when rookfire woke up he was briefly disoriented, unsure where in stars name he was until he figured out he had, at some point, made his way onto the top of the medicine den, taking the place between the branches lostspark had, moons prior, slept at. he was covered in dew and cold, but the sun was already peeking over the horizon and cats were coming out of the dens so he had to be quick if he wanted some alone time of pacing in the bit of shadowclan territory right by the entrance.
by the time he returned and patrols et cetera had been sent out and returned to camp, the sun was high in the sky, everything had dried off and was warming up like nature was given a last opportunity of sunshine before leafbare would take a firm grip and shroud everything in darkness for the next few moons. rookfire hadnt really planned to sit around drying herbs again but there were some he knew to be usable even after drying to he took it upon himself to preserve them. lavender, already relatively dry and usable for a long time, was todays victim. they had uh,, five and three so he didnt even have to walk more than once and the large flat rock he had pushed in front of the medicine den last time was still around and already warmed up. plants spread out on the light grey rock, rookfire tucked his paws beneath his body, folding himself up to rest next to the rock in the sun, eyes half closed and the warmth burning down on his dark pelt. his faint tabby pattern, often hidden by dim lighting or movement, would be visible for once, shining dark in the warm light.

Talking with that warrior had completely messed up his mood, but his short time with Adderkit had been... Pleasant. He liked it. And that was a lot coming from him because he would never "like" something. Or someone. Not anymore. Not anymore. Not after that. Not anymore. Nope. Not anymore.
The apprentice blinked himself out of his thoughts, focusing at the real world just in time to see Rookfire... Again. Just how many times were they going to cross paths? Well, technically Rookfire hadn't noticed him. Or at least he didn't think so. And they really haven't spoken. And not to mention, Rookfire was the Medicine Cat Apprentice. Of course he'd see him around all the time. That's a... Popular cat thing. Hm. "Popular cat thing". Silentpaw scoffed to himself. What a thing to think. Well, he wasn't planning on talking with the medic any time soon.
He... Probably should have thought it earlier. The tabby tortoiseshell apprentice was already subconsciously walking up to the older feline, his steps slow and hesitant. It wasn't like he needed anything from Rookfire he was just... Lonely bored and figured he'd... Attempt to talk to someone. It had been a while since he'd last had a proper conversation with someone. And he wanted to keep it that way.
As Silentpaw approached Rookfire, he gave a silent nod and a flick of an ear, hoping the dark-furred cat noticed. Stars, it would be so awkward if he didn't. Mght as well turn around and leave now.

rookfires tail was tapping the ground repeatedly where it rested close to his body, paws tucked beneath him sort of like a brooding chicken or, to stop using weird metaphors, like every other cat sporting a lovely loaf. he had nothing to do, nothing he wanted to do at least, so he had resorted to laying around, trying to keep his paws hidden from the cool air out in the clearing, and pass his time people- erm.. cat watching under the excuse to making sure everything went its orderly way.
to be completely honest, he had not been paying the most amount of attention to his surroundings, thoughts wandering while he felt safe enough to engage in such a activity until tiny claws sunk (or tried to anyway) into the flesh of his tail. the medicine cat apprentice flinched, yanking his tail away from the kit and (regrettably) was on all four paws before he could blind or properly realise what was happening. now standing, he towered over the kit that had disrupted his useless pondering and shivered slightly as a cold gust of wind whipped around his previously warm legs. "big hunter huh? jump on someone who wants ta' play next time yeah?" he addressed the kit, voice neutral and almost dragging with how little he wanted to care about this.

it appeared his threat of hawkpaw being unable to become and remain a warrior if she didnt take care of herself or let others take care of the things she couldnt handle herself had worked. the apprentice exhaled, finally letting the mask of smiles and no worries slip into a frown.
secondly, it didnt appear like she didnt want to get treated because she didnt like him or trust him which was good for one and also meant his mildly manipulative appeared to have worked very well. dont get me wrong, rook wasnt aware it had been manipulative way to phrase the offer, this particular manner or communication was just something he knew would work in getting the younger cat to give in or at the very least talk and made use of. "d'ya have any idea how it mightve happened? any past injuries?" the medic asked, voice neutral and angular head cocked to the side slightly in question. while he wished he had some more information on the apprentices history, he simply hadnt been around for long enough, especially not in a position where he could be worrying about other cats injuries, and besides, he thought it was valuable to let the 'patient' tell their own story. if only he could ensure every cat he met in a medical context was ready to cooperate and tell him what had happened without complaint or trying to avoid the truth. "'s okay, i didnt mean ta' worry ya. if ye try ta' tell me what ya know n cooperate im sure we can figure it out" he assured the apprentice, giving her a nudge with his tail in what he hoped to be a light-hearted, reassuring manner. mind briefly rushing through his own past to select something to tell hawkpaw and take some of the fear he assumed he had caused away. "ya know, i dont think most 'a shadowclan know this but 'm blind in my left eye..n got my shoulder broken but mossfreckle fixed it up n now its all good again. 's crazy how much we can fix without much issue huh?"

