Ember sulked through the trees, paws silent as he traversed through the rough, wet grass. He was a little close to the Twolegplace - and he'd recently developed a bit of a fear of twolegs. Carefully, the black and orange tomcat leaped into a tree, climbing slowly until he reached a low branch that overhung a fence.

He could see a tabby cat lounging in the neat-cut grass, eyes closed for a nap in the sunshine. Ember was just about to leave, not wanting to be noticed, but it at that moment there was a snap! and the branch he was balanced on crashed into the kittypet's yard.

Ember gasped, twisting midair, landing on his paws and feeling a little jolt run up his legs. He stared wide-eyed at the kittypet, fur on end.

Roxy was sleeping peacefully, when she heard a snap and a thud. She jumped up and faced the new cat who crashed into her yard. It was a black and orange cat. He seemed scared. She gave a smile, and flicked her tail. "Greetings. I wasn't expecting a visitor from sky. My name is Roxy. Who are you?"

Ember didn't answer. He lashed his tail, claws unsheathed. At this point, he'd learned not to trust anybody. He stared at the kittypet, who introduced herself as Roxy. Roxy? What kind of name was that? Ember frowned.

Kittypets were weird.

"I'm... fine," he said roughly, muscles tensing. Kittypets were so odd. They had to know every little thing about you, even if you'd just met. Loners, meanwhile, were fine with a simpler life: Live alone, and if somebody enters your territory, you fight them.

There were no rules, outside of the twolegplace.

"I'm fine," Ember said again, clearer, this time.

"I was... walking. And then I sat in a tree... and the branch broke."

He tried to say as little as possible. Ember believed that there was no point in tons of fancy-word-fluff - why use a hundred words when ten would work just fine?
