in the sinnoh region lies a lab in the heart of sandgem town. over the years the town has expanded so a lot of small families reside there. professor rowan left his lab behind long ago and left it in the care of professor rose and her son, xavier, a 15 year old boy who assists in research and has since he was ten. he has been with the lab as it slowly expanded and more people started helping with it, and technology grew more advanced. xavier is accompanied by his partners mawile, jolteon, alolan vulpix, and scorbunny. a riolu that belongs to his mother will sometimes assist him. he's dedicated to pokemon and research. his mother often assigns partner pokemon to beginning trainers and xavier is in charge of caring for the pokemon until they are given away.

xavier is also transgender, though he is quite comfortable letting people know and his mother is quite accepting. he tends to wear long sleeved black and gray striped shirts, arm warmers, baggy pants, and combat boots. he always keeps a long chain around his neck with a small stone underneath the collar of his shirt- a mawilite mega stone that his mother discovered a long time ago but let him keep. he didn't have any way to use it- no mega ring... but the stone is special to him nonetheless. his hair is thick, wavy, whispy and green. his eyes are a soft baby blue with freckles sprinkled across his nose. though his eyes are always covered so you don't usually see them.

he meets a young girl one morning as he is out on a research assignment... she is in danger, seemingly with no pokemon with her... he acts fast. though, that encounter starts a true friendship...

the teenager looked up from his spot on the windowseat, scorbunny settled fast asleep against his chest. mawile was beside him looking out the window, her shiny pink colouring sparkling slightly as she used the jaw on the back of her head to gently nibble on xavier's fingers with affection. she looked up as well.

his mother was in the doorway of his bedroom. she smiled as he looked up at her before she motioned for him to follow her to the front area of the lab.

xavier gently held scorbunny still in his arms as he hopped down, so as not to wake him. he followed his mother out, mawile following at his feet, her jaw holding onto his pants.

professor rose smiled as they walked through the busy lab to the main screen area. "there's been strange going ons at sandgem beach... it's especially busy during this time of year, the beginning of summer, and strangely enough people have reported sighting what they believe to be manaphy... though im not too sure that is what they are seeing... i really would like for you to find this out Xay"

xavier nodded with a smile and put a hand to his heart. "count on us, mom" before turning around and saying "let's go you guys" he patted the jolteon and alolan vulpix poke balls on the chain on his shirt, and smiled down at the now awake scorbunny in his arms. "you roaring to go buddy?" the bunny pokemon nodded and crawled up onto his shoulder, and xavier took out mawile's poke ball and returned her, so she could be sent out in case of emergency.

the teenager left the lab and smiled as he walked through the busy town, reaching the beach path and walking along it until he hit the sand, and scorbunny hopped down to enjoy the sand on his feet.

xavier walked up the beach towards the water, and suddenly he heard a massively loud burst of water and a loud cry before a scream-

xavier whirled around to see a gyrados and below... a small, terrified looking teenage girl. xavier burst to speed as the gyrados prepared a hyper beam, and he hopped beside the girl, scooped her into his arms, and just barely dodged the hyper beam attack as he shot away and set her down under a palm tree before throwing his poke balls. "jolteon thunder!! mawile dazzling gleam!!" scorbunny settled beside the girl protectively to watch the battle.

the thunder and dazzling gleam attacks combined to burst against the wild gyrados- only for it to shake it off. gyrados prepared a hydro pump.

"jolteon, dodge it!! mawile jump on his back!!the two did as commanded, swiftly dodging the attack. "now-" xavier reached into a pouch at his waist and took out a pink and a yellow gem, holding them up so they gleam and the light hits mawile and jolteon, causing them to shine.

"and now- again- THUNDER!! DAZZLING GLEAM!!" the two pokemon combined the moves, and they shot at the gyrados, but this time- ten times stronger. the gyrados yelled out as it was hit, obviously in tons of distress, before it turned and swam away before disappearing in the water.

xavier gazed at the water, shocked a moment, before smiling big and running to his two partners. "good job you two!! you were amazing!!" the two pokemon jumped into his arms and nuzzled him as he laughed.

suddenly he remembered the girl and turned around to see her still under the tree, watching him with awe, his scorbunny beside her. he smiled and stood, going up to her and gently kneeling down in front of her. "hey- you alright? that was a big scare huh?" he chuckled and held out a hand.

Her eyes were wife as the creature leaped at her, her head hitting the tree regularly, something she had always done. She held it tightly, watching with shock, before blinking as he asked if she was alright. She nodded. "As fine as I'll ever be!" She said, shaking her head as she took, trying to figure out what just happened. Her hair was down, and she had just been walking by the beach when that... thing just leaped out at her. She knew it as another Pokémon, but she didnt really know what it was. She had left her Mimikyu at home, but that didn't really bother her. But it would've helped to have her with her. She sighed, and smiled, looking at the boy.

"c'mere..." he gently reached out towards her head and gently brushed his fingers along her scalp, feeling a couple of bumps where she had hit it. "you've got a couple bad spots... im going to take you back to the lab to get my mother to check you... she was an assistant for nurse joy before she took over the lab" he stood and offered a hand to help her up, and scorbunny stayed beside her feet. "looks like scorbunny wants to watch out for you... okay c'mon" he led her up the beach path and back into town, returning his mawile and jolteon to their poke balls, not letting go of the girl's hand.

"my name happens to be xavier by the way. what's yours?" he looked away. "im transgender, i chose the name xavier when i came out" shrugging he quickened his pace just slightly as the lab came into view and professor rose was standing outside.

she smield and stood up, watching the scor bunny for a moment, before she heard xavier ask a question. "oh! my name's jennifer!" she said, smiling. she braided her hair back, using a ribbon she had in her pocket, stopping as she listened to xavier and the woman speak. she knelt down and pet the scorbunny softly, smiling and looking up when she was addressed.
