The white she-kit mews and curls up against Batsong, breathing softly as she immediately falls asleep.

Elmshadow's eyebrows rose and fell dismissively. "I don't know if it means much coming from me as I'm not sure I have much vested interest in the future of these she-kits," he looked away. "But I do trust that you'll raise them well. Maybe it'll be a benefit that they'll get the fatherly figure within their motherly figure." He shrugged. "Prove me wrong, I guess."

Batsong looks at him.
"You're right. It doesn't mean much when it was already clear. I just hope they don't grow to resent you. If they die trying to gain your pride, I'll make sure to give you an earful." He looks at the tom again.
"I'm not sure why you trust me of all cats here. I thought you shouldn't trust those you hated?"

With any luck, they won't grow to resent me. Since I'll be just another warrior in their clan.

"Well, I'd hope they wouldn't have thoughts planted in their head that they should be trying to gain my pride," he meowed pointedly. He shrugged. "I don't hate you and I wouldn't necessarily trust my own safety to you. But I believe I can trust you to raise these kits.
You seem to care about them so I believe you'll do what's best, regardless of who their father is."

Batsong looks at him and sighs, nodding.
"I know they'll try their best to make you proud of them... It's not easy having a father that doesn't love you or care for you. You know, even if you are rude and a pain to try and logic with, I respect you and with battle coming up, I hope you will trust me then to help you. Not every cat is as strong as they say, everyone has a weakness." He looks up at him and cracks a small, sad smile. "I must admit, I admire you a tad bit. I envy you a bit. Now, I don't want to waste your time. Anything else you need?"

Elmshadow's nose twitched. He let the silence hang for a heartbeat. "No, I'll let you all get some sleep." He turned to slip out of the nursery. At the entrance he looked over his shoulder and meowed, "And Batsong? Thank you."

Then he hurried out. Goldenstep would likely be wondering where he was by now, possibly worried, not that that mattered... A small twinge struck within his belly and radiated through his chest...guilt? He paused to shake himself roughly, loosening the feelings inside of him and shedding the day's problems, then continued confidently across the camp to slip into the warrior's den.
