Without missing a beat Finchpaw kicked his hindleg back, causing water to splash backwards, all over Rookpaw.

He looked over his shoulder in mocked horror.

“Ops”

He looked forwards again and let his body sink a little lower into the water. He had to pull his paws up to do a small paddle but the shallowness along with his inexperience in water made him look clumsy and rather stuck. Not that he noticed.

He turned and attempted a half swim/ half paw drag back towards Rookpaw.

“It’s not that hard,”he declared. Coming back to shore he gave himself a drying shake. “[B]Although I now see why Riverclan cats are so slow, they must lose brain cells floating around like that. Alright let’s see if you could do better.[B]” he challenged

Rookpaw's face scrunched up as water was shot into her face. It was a very obvious attack by Finchpaw. He seemed to be doing alright with the swimming. It had always sounded very peaceful to Rookpaw. Like...flying. She'd always wanted to fly. The spiky furred black cat gently submerged herself into the water. It felt oddly like home. She was uncertain to lift her paws off the ground once she reached shoulder depth. She did sink quite a bit but in her small water bounces she felt rather at peace. That is, until she carefully steadied herself again in the water and shot a paw up, aiming to splash it at Finchpaw.

He studied the way she was paddling wanting to be able to copy her fluidity. He found himself back on the water moving towards her, a plan forming in his mind to sneakily pounce on her, when instead Rookpaw sent a massive wave crashing into his face.

“Oi!” He shouted spitting water out. Narrowing his eyes did tried to do a jump which in turn sent a splash back towards Rookpaw.

The water fight had begun.

A playful and fiercely competitive smile spread across her face. Ever since childhood, Rookpaw had enjoyed any game that involved fighting. She couldn't really float as much as jump lightly. She did nowhere manage to rear up and splash her paws down into the water, now that her opponent was closer.

She hit him hard and Finchpaw was shoved down into the streambanks. He hissed as she tried forcing his face in the mud. Holding his face back with all his force he tried to think.

“Your lucky I’m sore from training” he growled as he tried to twist, hoping to switch their positions and throw Rookpaw into the mud instead. His paws started to slip however and he felt his face inch closer to the mud. In a last minute decision he decided to roll forward, kicking Rookpaw in the legs as he did.

“Take that your dirty furball!” He spat, breathing heavily as he tried to shake the mud out of his fur.

Finchpaw let the water hit him but he scooped up some mud in his paw and threw it right at Rookpaw in response. He was fuming and he could tell she loved it.

“Why in Starclan can you never get my name right, ” He said dryly. Giving his pelt another shake he padded back into the water to try to wash of the mud.

Letting the water float around him he sank to his shoulders, letting a rare moment of silence form around them.

“It’s actually quite nice” he huffed.
