The Creepy Town (Rp)

Orion opened the folders cautiously. A small, black box lay on the next page. His face fell. "It's blank--" He began, but the next second the box began to light up and grow colorful until it morphed into a small movie screen on the paper. Orion, full of wonderment, reached out to poke it. The second he did, he was whisked away into the scene, and suddenly he stood in his first home: amid a field of sugarcane on a Louisianna plantation.

"Guys?" He shouted, but no one answered. He shifted a few canes of sugar, his hands familiar with the rough texture and sticky-sweet smell. He could remember his childhood, harvesting sugarcane and melons on their farm, laughing as a younger Zen made a floppy leaf into a hat for three-year-old Ori.

Coming up the lane was his mother. Beautiful, dark skin, curly cinnamon hair, flashing dark eyes. Short, but confident. "Mom..." He whispered. She was striding hurriedly, pulling a younger Orion and Zen along behind her. He shut his eyes. He remembered this. He could hear what she said in his mind:
"Come on, children, we have to go. I'm sorry, Zen, I can't tell you why. Yes, of course, I'll see you again, Ori! Please, don't ask questions. It's for your own good." The figure on the road suddenly stopped and knelt, sucking the children into a tight embrace. "Remember that I love you. I love you so..." Orion winced as get recalled how her warm tears had slid down his neck. "...So much."

Suddenly he was transported to a different place-- a dark place. A stinking place. His senses automatically recoiled, and Orion gasped. Why was he here?

It was a basement with a basket of dirty laundry in one corner. Little Ori was being cuddled by a worried-looking Zen, who seemed to be around ten or eleven. Suddenly, there was pounding on the stairs. Instinctively Orion buried his head in his hands, blocking out the shouts and punches of the Bald Man as he came into the room.


Do it!

No, I won't! You can't!

It was Zen.

You know the consequences.

NO!

Orion gasped as he heard a sharp slap. "Please, get me out of here... please!"

The scene changed again. Zen and Ori, looking to be about a year older, were running with Peya at their side, the baying of boarhounds close behind them. Cursing, Zen scooped up her brother to increase their speed and didn't glance back when their pursuer shouted at them. "You'll pay for this! I'll find you! You'll pay!"


Scene after scene. Playing back Orion and Zephyr's entire time on the run. Their mom, hiding them from Bald Man. Bald Man's basement. Zen as a skeleton, pushing Ori into an alley even as a crowd with torches threw stones at her, slurring her as a witch. Bounty hunting with Peya. The encounter with The Traveler. Scene after scene after scene.

And then he was back in the echoey place. Through one eye he could see the real Zen crying next to his ghostly form, and through the other Hallow and Eve looking at him expectantly. He realized he was weeping. "I see," he said in a shaking voice, very quietly. "Can you take me back?" Orion gripped his arm with one hand. How could he ever have forgotten?

Zen sacrificed everything for him. Everything. She loved him, protected him, respected him. And he had run from her, every time.

He was so stupid.

"Of course." They said pulling him into the real world "You see now don't you?" Eve said gripping onto Orion's hand. Pulling it up she put a box in it. "Don't lose this. It will remind you of special things. It'll also give you good luck." Eve said letting go of his hand.

"Thank you," said Orion quietly.

Zen gasped as he reappeared, quickly wrapping him in a fierce hug. "What did they do to you?" She murmured, stroking his hair. "I'm fine, Zen, I'm fine," he said. Emotion clenched his heart. "Listen--"

"Don't talk." She held him at arms' length. "I just want you to know..." Her features softened. "I love you so..."

"So much." He finished her sentence, hugging her back. Never planning to let her go.

After a moment, her arms pulled him close too, and they stood like that, embracing, crying, found, for a very long time.

Hallow and Eve sat own looking around. "THe suns high in the sky. Agian." Eve mumbled stroking her hair.

The creature looked down when Zen and Orion were having a moment. It accidentally sent a short tone of... something. It was too short and the creature cut off from her too quickly to decipher it. It was clearly not a happy emotion. It turned away, and started padding off. It was almost thinking, but the pain in it’s headache was trying to pry it away with much pain.

Peya wandered into town with his group, hungry, tired, and slightly intimidated by his fellow travelers. Sage, Jeff, and several assorted animals walked with him, and while he enjoyed the safety numbers provided, he had to lose them before he completed his... errand.

Though it would be a shame to leave such a pretty girl behind. However grumpy.

"Listen, babycakes..." He began, putting on his best bad-boy pout. "It's been fun. Real fun. But I've got to be going now. I'll see you around," he smirked, slinking his arm around her shoulders as she glared at him. "Unless... you want a bit more of a deliberate meet-up?" He hinted, winking. His eyes flitted to the sun, high in the sky. He had to make this quick; he was running out of time. He waited for her response.

"Uh yeah no." She said slinking out "Esspecially si- Oh!!" she said turning to a racoon pulling on her dress slightly. "Yes Steam?" she asked the racoon as she looked at the Racoon. It chittered a bit as she looked up at Peya. "What are you doing?" she asked raising an eyebrow at him.

Zen glanced up at the fox. She had felt something from it momentarily, a short burst of... some emotion, but it cut off too quickly for her to tell. Its tail drooped as it began to pad away. Oh no, you don't, she thought as she hit it with a burst of her power, rejuvenating its strength with the strange dark magic. She was pretty sure if it padded off on its own again, it would only regress, lose the progress they'd fought so hard to gain. I'm not done with you yet.

Peya gulped. "Nothing!" He knew she was talking about his errand-- dirty little traitorous raccoons, couldn't keep a secret-- but he deliberately avoided the topic. "I'm just trying to pick up a hot girl." Maybe he shouldn't have said that. "What am I supposed to do, Beauty? Without you, I'm just a Beast." Oooh, that was a good one. He'd have to hold on to it.

The raccoon gave him a hard glare. He stuck his tongue out at it.

"Tell me. NOW!!" sh said picking the racoon up and petting it calmly. "There are worse. I need to know what your really doing. After all ya can't marry me." she said.
