Mintleaf sat around. Oh, BOY! apprentices. He didn't know Whiskerkit or Streamkit very well, but he knew either of them would be better then stay-up-all-night Flickerpaw, and every time Flickerpaw screwed up, it was his responsibility. He would be fine having a warrior thats seven moons old in the clan if it meant getting a different apprentice.

Flickerpaw's posture straightened at the arrival of her mentor, Mintleaf, to this mess of a gathering. "Greetings, mentor," she said—tone professional and alert as always. The apprentice acted nothing but mature in the presence of the experienced warrior; she kept her fur groomed, her tail in a respectful position, her eyes trained on his expression to catch each and every minute change of his mood. Today he appeared... tired? Annoyed? Flickerpaw's ears snapped in Mintleaf's direction, her focus zeroing in on him like a hawk trained on her prey. Surely her mentor couldn't be annoyed with her—the dark she-cat was the best, most dedicated protege that anyone could ask for. Which other apprentice in RiverClan was serious enough about their training to wake their mentor up at the crack of dawn to train? Which other apprentice constantly asked questions in a quest to improve their knowledge?
"Cloverpaw is being obnoxious, no surprise... tensions are running high, but—" Flickerpaw's quick summary of the meeting dropped short when their new leader—not Sparrowstar, but Skystar—announced his new title. The she-cat's tail fluffed in surprise. What could've prompted this? And... what did he mean, Kestrelstar wasn't there in StarClan? Unease prickled along Flicker's spine.
When Wolfsong began shouting their leader's name into the clearing, Flickerpaw attempted to erase her confusion to join her voice to the fray. "Skystar! Welcome home!"
She couldn't say that her heart was in it... but Flickerpaw knew how to pretend. Wearing a mask was an important skill for any warrior: the ability to conceal one's true feelings. And speaking of masks...
When her gaze slid back to Mintleaf, she wasn't sure what to make of the tightness sewn over his brow. Did he not think that the kits were ready to become apprentices? Granted, Flicker didn't think either of them were as prepared as SHE was when she became an apprentice... but this was Skystar's choice. "I'd be happy to show them around the apprentice's den," she piped up to her mentor, almost aggressive in the way she volunteered herself. "I can help make sure they stay in line, unlike certain apprentices..." Disdain laced her words as she sent a quick glare to Birdpaw and Cloverpaw. Sitting all cute together. All peaceful and sweet. Gross. "What do you think, Mintleaf?"
@xathhow ironic, he thought to himself. At least it was something to keep the apprentice busy for a moment, maybe it not be at the moment "Yes, you do that. Keep the rascal from screwing up again" he said. Probably one of the worst apprentices he had ever seen. Okay, maybe he was exaggerating a little bit, but who cares? out of all the cats in the whole of the clan of river he got woken up right before dawn and got asked countless irrelevant questions. He was too tired to fully comprehend the meeting. All he could take from it was the fact that Kestrelstar never went to Starclan, and he couldn't fully take on what that meant.

Despite the solemn commotion that flittered among his clanmates, Whiskerkit sat with his chest puffed out - a proper stance for a tom preparing for his apprentice ceremony, he assumed. He practically had to keep himself from bouncing like an idiot as he made his way up to the Streamstone as the new leader - Skystar, what a change! - called him and another kit forward.
The road to recovery was long and tedious. The fiery apprentice, Sunpaw, gave a sigh of relief when his brother called for a clan meeting; left as a deputy and came back as a leader. Sparrowstar, it had quite a nice ring to it.
What didn't have a nice ring of thought was the idea that Kestrelstar did not go to Starclan. It troubled the tom to think that his former mentor and leader did not go to a place he deserved. But maybe it took a few days for the soul to transfer to a new realm? Sunpaw did not want to toy with the terrible thought for longer than he had to. Instead, he gave his focus to his brother's new position and accomplishment.
Skystar, huh Sparrowstar sounded better in Sunpaw's opinon. Although, why did Starclan give his brother the name Sky? It didn't make sense.

The earsplitting yowl of Cloverpaw snapped Softstep's thoughts back to reality as they let their green gaze flickered over to the apprentice. It was absurd how much one cat could fail as a parent to not teach that young cat some kind of manners. The cream warrior gave a quiet huff and let their gaze follow Flintstrike as he walked up to
his apprentice, had a few words with her and then padded off.
They could see the tension in Flintstrike's shoulders, and annoyance the made his tail twitch. Somethings that Softstep could fix in the gray warrior. The cat rose to their paws and swiftly made their way towards Flintstrike, a glimmer of concern in their eyes.
"You seem annoyed, darling. You need a friend?"
[ @/lavende ]
Flintstrike gave off a small grunt as someone approached him. This was exactly what he'd been trying to avoid - communication. His piercing brown stare landed on Softstep. He raised his eyebrows at the warrior, even more so when they asked him if he needed a friend. "I don't normally need friends."
The words sounded normal on his tongue, not harsh or anything. Flintstrike was used to saying such things. He smiled a little as Sparrowskip - no, Skystar, apparently - voiced Cloverpaw's punishment. That should do the little troublemaker some good.
With a low sigh, Flintstrike turned his attention back to Softstep, giving the feline a small nod. "I appreciate your concern-" No, he did not "- but isn't it normal to be annoyed when your apprentice keeps on yowling her head off at every clan meeting? Cloverpaw is a pain and I'm glad she received a punishment." Great. You seriously just got yourself into a conversation.
Sitting in-between her beloved adopted mama and best apprentice friend, the small fluffy molly had been drifting off into her own thoughts when the clan leader had announced two new kittens would be named apprentices. Wait… what? The name of the kits made her sit up and come back to reality. Whiskerkit? But… she thought… Cloudpaw turned her head to see none other than the familiar pelt of one of her blood littermates stepping forward. His chest was puffed out and looking quite proud of himself. Yep, that was definitely her brother. At that moment, the Riverclan apprentice didn’t know what to do. Had he been here this whole time? Were her fears coming true? Had her littermates just been avoiding her? Questions flooded her brain, but she kept silent, her ears drooping slightly. Cloudpaw turned away from the sight and buried her face into Moonfrost’s side. Her anxiety was getting bad again and she didn’t want to cry at another Riverclan meeting. Everything was fine. The black-and-white shecat should be happy to see one of her family members alive. So why did her chest hurt? Why did she feel so terrible inside? It confused her and even scared her a little bit. Whatever. It’s fine. Everything is fine. Nothing is wrong. Just keep it together. You’re not alone.
Blizzardsky flicked his tail, he didn't mind doing patrols. And the idea of new apprentices excited him, perhaps he'd finally get to mentor one. Kestrelstar didn't trust him with an apprentice, but maybe Skystar would. Since he was named after him.

Streamkit's fur puffs up and he moves toward Skystar, the larger cat slightly intimidating. He doesn't tremble, because he doesn't want the leader to deem him as weak and exile him. He couldn't handle that, not now.
The death of Kestrelstar has shaken the small tom, his eyes had become slightly duller and he really, really believes he should try and support Skystar.

Dimshard glances at the small kit, purring softly. He likes the kitten and hopes he'll become the mentor to him. But if not... He will train him but won't complain.

Ravenclaw watches their brother from across the clearing. It pains them that Coralsplash isn't by their side often enough, but they had promised themself not to bother their younger brother unless he wanted them to.
Ravenclaw is saddened that the kit is growing up so quickly, but they are glad that he seems happy to be an apprentice. Hopefully he gets a decent cat to train him, not one of those power hungry scoundrels. 'Streamkit deserves a cat who he can trust.' They think to themself.
