Greystorm was laying in a nest of fresh moss near the back of the Riverclan nursery. she was two days away from her due date. she licked her belly quietly whispering small I love yous, to her not yet born kit(s).

Oh StarClan. Sunnydew felt pain fill her heart as she heard Lionstorm's killings. She used to like that cat! She sighed and lowered her head to pray to StarClan. Please keep Buckstar and the others good in your paws, StarClan. We need you more than ever now.

She flattened her ears. What a mess this was! So many dying cats, a killer was on the loose now! She shuddered; this wasn't something any cat should take lightly!

Great StarClan, it was even worse than she'd assumed. Rabbitdream shut her eyes tight. That cat, Lionstorm - she was never a hateful cat, but she hoped he landed in the Dark Forest for his actions. Maybe there he'd pay for the grief he'd caused.

Flutterpaw stumbled back as the words tumbled from Eveningmist's mouth. Buckstar... murdered? She'd almost known, in a way... but the full reality of the fact hit her anew like a monster on the Thunderpath. A sob built in her throat and she shook her head in wordless grief to keep a kit-like wail from escaping her mouth. Buckstar couldn't be dead! Not the leader, so constant and calm, that had carried her Clan ever since she was a kit. Not the leader who had stood up so bravely for justice. Not Buckstar! Flutterpaw's ears drooped like wilted roses and her vision swam as she stared at her paws. She wasn't ready for her Clan to change like this. She wasn't ready for an Eveningstar- she was sure he would make a brilliant leader but... he was meant to be deputy. In the smoky confusion of her sorrow, she searched for a cat to blame.

RiverClan.

Emerging from the ash-cloud of despair her blue eyes smoldered with hatred. That mange-pelted group of rogues had stolen her leader, her Clanmates, her security. "RiverClan will pay for this," she choked out, digging her claws into the soil.

Robinwhisker listened to Eveningmist with her head held low. Lionstorm had taken so much from them. And for what? Dogspirit, Applepaw, and Rainywhisker were all dead. She couldn't even kill the vile Riverclan cat when she had the chance...

a big, tired yawn came from the kitten as he listened. attack..attack...he had heard the attack and remembered peaking out of the nursery, then everything was a blur from there, but he distinctly remembered crying and hurrying to curl up near his siblings again. (why had he been crying? he couldn't remember.)

the more rainykit listened to the news, the more he felt his chest tighten, the more he felt his heart drop and a lump form in the back of his throat and his eyes widen. buckstar, applepaw, rainywhisker, dogspirit-- dead? (gone.) he didn't know what death was, this was one of the first times he had heard of it, but he knew it was a terrible thing.

his mother, dead? the grey kit looked around quickly, desperately searching for his siblings. where were they? were they still in the nursery? (he didn't want to hear this news alone. he should've stayed in the nursery and curled up and tried to sleep like he usually did. but he didn't.) his mom. (dead.) she would come back right? maybe they got it wrong and she was sleeping.

but the more rainykit looked at the cats around him, he started to think they got it right. it suddenly became hard to breathe, the tiny kits body working hard just to let him inhale. big hot tears filled his eyes and he let out a loud wail of agony.

he should've stayed in the nursery.

Larkstorm padded out of her den, breathing in. Perhaps she would go on a solo patrol, or go hunting. Yeah, that sounded nice.
