ThunderClan: Life Before 2023's Sinkhole

thunderclan was getting boring, real fast. any chaos that happened was related to anarchy and the high ranks, and it died down quickly. he'd gotten so bored that he felt like he'd explode at any moment. if he felt like that, he couldnt imagine how the other apprentices felt. luckily for them, cornpaw was so generous, and so kind, that he decided he'd cheer them all up with some harmless entertainment in the early hours of the morning.

shuffling into the den backwards, cornpaw pulled a leaf towards him with every step. whatever was on the leaf was unseen for the most part, but it was obviously something..odd, considering he kept pulling his paws away and letting out small "ee"'s. once he was in the middle of the den, he stepped aside, and on the leaf was large, horribly long and very spiky looking centipede. it wriggled wildly, clearly agitated from being stolen from its home deep in the territory.

he hopped over the leaf, standing in the entrance as a blockade of sorts as the centipede began crawling around. "CENTIPEDE ATTACK!" he screeched, voice ringing throughout the den. yes!! this was gonna be so cool!! they'd all be so happy.

Softpaw woke up, hearing Cornpaw yelling his head off. ' 'Cornpaw, what is it. . .it's early-' ' Her voice was groggy, but her eyes quickly went wide, as she saw the centipede on the floor, in the den, where she slept. Hey, Cornpaw, fun fact, Softpaw was not happy, she was terrified and very displeased! Her first reaction was to immediately scream, and back right up to the walls of the den, she was not going near this demon thing!

The black tom’s ears perked up in surprise. When the other warrior didn’t get up, he got to his paws and padded over to examine his wounds. That doesn’t look good. He couldn’t just leave a clanmate in such a terrible spot. Even he had some morals.

“Blackjaw?” Mallardstep just wanted to make sure it was worth all the fuss before carrying Blackjaw to the medicine den.

Inwardly the warrior groaned. This kit is way too pushy. Fighting was his worst skill, not that he didn’t know enough to teach an apprentice. It would just be a huge pain. He would have to work much harder than if he was training Sagepaw to hunt. I don’t want to argue with an apprentice. Let’s just get this over with. Besides he couldn’t think of a logical reason to not start now.

“Fine, let’s go.” Mallardstep, flicked his tail, and headed towards the camp entrance.

It only took a little bit of shouting for Cinderpaw to bounce out of her nest, lively eyes flittering around the apprentices' den. It didn't take long for her eyes to meet the chaos, with her letting out a pleased squeal. A centipede! Centipedes were so cool, with all their little legs and how fast they could crawl around. Like snakes, but better, 'cause they have legs.

"Stop being such a baby, Softpaw! It's not gonna hurt you, it's just, uh..." She trailed off, padding over to prod the bug with her paw. "Squiggly! Yeah, squiggly. Besides, is that any way to treat the newest Thunderclan apprentice? Where'd you find him, Cornpaw?"

Scooping the creepy crawly up into her paws, she thrust it towards Softpaw. A cheeky grin painted her face. "Should I leave it in your nest?! Oh, oh, oh, what if we let it live in Bumblepaw's nest? I'd love to see his face after that!"

perfect! softpaw was the first to wake up and see the surprise! though her utterly terrified reaction wasn't what he expected, he still smiled, grin large and wide. "it IS early!! which is the best time to do fun things!" eyes shifting over to cinderpaw, he quickly nodded in agreement. the centipede hadn't hurt him the whole time he spent carefully bringing it to camp. and SQUIGGLY. very squiggly. that was now his favorite word. it was a silly fun word, he loved it. heehoo.

"dont worry, softpaw!! centipedepaw doesn't bite, i know that because he didn't bite me." somehow, he avoided it. "oh! i found him DEEP in the territory, under a big rotting log. there were lots of like, little worm things in the log too, but they looked kinda yucky, so i chose him instead!" cornpaw mewed, sticking his tongue out when he mentioned the little bugs that were, in fact, termite larvae.

cinderpaws suggestion caused a high pitched giggling sound to erupt from him. "BUMBLEPAWS! then softpaws!! and then - and then, he can travel to other people's nest because he's SQUIGGLY!"

The little kit couldn’t speak for fright. His eyes grew wider and wider as the story continued. His pupils were tiny slits. The leader killed a kit! His heart pounded in his chest. Would Aspenstar do that? He wasn’t sure he didn’t know Aspenstar. Surely not, right? His pelt prickled, and even though Ridgeclaw had told him to leave he couldn’t move.

When Softpaw spoke she drew his attention, and broke through his shock. Tears welled up in his eyes, and if Mallowkit hadn’t been there he probably would have started crying. Mallowkit. How would he feel if something like that happened to his brother? He sought him out in the crowd. Was he just as scared as Eaglekit? They should both go with Softpaw. She said she could make them feel better. When he found Mallowkit, he got to his paws and padded over. He nuzzled him to try and reassure him if he was sad.

“Let’s go with Softpaw, ok?”

Dapplekit was shaking once the story was done. She rushed out of the den and quickly put herself into Softpaw's fur. She was quivering. Why would a clan leader kill one of their clan's kit? She thought. She would always be near her family from now on.

[A Wolf]

Snowwolf's amber eyes gleamed with a clan delight as she was placed on a patrol. She enjoyed them, enjoyed working, and proving her worth. Though she wasn't quite sure who Wolftiger was, it sounded like a rather dumb name anyway, but she was quickly introduced to him when he approached. She allowed a quick dip of her head in a greeting before, at a quick pace heading for the border, not bothering to chat with her companion, work was to be done and small talk was of no interest to the large cat.

Sharpkit sheathed his claws fast as Wishkit batted his snout with her paws. He kicked her with his back legs and dropped down into a crouch. He had seen some of the older cats do this, so he wanted to try.
