Zen glanced up at the fox. She had felt something from it momentarily, a short burst of... some emotion, but it cut off too quickly for her to tell. Its tail drooped as it began to pad away. Oh no, you don't, she thought as she hit it with a burst of her power, rejuvenating its strength with the strange dark magic. The creature’s “fur” stood on end at the power surge, and ended up having to expulse some of it through glowing a bit brighter for a moment from being overcharged. It sat down, staring at the ground, but in a more sentient way. It looked... sad. It’s ears drooped, and it’s tail was loosely curled around it’s legs. It cut off connection with Zen.

Marry? Whoa, whoa, whoa, commitment! Scary! But... Peya smelled opportunity. Its aroma was spicy-- almost dangerous-- but with a hint of floury sweetness and a touch of cheese.

Or maybe that was just the taquitos that the vendor next to them was selling.


"Okay," Peya said carefully, choosing his words. "I was hired for a job by an anonymous employer. Nothing outside my usual line of work." All true. That said, there wasn't much he hadn't done when his 'line of work' was bounty hunting. "I'm supposed to... retrieve a product from a nearby location. Then ship it off to my boss" Ah. Yes. Retrieve a product. Aka, take out the local magistrate and cart his body to a vague address in the middle of the continent to be made a public example out of.

What wasn't to like? He was the ultimate ladies' man.

He could tell by Sage's stare something was off. "Too vague?" he gulped.

"No!" Zen cursed as the fox cut her link with it. She'd pushed too hard. Dang you and your impulsiveness, Zen. Something was very wrong. What had she done to trigger the fox?

Peya's mouth fell open.

And then the rest of him did as well. That is, fell. Peya fainted.

Sage laughed as she grabbed a cucumber (Yep. Fainting trick) She snapped it near his nose and stood up.

Peya awoke with a start. "Y-y-you're my sister?" He stuttered. Darn. Another beautiful girl down the drain. Not to mention, he had a sister. He hadn't seen any family of his for years. And the last time he had, his father had been selling him into slavery, too terrified of his... powers to be near him.

He observed her with new eyes. He could see the similarities now. Even their smiles were similar.

But boy, oh boy, were their powers different.

He averted his eyes. He didn't doubt her sincerity. But it probably wasn't a good idea for them to stick together. In fact, now, his deepest desire was to get away from her.

"You don't know me," he said quietly, standing up. "I'm not a good person. You're probably better off without me."


And with that, he turned and melted into the passing crowd.
