She stalked a frog watching closely as it hopped through the marsh. When she was within striking distance she crouched ready to pounce, completely focused. She leapt as she had many times. The frog, however, noticed her and made of leap of its own, away from her. She raced after it as it, but soon lost its trail as it dived away.
“Fox dung!” She flicked her tail irritated and embarrassed. At least no cat saw, she thought to herself.

Let me try.” She said, parting her jaws to taste the air. “Thrush...I also smell a frog and some lizards, but we should focus on the foremost of the three. She enjoyed doing this...It was freeing, to hunt with a partner. However, her eyesight keen, she noticed Elm was a little shaky...nervous, even. She herself did not know what to do about this situation. Going back to when it all started, Whisper was perfectly content. She had spent moons ignoring everybody, regardless of age or gender. One could say romance and kits were so low on her list they were placed at the bottom of the Gorge. It all changed when she met Elm...they got to talking and the rest, as far as she is concerned, is inappropriate to talk about, even to herself. She awoke from her little space-out and shot towards the prey at top speed, trying to make up for her embarrassing error.

Elmshadow watched the she-cat silently, critically. She seemed distracted, or was that all in his head? Did he even care? He couldn't wrap his mind around why everything seemed so much more complicated than it had moons prior. Before Goldenstep he wouldn't think twice about a third litter of kits from a third queen; rather, he wouldn't just not think twice, he'd be proud. This was what he wanted, right? If Goldenstep had managed to have a litter of five she-kits then she couldn't give him what he wanted. But then why was there something holding him back. He suddenly felt uncomfortable being out alone with Whisperwing.

Elmshadow stood from where he waited on Whisperwing. "Our kits will make skilled hunters," he purred lowly. "We should start heading back to camp. We can hunt along the way."

Without waiting for Whisperwing, he turned and walked leisurely through the forest, picking up his freshkill as he passed it. He soon caught the scent of a toad. Depositing his mouse beside a tree root, he crouched down and stalked quickly along the ground. He spotted the bulky amphibian bunched within itself among a pile of mucky leaves in a spotlight of sun. He gathered his energy into his hind quarters and sprang, quickly dispatching it. It was rather chilly for most cold-blooded prey to be out but apparently not all. The rush of the hunt taking his mind back to something simple and comprehendible made him feel just a bit lighter, like his old self. As he gathered his mouse and toad he looked at Whisperwing and smiled.

She noticed, Elmshadow chided himself stoically, holding his straight face as he thought through his options. He smiled but let his face fall just slight. "I'm not shaken, dear, no need to worry. How could anything possibly be wrong? I'm only tired. It's been a long day and I want to make sure I turn in at a decent enough time to be of use tomorrow."

He wasn't particularly in a rush to get back to camp but at least facing that direction calmed some of his nerves. He'd try to slow his pace some more to satiate Whisperwing. She was already having his kits, he wasn't doing anything by being out hunting with her.

A small half smile split one side of Elmshadow's face. He shrugged and jumped into a race across the ground, trailing after Whisperwing's tail bobbing through the trees. He enjoyed the crisp wind on his face and the blur of brown and green rushing past him. As he pulled up beside her he glanced over at her. Everything will work itself out, it always does.

"Thanks for coming out, anyway! I haven't had this much fun in days! It's going to be a couple of days before I am crippled in the nursery, so maybe we can do this again? Would that be possible? I love when we do this." she said with a grin.

Swirlpaw Stood on his back legs sniffed at the air "rabbit?" He said quietly.

(Never been on a patrol and Swirlpaw doesn't have much training XD)
