Willowpaw was searching around for prey, she was unable to find any unfortunatly, She let out a small sigh, her ears and tail losing their perkines.

The gray she-cat wandered the forest, looking for any sign of nearby prey. Instead, she hears a sigh. Curiosity piqued, Grayscar quietly wandered closer. It was Willowpaw. "Hey, are you alright?" she called out, trying not to startle the younger cat.

Willowpaw twisted her head quickly, even though it had been some time since the fox attack, she still had slight PTSD from it, though seeing it was another cat she calmed down, not even thinking about her sentances


'Yeah, just can't seem to find any prey." She lifted her nose back up to the sky again to see if anything could be scented, when she still caught no scent she hung her head.

This area was usually packed full of mice or birds. Where were they? Did she have something on her that was scaring everything away? Or did she scare them all off by being loud? Willowpaw had no clue.

She shook out her black and dark brown spotted pelt, long fur falling off as summer was here. No matter how much she groomed she couldn't seem to get it all out.

"Do I smell bad or something? I can't find any prey, and I'm wondering if I need to take a small dip in that pond?" She asked the older warrior, her bi-coloured eyes searching around despite her not smelling any prey.

Ah, it seems as if she still managed to startle the other. She guiltily bowed her head. But at least the problem the apprentice was having seemed to be on the easily solvable side. "I don't think you smell. The area does seem pretty barren right now, maybe we can go elsewhere," Grayscar attempted to reassure Willowpaw. She decided to give some advice that could stop this kind of thing from happening in the future, "If you stand downwind the prey can smell you even if you do wash your pelt in water. And if you set off prey that can warn other prey, you won't even notice that the entire area has been abandoned until you're the only one there." She gave an encouraging smile and beckoned with her tail, "Come on, let's find where everything went to hide."

Willowpaw brightened at the mention of hunting, and began to walk to the older she-cat. Once she was next to her, she got prepped and ready to go, glad for her longish fur on her paw. It ften helped hide her paw steps, of course she still had to be carful not to step on a branch or anything. The faintest of lines mentioned to her popped up into her head. It was something along the lines of her being a maine coon? Or part maine coon? She couldn't rememeber, and tossed the thought out of her head while she waited to find more prey.

Meadowhaze bounded through the evergreen forest with Fallenpaw a few paces behind. The feline heedlessly raced ahead, looking over her shoulder for any trace of her other companions. It was only because of the widening of her apprentice’s eyes did Meadowhaze turn back around to see where she was going, and with a yelp barely skirted around a sturdy tree. The sudden change of course sent her pawpads stumbling, and then she was spinning sideways into Fallenpaw, who let out a decidedly startled exclamation. A few agonizingly humiliating moments later, both of them were sprawled out on the ground, stunned into a dazed silence. Meadowhaze groaned out loud with frustration. “Oh, I’m such a klutz, I bet I just scared off all the prey in ShadowClan.” But her apprentice didn’t seem to be mad. Instead, Fallenpaw’s lips were twitching with amusement, and then the younger she-cat was full out laughing at a very indignant looking Meadowhaze.

"I thought you were the optimistic one." Fallenpaw remarked, sobering for a moment to chase after a panicked mouse that had scurried out of its burrow. The black and white apprentice dropped the piece of prey at her mentor's paws, green eyes still glinting with traces of hidden humor. "Maybe you haven't scared away all the prey." The dame mewed, eyeing a cluster of vibrating pine-cones with interest before adding. "Yet." Her gaze flitted around the little clearing to look for the other two members of their hunting patrol. "Where's the others?"

Dappledleaf

Dappledleaf came running, not too long after hearing the crash. "Are you two okay?!" Her exclaim was full of maternal worry. She noticed their ruffled pelts and the cream and ginger she-cat let out a purr of amusement. "You two remind me of Willowkit and Sagekit." Her meow was sweet, and she noticed Fallenpaws good eye for prey. She busied herself with finding some prey, opening her jaws to find a scent. The smell of the pine forest flooded her jaws, as did the scent of vole, thrush, and mouse. Perfect! She dropped into a crouch, keeping her tail straight above the pine needle covered ground. Her paws slid quietly over the ground, barely making a sound. A vole popped out of a streambed, its nose twitching. The she-cat paused, upwind of the rodent. It crept out of the bed, and she waited until it was a rabbit-length away from the bed before she pounced, grabbing it in her jaws and flinging it into the air. It landed on the ground, slightly dazed, when she grabbed it again, nipping its neck and killing it. She quickly sent a prayer to StarClan, thanking them for this prey before burying it.

“Great, I’m being compared to kits again.” The tortoiseshell warrior mewed with a deflating sigh.

As Meadowhaze just lay in the center of the clearing, woefully thinking about her misfortune, Fallenpaw wriggled her haunches and sprang forward towards the trembling pinecones, intent on snagging whatever lay beneath. What Fallenpaw had not expected, though, was a kit’s head to pop up in place of the prey she’d assumed it was. Twisting to avoid landing and flattening the kit, the apprentice fell to the ground besides it, bruising herself. “A kit.” The usually silent apprentice proclaimed with disbelief, pushing herself to her paws again.

At the mention of a kit, Meadowhaze scurried over, blue gaze wide with both delight and puzzlement. “A kit!” She repeated gleefully. “What’s your name, little one?” The once again, overly energetic feline asked, but received no response from the terrified, hissing little bundle of fur. Thoroughly puzzled, Meadowhaze looked towards Dappledleaf with a rather helpless expression. “What do we do with it?"

"Doesn’t look like a ShadowClan kit to me.” Fallenpaw mused observantly from her corner.

Dappledleaf

At the mention of a kit, Dappledleaf quickly ran over, skidding to a halt. She sniffed the kit, and touched her nose to it. It was colder than she liked. Ignoring its hisses, she started to lick the fur backwards, cooing to it softly. "It's okay, little one, we aren't going to hurt you." She paused, nuzzling it again, and seemed content with it's body temperature. "We should bring it back to camp.. But we must talk to Dawnstar first. Fallenpaw, could you go fetch the vole I caught earlier, please?" She laid down, nuzzling the tiny kit towards her belly, hoping it would stay close to her and stay warm. Even if it was newleaf, some days could be cold, and she didn't know how long it had been out here, without food or shelter.

Slytiger followed behind the warriors and apprentice, his head swiveling back and forth as he took in the territory around him. There were lots of pine trees which caused shadows to fall across the springy forest floor. No wonder they were called ShadowClan. The Toyger's attention was snatched from surveying the territory by a commotion at the front of their patrol. It seemed that Fallenpaw had crashed into Meadowhaze, and they were both on the ground. So much for hunting.

Slytiger slid away from the others as Dappledfern ensured the two were okay. There wasn't likely to be any prey in the nearby vicinity with the noise that Meadowhaze and Fallenpaw had made. He opened his jaws and drew in the scents of the forest, having to filter through the musky smell of pine to find an underlying hint of squirrel. Slytiger dropped smoothly into a hunting crouch and began to stalk towards the scent's origin. Moons as a rogue and having to catch his own prey made him quite the excellent hunter, and it wasn't long before the squirrel was in sight.

However, to the tom's frustration, his patrol mates yowling about a kit caused him to jerk his head around, which the squirrel saw and promptly darted up a tree. Slytiger let out a hiss of frustration as he turned and padded back towards Meadowhaze and Dappledfern, where he found the latter with the kit near her belly.

"Dawnstar doesn't seem like the type to take in random kits who don't provide a use. I say we chuck it over the border and hope its mother returns for it." Was he being harsh? Yes. Did he care? Nope!
