Mountainclan (Not for Beginners!)

Kitepaw paced around their temporary camp. 'I wish we could leave and let this all be behind us. No more rain, no more death, no more worries. I want to be a kit again, when I could spend all day playing with bundles of moss," she thought. 'No, if it rains or if someone dies, then they'll need a strong warrior, and that'll be me!'

But, of course, she had to leave this cave alive first.

Kinkpaw nodded and was about to get prey for himself when Kestrelpaw mewed agian. "Yes Kestrelpaw?" He mewed sarcastically before turning around and staring at the hole. He was slightly annoyed but Kestrelpaw wasn't the problem. It was Dapplesnow.

Grayear only flicked his curled ear before nodding to Ivorywhisker's comment. "Well lets get over there then and get some moss." He mewed padding towards the ferns tail whisking over the half dead grass.

"About how long until the sun is down?" She asked, eyeing the bats on the ceiling of the cave. They had to get out to hunt, didn’t they? If she could follow them, they could guide her out.

Kinkpaw tilted his head for a moment before answering her question. "Its almost sun down. The sun is only about a mouse length from reaching the ground. " Why would she want to know how long it was until the sun was down? The tom wasn't sure but there wasn't a real reason to wonder.

Good. Kestrelpaw looked back over at the hole. "There are bats down here! If I can follow the bats, and you can find where they escape at night, I can get out of here!"

Kinkpaw nodded before sitting down and rapping his calico tail around his paws. "I'll keep a look out to where they come out." He mewed eyes glazed with tiredness. Hopefully those bats leave soon...

"Thank you Kinkpaw!" Kestrelpaw mewed. She broke into a bout of coughing and crouched, trembling, when she was finished. Her chest and throat hurt. There was no source of warmth down in the caves at all. Even her siblings provided little more than a dull glow that only she could see. The ginger tabby apprentice waited, begging StarClan to send the sun down faster. Finally, after what seemed like forever, the bats began to stir. One by one, they unfurled their wings and began to flutter unevenly down a few tunnels. A majority of them headed down one small tunnel. "They're leaving, Kinkpaw. Keep an eye out!" Then she began the long trek after the small creatures.

All she brought was the ball of catmint and some water-soaked moss. Mudkit kept trying to run too far ahead, Hawkkit kept trying to catch the bats, and Sunkit just climbed all over Kestrelpaw. She padded on, only stopping once in a while to cough, or eat a little bit of catmint. At some times, the three StarClan kits disappeared and Kestrelpaw relied solely upon the sound the bats made. Finally, she couldn't hear them, and when Sunkit came back and her outline lit up the tunnels ahead of her, the bats were gone. She sighed and laid down to rest and wait for the next night.

Meanwhile, the bats began to filter out of a small cave in the side of a mountain, far from either of the camps. Their chittering, black forms filled the air, blocking the stars momentarily as they flitted to and fro, spreading out amongst the diamond-hewn sky.

Kinkpaw lifted his ears at the announcement and it took awhile but he finally saw bats filter out of somewhere distant. I hope she doesn't think I'm going to track that far just to find a cave! The tom sighed before starting to pad wearily in the direction the bats were coming from.

Kestrelpaw fell asleep, her ragged breaths filling the cavern. Her small body shivered in the pressing cold of the cavern. Meanwhile the bats finished flying put of the cave and dissapeared into the night sky.

Kinkpaw cursed under his breath as the bats disappeared into the night sky. "Mousedung." The tom kept padding in the direction of where the bats had flitted out guided by the moon light.

(I don't know what to do now... she can't move without the bats to guide her, so she's just got time to kill until the next night.)
