He placed a small circled object on Chris before he had a chance to react. Chris yelled in pain before hitting the ground. He was unable to move at all. Pavel walked over to Skye. "Tsk, tsk, tsk. Seems like I ran out of power. Guess we will try again." Pavel dragged Skye away from the plate, and put her against the wall. He pulled Chris, or dragged Chris to the plate Skye was previously on. Pavel clamped him on the plate. He began the same thing he did to Skye. First he had to reroute the power. Then he could derezz this program. Something Skye couldn't do.
