Re: The Shadowledge
@ MooingPanda
Huh. Shrewstep certainly hadn't expected an apprentice, but the diversion was certainly welcome. It wasn't that he was bored, it was that he....needed something to focus on. Something to work on and put energy into, instead of sulking about camp thinking about cats past and cats present and maybe cats future. This Frostpaw was hopefully up for some work, because he had every intention of making him at least a decent warrior. And it seemed he would not be disappointed. We sure can! he mewed, a bit of a bright spark coming to his eyes and voice. Let's see how much you know about fighting, hmm? he added, before turning to make for the camp entrance. It might be a bit early, but he was up now and might as well make the most of it.

Re: The Shadowledge
@Papaya
i think i accidentally submitted beargrowl as a grey tabby when he's a brown cat - oops //
➸ beargrowl
all these new apprentices! that meadowpaw was one of the most incompetent he had seen - he almost wanted to go over there and shove her into the medicine den to get those ears of hers checked, maybe cuff her over the ears too. that silent little thing didn't even speak up when she was almost forgotten - did some of the kits here just want to never become an apprentice?
big nose twitching in annoyance, the large tom turned his attention back to the meeting, letting out a grunt once the news of him being assigned an apprentice reached his ears. whiskerpaw, whisperpaw, whatever the cats name was - one golden eye turned to look down at the apprentice. "of course I'm beargrowl, ya no-brain dummy." he said, low growl hid somewhere in his voice.
"now listen here, apprentice," beargrowl began with a puff of air. "I ain't gonna deal with any stupidity or some of those shenanigans that you younguns come up with. you got that?" the senior warrior told, looking whisperpaw up and down. he was pretty sure this kid was one of those returning apprentices. "and you best not be expecting me to be easy on you, boy. I ain't soft like some o' these cats 'round here - no slackin' on my watch."

Re: The Shadowledge
-Cotton'paw-
Although his stomach growled and his stubby legs ached, Cotton'Paw was determined to keep up. This was his chance to show he was the best apprentice Shadowclan had ever seen! But what would happen during this time period, was up to Star'clan to decide.

Re: The Shadowledge
// @finnzel
>Whisperpaw<The small smile shifted into a frown that furrowed his brow as Whisperpaw gazed up at the hulking tom. Great, he just had to end up with one of the grumpy ones. He couldn't really complain, he supposed - just had to be grateful that Dawnstar had allowed him back in and was setting him up with a training opportunity again. Besides, the grumps were usually the tough ones, so maybe this wouldn't be too bad after all.
He rolled his shoulders and forced another smile, this one simply placid and polite. "I'm not usually one for shenanigans, so you don't have to worry about that," he replied breezily. "And I certainly don't expect you to go easy on me - I'd be disappointed if you did, to be honest. That damn dog put me out for way too long, and I don't want to fall behind any more than I already have. I'm ready when you are." Though his expression was mild, there was a challenging light dancing in the scarred tom's eyes.

Re: The Shadowledge
"Eh-?" Maplepaw was jolted out of her haze of surprise at Frogfang words. He really wasn't going to waste any time in critiquing her, huh? She flushed with embarassment as she took a seat near the warrior. At least her training was in, uh... competent? Paws. She knew Frogfang was a hard worker, at least.
And at least he wanted to know a bit about her; That was more than she could ever say for 2/4 mentors she'd had so far. But he better not get the impression that he could order her around so easily!
"We're the same age." She huffed, shooting a look at the tom. "You better not have the idea that you can just order me around like I'm fresh out of the nursery." She was here to get her apprenticeship over with, not to be treated as a subordinate.

