Howlkit simply acknowledged their brother with a simple nod before stepping forwards when Dawnstar called their name. It seemed the kit was right when they had assumed they would become an apprentice this meeting. Snarlkit and Echokit showed up, which pleased them immensely. At least they hadn't left like Wildkit and Houndkit.

**Elmshadow**

The dark tom was lost in his thoughts when he felt a presence slide up beside him, he nearly jumped at the pressure. Ashamed at his lapse in awareness he was ready to turn and snap at whatever cat had been the cause of the disturbance; but as he came to he recognized Goldenstep beside him. His tense muscles and hotly coiled stomach relaxed. He smiled and meowed lowly, "You snuck up on me. Even with a pelt as bright at the sun, you can still embody the Shadowclan essence of stealth. You're a wonder, Goldenstep." He leaned over and licked her ear affectionately.

As Dawnstar got into her announcements, calling up a list of kits, Elmshadow did pick out three of the names. Their daughters, Sunsetkit, Ashkit, and Chamomilekit, were to be made apprentices today. It was not pride he felt, there is no accomplishment in making it to apprenticeship, but he was glad to have his kits, their kits, make it into the age of usefulness to their clan.

**Cougarivy**

Goldenstep caught Cougarivy's eye as the golden she-cat put herself beside Elmshadow. After spending the day dealing with Whisperwing, Goldenstep was the last cat she wanted to see sidling up to Elmshadow. Elmshadow's mate didn't usually put Cougarivy in a bad mood but today was different. She blamed Whisperwing. She huffed, maybe loud enough for Elmshadow or Goldenstep to hear, but she wasn't concerned. Let them think about her.

**Sunsetkit**

Her name from Dawnstar's mouth sent a shiver up her spine. With two of her siblings on either side, she felt confident and excited. Snowkit and Yellowkit left their mark on Sunsetkit's heart but at least she'd get to recieve her 'paw with Chamomilekit and Ashkit. And today she'd learn of her new mentor as well! Sunsetkit took a deep breath, held her chin high, and stepped forward. She stole a glance towards her parents. They were both watching! Something about Elmshadow's presence made her feel bolder, more determined. But he'd be here anyway, right? It was a clan meeting. It was all the same. Her father was watching her become an apprentice. For the second time in her short life, she had an inexplicable urge to show him what she could do, make him proud of her. He didn't strike her as a cat that would be easy to pride, maybe that's what drew her to wanting to earn his pride, it was a challenge and the day she did get it, that'd be the day she knew she'd done something worthy of it. She started as she noticed she'd been staring and turned her attention back up to Dawnstar. She hoped with her whole being that she got a good mentor who would help shape her into a strong warrior, she had a goal now.

Echokit pricked his ears. It seemed for some reason or another, Dawnstar had called his littermates' names and not his. He didn't recall doing anything against the warrior code recently, and he was certainly just as prepared as his brothers. Perhaps their leader had just made a mistake.


(Shoot, I must've forgotten to submit Echokit. Now what? XP)

Goldenstep felt a fierce blush heat up beneath her pelt. She'd been with Elmshadow for moons now, they had a litter of kits who were now six moons old, and even still Elmshadow could make her swoon. She purred contentedly.

Her heart leapt again when their kits' names were called by Dawnstar. Ashkit, Chamomilekit, and Sunsetkit would be getting their apprentice names and mentors today. Her heart swelled with pride but a sad regret settled in the pit of her stomach. Her kits were grown now, they wouldn't need her as much. And there were two missing. Snowkit and Yellowkit hadn't made it to see their apprenticeship. Goldenstep sighed but tried to focus on her three remaining kits. This was a big and special day for them, she was happy for them even if she grieved for herself.

Gingercry glanced to his side as movement caught his attention. Loonfeather settled near him. He dipped his head in greeting to his son. Everytime he looked at him, even more so than with Goldenstep, he thought of Lillyleap. Goldenstep had a more similar look to his late mate as she shared the blood that Loonfeather did not. But it was Loonfeather's adoption that really brought their mother to his mind. He couldn't look at Loonfeather without thinking about how kind and caring Lillyleap had been; he likely wouldn't have had the pleasure of being Loonfeather's father had it not been for her.

Goldenstep's kits pulled him from his reverence. He resituated himself and looked towards his daughter sitting with her mate. He smiled, happy for his daughter. He could still remember the feeling of watching his kits go through their own apprentice and warrior ceremonies.

Pigeonpaw sat back and got comfortable. Her apprentice ceremony had only been a moon ago, she didn't really want to sit through another one, especially now with her mind reeling from her family's return. But she knew these new apprentices deserved the same respect that she'd received during hers. Besides, it'd be nice to no longer be the youngest apprentice.

The gray kit could only smile. In that moment, it was only her, Sunset, and Cham. Nothing else was there, except their names called. She padded forward. This was the moment she would become useful. She was aware of her two supportive parents, but she could only look forward. Shooting a rather excited glance to her sisters, Ashkit, for what seems like the first time, grinned.

Chamomilekit practically jumped out of her skin at the trio's names being called. This was it, this was really it, and boy she wasn't ready! She began shaking like a leaf desperately clinging to a tree as her peers began to step up. The kitten had half a mind to go fleeing to her Momma and father as she stood there, legs quaking. She doubted that the leader would do anything short of taking her razor-sharp claws to her pelt, though; That thought made the shaking even worse.

Chamomilekit took a quivering step forward, long after Sunsetkit and Ashkit had taken multiple strides forward. Tears couldn't help but prick at her eyes as she swallowed a wail. Why was she so scared?! Why couldn't she just be happy like her sisters? Why did the thought of the clan's eyes boring into her meek, odd-looking self make her want to sob? This all felt so, so wrong.

Eventually, she had made her way back to the sides of her sisters, tear-glazed eyes trained at the floor as she attempted to control her quivering as to not set off their alarm bells. This day really couldn't get any worse.
