Stormpaw fixed her gaze on a leaf in front of her. She crouched down even lower and narrowed her eyes. Then, she pounced. She had missed but the leaf fluttered in the air for a moment and in that moment, Stormpaw reached up with a forepaw and hooked a claw into the leaf. She looked up at her mentor, wondering if he had any tips. Honestly, she just wanted to try again. Stormpaw knew she could do it. And the dream wasn't bothering her as much anymore. So, Stormpaw guessed that another try-- or two-- and she could succeed.
Lightningstrike raised his eyebrow in amusement. "Normally, a piece of prey would not flutter away like that. Usually, there is only one chance. But hey, pretty good for a first chance." Lightningstrike's expression turned serious. "Try to float a little higher, so your pounce doesn't cause wind to blow the leaf away" Lightningstrike explained, "And when hunting normally, crouching super low makes you bounce higher, allowing prey to escape." Lightningstrike sighed. "Hurry and try again"

So he doesn't like me, Stormpaw thought. He just sighed. He probably has better things to do than teach a cat who's eight moons old how to catch a leaf. And how does a cat float? I guess I'll just have to try to float.
Stormpaw set down the leaf again and backed up. She got into the right stance and then pounced. She landed right on the leaf. Stormpaw got off of the leaf and hooked a claw on it. She couldn't believe that she had actually done it. But, Stormpaw wasn't going to act like a kit around her new mentor. So, she just looked at Lightningstrike.

Lightningstrike's expression brightnened. "Good job, though I don't think you can squish a piece of prey to death" He laughed. "I made the same mistake when I was an apprentice. Try not to bounce so high next time, or it might be off target" Lightningstrike instructed the apprentice

Stormpaw sighed and tried again, but she made the same mistake. She didn't bother looking up. Instead, she looked at her paws. But, that didn't help much. She was just a stupid apprentice. She'd always be an apprentice. She'd always squish prey to death. Stormpaw was starting to not like the training session. For the good news about it, she had learned more about herself and her future. For the bad news, she was horrible at hunting and would never change. Stormpaw glanced at Lightningstrike.

~Lightningstrike who is dissapointed~
"Um- next time stay farther away so you have space to jump. About two tail lengths away"(2 Feet away) Lightningstrike demonstrated the technique

Stormpaw watched him. It just didn't make sense to her. It was the easiest move and she didn't understand it. All her training had always been battle training. Plus some tree climbing lessons. Stormpaw felt useless.
Padding alongside his apprentice as they entered the thick of ThunderClan territory, Tawnybird kept one ear listening to her and the other alert for signs of danger. Things were peaceful within the borders, as he hadn’t heard reports of predators lately - he sincerely hoped that would stay the same in the reports that came back - but he knew to always be cautious when outside of camp walls. But the day was bright and beautiful, with only a few clouds dotting the sky. Birdsong hung low in the air, it’s sweet melodic tune adding to the bouncy paw steps that Sleetpaw took.
”That’s a good idea, Sleetpaw. Scout for any nuts or berries that might lure the woodland prey out of their burrows,” Tawnybird praised, giving her a nod as his amber eyes settled on her... tripping over a root. The tom’s whiskers twitched in amusement but he didn’t laugh, as to not embarrass her further. But it didn’t seem to phase the molly that much, as she laughed and pounced right back onto the root. ”If that was an attacking enemy, you would’ve defended ThunderClan bravely,” he purred, touching the tip of his tail to her shoulder as he came to stand near her.
Returning his attention to their surroundings, the senior warrior took a breath, motioning for Sweetpaw to do the same. ”Now... Concentrate, and tell me what you can smell,” he asked her, popping his eyes back open to watch for her response.
Bounding up to Tawnybird, Sweetpaw sat and swiped her tongue over her shoulder to smooth a small tuft of fur before she looked ahead. Opening her jaws, she breathed in deeply.
Her eyes narrowed in concentration, and she took one more breath before she replied. "Mouse. I think..vole, over there by those roots," She gestured with her tail at a tree's roots about six fox-lengths away. "Squirrel, and some...bird? I don't know which. Smells kind of like thrush, but it could be pigeon?" She glanced up at Tawnybird questioningly.
Stormpaw watched him. It just didn't make sense to her. It was the easiest move and she didn't understand it. All her training had always been battle training. Plus some tree climbing lessons. Stormpaw felt useless.
Shaking his head, Lightningstrike sighed quietly. "Make yourself lighter so you can jump easier. But not too light or you might jump too far. Try to hover over the ground."
Sorry I was really busy- I was on vacation

"Okay," Stormpaw meowed.
She did what Lightningstrike had showed her, and landed right in front of the leaf. But, she stumbled when she landed. If the leaf had been a real piece of prey, it would have run away before she could have caught it. Still, Stormpaw felt pretty happy with herself.

(It's okay. )
Beaming, Lightningstrike thought quietly, not murmering anything. "Hmmm... It was pretty good, but I think what made you stumble is your balence." He licked his dark gray-brown hair thoughtfully, then mewed, "Crouch again and I'll show you"