Hawkpaw was beginning to feel like it was okay to open up to Rookfire out of all cats, and she did not like it. But... It felt right. Who could she talk to about this, anyway? Duskpaw? Definitely not. In fact, she could not even think of any more options. Oh well. Hawkpaw shrugged, tail twitching behind her. She was... Quite surprised, honestly to hear that Rookfire was half-blind. And the fact that not much of ShadowClan knew it... It made her feel... Somewhat special.
"Well, uhhh-" How could she explain this without making it sound like she was absolutely beaten to pulp by the hawk??? "When I was, y'know, gone, I came across a hawk." That was... A half-lie. The hawk had spotted her, not her. She hadn't known until it had dug its claws into her. "I wasn't hurt that bad, y'know? But I managed to fight it off! That's a good thing, right?" She let out a little laugh, puffing out her chest. Yep yep, keep going. This story sounds much more appealing anyway.
"That's really it." She paused to look at Rookfire, smiling, then lapped at her choulder and chest. Rather aggressively.

At the offer for a walk, Mudslide didn't react, mostly because something like that probably wouldn't happen unless she took Roachflare, herself, and Rookfire with her. Something she definitely didn't want to do. Then the thought of her apprentice came to her, and she perked up. Mosquitopaw. She could drag him along maybe, then they might be able to finish their tour and she'd also be able to hang out with Roachflare with no disruptions other than the occasional question from her apprentice, which she didn't mind. She'd have to arrange something... Rookfire was basically giving her permission, right? Okay then it was settled.
After the medicine cat apprentice said his last string of words, icy eyes darted up to look at him for a moment, even though she hated it. "Nothing stays dead." She replied simply, as though her words were fact, because in her life, they were. Her sister wasn't dead, that she was mostly confident in. She could feel her warm pelt against hers occasionally, as though she were beside her, see her in the ghost of a dream with the faint scent of a river, her form wispy and altered, her presence known but never in reach. She was a clan away from, her, and yet it felt like she was still here. Her mother wasn't dead either. Her body had probably long rotted away somewhere, but the mental strain she put on Mudslide remained.
"Are you crying? Crying is weak. Are you laughing? Laughing is weak. You ruined me, I never wanted you." words spun 'round and 'round and 'round in her head, ringing through her ears. She knew her monster of a mother didn't care, that was shown in how she abandoned her. Father? He tried. But trying is never enough. He wasn't smart enough, he wasn't strong enough, he didn't care. Why would he? Nocat cared about her. And as much as she had thoroughly adopted the mindset that she was completely fine with that, it tore her up from the inside, like an awful awful parasite. Her family wasn't dead. They built her walls, walls made to shield her heart.
Nothing ever stays dead.
And if these cats believed in life beyond the stars, that should be obvious to them. Nothing truly went away for good, and Mudslide had to harden herself to adapt to the wasteful life Starclan handed to her. Y'know, maybe she'd like those spirits more if they bothered to throw her a bone. Which, they kinda did.
Mudslide recalled asking for an angel, the nicest one they had. She was desperate, and she was lonely. Shadowclan was daunting and scary. Cats were too close, too far, and she craved connection but was so scared of the vulnerability. They scent her Roachflare. Well, Roachkit or Roachpaw at the time, she couldn't really remember his exact age. She was dead set on making sure they never took him away from her. Not like Squeaks. Not like her suffocating home.
Mudslide blinked. How much time had passed...? As cold wind slapped at her, the new-leaf reflections left her, and so did their bittersweet warmth. The warrior tensed. She needed to leave.
mudslides reply to him attempting to assure her that the high rank and enforcer team were taking care of the issues theyve been having caught him off guard at first. 'nothing stays dead'?? what in stars name had mudslide seen in her life that would make her say something so...wrong. sure, cats could in rare cases call to their warrior ancestors to be given a second chance at life but that was nowhere near a reason to say nothing stayed dead.. "no idea what kinda experiences you've had but from what i know dead animals don' just raise ta' walk the earth again. 'specially not if theyve been eaten" rookfire replied with a small laugh, trying to imagine the mouse he had eaten earlier this day trying to claw its way back out of his stomach. or the badger he knew sleepysunrise had buried in the outskirts.. holdup that was actually kind of scary. trying to imagine mice and little critters coming back to life was amusing, considering the second death theyd have to suffer, but he would certainly not like to be faced with a used to be dead badger or something..
with a slight shake of his head, rookfire chased these thoughts away, focussing back on mudslide and trying to keep the conversation going. "sooo, d'ya still have family 'round? 've never seen ye with anyone besides roach" rookfire asked, entirely unaware that that was probably not something to just ask a cat he barely knew and also overlooking the way mudslide tensed. rook was a smart guy, he might even say so himself, but if he was in his head about something it was unlikely (to say the least) that he would notice any minor shifts in a cats mood. he was far better at spotting pain and picking up on the early wisps of sickly sweet illness than expressions anyway.

Mistpaw of shadowclan
6 moons old
◖──────☛ he smiled, knowing he did a good job, he dropped into a crouch and meowed "alright" no claws...a pity, he leaped, he knows this is a trained warrior, so he leaps and makes it look like he missed, landing beside bloomingblaze and turning around quickly to body slam his mentor, reaching his paws out to wrap around bloomingblaze's neck. (he can miss if you want him too, since he is still a apprentice.) ☚──────◗
Bloomingblaze was a little surprised at the tactic, it was a smart one.
Going to the side first instead of straight up just jumping from the front.
Good way to disorient the enemy.
She, being a large cat, can be difficult to knock over, but Mistpaw had definitely made her lose her balance and he was still managing to hang on.
"Good job!" She said enthusiastically, not bothering to shake him off just yet "It'll get easier as ya' get bigger, for now there are some other ways t' knock over an opponent."