Re: The Shadowledge
// @/undertaker
Sparkpaw lingered to the sides of the gathered cats, ears perked and expression focused, a habit she fell into as of late. Soaking up every word. It was much easier to pay attention in these meetings since Wildfire disappeared...the puppy-dog of a cat who was more absent than minded, making her short-lived mentorship of Spark child's play. But anyway.
Details, details.
So! Deputy gone, Marshwolf promoted to bossy patrol assigner, and RiverClan getting testy with Dawnstar meant they were being eyed. Sparkpaw saw the strategy of this in some ways. Particularly if they waited for the ThunderClan - RiverClan conflict to climax...perhaps Shadowclan would be ready to swoop in and pick up their broken pieces like a vulture. Of course in order for this to work they couldn't be in pieces themselves after dealing with their bunny infestation. Sparkpaw didn't think there would be...too much of an issue there, remembering back to their skirmish on the moor. Spark still tasted the phantom scent of Ryecloud's blood.
(Speaking of the moors! Sparkpaw noticed Redshrike hacking once again. She severely doubted that dust was the culprit, simply because the she-cat remembered seeing him the day they carved out a ripe piece of WindClan's territory for themselves. Sickly then and sickly now. Interesting...something Spark would keep note of for later.)
There was a moment of rising intrigue in this clan meeting that enthralled Sparkpaw. I am and always have been ShadowClan's power, Dawnstar said. When the other clans look at us, they speak of me, do they not? They fear me, they challenge me, they threaten me. Icy shivers traveled up the Bengal's spine. It was intoxicating, the way she described it, reminded Sparkpaw of the WindClan warrior blinded by Grimhound. He dominated her. Overwhelmed her and all she could do was stare back at him, terrified and...admiring.
Beyond following in Talonstone's large pawprints? Sparkpaw vowed to use every ounce of her wits to achieve what Dawnstar and Grimhound possessed: sheer power. The mere notion seduced her mind more than any charismatic tongue ever could.
And then? The main culminating event that shook Sparkpaw to her core. While waiting for reassignments the bengal expected another idiot warrior, someone she could manipulate, someone boring - but no. As if lurking darkness heard the song of her ambition, when Sparkpaw looked at Dawnstar, she found herself staring into the eyes of her new mentor.
The shock of it melted quickly enough - fizziness of nervous anticipation there for a second then gone. A smirk drew itself over Sparkpaw's lips. Are you proud of me, mentor mine? Talonstone was her true mentor, would always be, but he was also very much gone. Dawnstar would supply the challenge Spark had been missing in her life; time to start flirting with disaster. Spark's nightmare-giver, her most pure form of inspiration.

Re: The Shadowledge
Embershadow touched noses with his new apprentice. "We'll get into training right away tomorrow," he decided, getting right to the point. "I can evaluate how far you've come then." He knew Sparrowpaw wasn't a new apprentice, which was nice. Having to start from scratch and teaching one for all six moons was a task he wasn't sure he could handle. This way, he could just brush up on some of the things Sparrowpaw was struggling with.

Re: The Shadowledge
@ windtail
Snakes, she had an apprentice? Falconfeather glared daggers at Dawnstar before turning back to the clearing. This was what happened when she annoyed Dawnstar. She ended up with a stupid apprentice. Perfect. The small tabby stared as other apprentices made there way to their mentors. She wasn't going to look for this 'Mosspaw.' Anyone she couldn't remember the name of didn't deserve to be found. It was only then, standing alone in the dim, bustling light, gazing angrily over the other cats, that her apprentice found her. "Hello, Mosspaw. I didn't ask for an apprentice, so don't expect me to be nice." Though, that was what she was doing. Her tone had softened from what it was before and the fury in her eyes had faded. Anyone who looked hard enough could see that she didn't mean her harsh words.

Re: The Shadowledge
@ Nixey
Juniperpaw grinned. Dawnstar had remembered! She didn't care so much about the other cats being apprenticed and what-not, but she had a mentor again! Finally. Now, who was Splotchleaf. As she thought about the name, he seemed to materialize in front of her. Oh, that was him walking over. Solemnly, she stepped froward and touched noses with her mentor before bounding backwards. "Oh Starclan, hi! What are we going to do first? I've seen the territory with Tigerfang before. But that's it. I've hunted a little too!" It probably wasn't good hunting, considering she was self taught, but every few tries she could catch something. Well, more like once a day she could.
