The golden tom released a drawn out sigh. He technically, according to his rank, wasn't supposed to be outside of camp without supervision, either. However, the abyssinian was undoubtedly more qualified than two kittens if those were the only two options. "Fine," Lionpaw relented. "We can get your mice. Where is it?" He observed Flutterkit for a moment, thinking something through. "If you're tired, I could either carry you by the scruff, or you could hop onto my back and hang on. Tawnykit, how are you?" he asked, looking towards the other she-kit. Lionpaw didn't want any exhausted kittens slowing them down.

"Don't you have a mate who does that for you?" Fireleaf tilted his head, this cat seemed to be lying to him. But, she could be telling the truth. He didn't know to believe her or not.

"They're over by that stump." Flutterkit padded a little ways past her companions and began to scrabble around the fallen tree, large ears perked. "We covered them in fallen leaves. They should be right around... there. Got them!" She emerged with two mice, her mouth stuffed full from trying to hold them both. Lightly, she dropped the fatter one and looked apologetically at Tawnykit. "Can you carry yours?"

" thanks," Blueface mewed. blueface stared into Meadowvalley's green gaze and found peace there. as Meadowvalley stared out across the river blueface looked too. it was a pretty setting.
"me too," he mewed after Meadowvalley had spoken. he felt Meadowvalley's gaze on him and slid his eyes away from the river. he softly nuzzled her.

The attention span of a kitten wasn't very long, Lionpaw understood. That knowledge did not lessen his irritation after they ignored his last comment, however. "Two kittens, two mice," he muttered to himself. "That's not a bad bounty for an illegal hunting trip."

Then louder, directed towards the kittens, the apprentice repeated, "Can both of you still run? We still have a long way to go before we reach camp; Flutterkit, I saw how tired you were. I can only carry one of you; the other can keep going on paw or get onto by back. You two can switch periodically if you want, but I'm not going to have a tired kit slowing all three of us down."

Guiltily, Flutterkit nodded. "OK. I'll get on your back. " The tired ginger she-kit scrabbled, finally managing to mount Lionpaw. It's so much higher from up here! Already, her spirits were beginning to revive again, and she thumped Lionpaw with her tail. "Lead the way!"
