But Shade was genuinely impressed with her work, which was more than he could say to any of his former apprentices. "Alright now, come at me a few more times," he said as he resumed his battle stance.

This time Foxpaw tried a different tactic. She lunged for his left side and while doing so, swiftly tried to whip around and get behind him, where she would then try to rear up and land her claws on his hindquarters, and send a good bite to his tail, which would cause pain. If possible she would then try to leap onto his back and latch her teeth around his scruff and pull upwards to cause more pain. Then she would throw some swift strikes at his ears before leaping down to face him, reading for more if the pain that was caused wasn't enough

Shadefrost yowled in pain, as teeth bit down hard on his tail. Man she was not going easy on the claws and teeth rule. He snatched it away from her and not trying to wait for the next attack to land he turned towards her and backed himself up against a tree trunk. It wasn't really the best move he could make, but it would stop Foxpaw from being able to get behind him which was good enough.

Foxpaw launched herself over her mentors head and landed on the tree bark above him. She pulled herself up to the first branch before leaping down onto him if she could from it. She would then do what she tried to do last time if she got on his back. She would try to latch her teeth around his scruff and pull upwards to cause more pain. Then she would throw some swift strikes at his ears before leaping down to face him, reading for more if the pain that was caused wasn't enough

Shadefrost loved the persistence his apprentice was showing, but he wasn't going to let her do any more damage to his sleek black pelt. The tom had an idea of what Foxpaw was trying to do as he watched her leap on to the tree and climb to a branch, but at the same time he was beginning to form a plan that would lessen the effect of her attack.

Shadefrost waited for her to jump down from her branch before rolling on to his back and outstretching his arms, his goal was to sit back and let gravity do it's thing by bring Foxpaw crashing onto his paws. He was fully aware that the weight of an entire cat falling on him would still hurt and her claws wouldn't help ease the pain either, but at least he wouldn't be the only one suffering in pain. Plus Shadefrost was fairly sure that if he didn't do this he would walk away from this battle training with more bruises and cuts than fur.

Woollyfeather lead Ratpaw to the training cliffs, having made sure beforepaw to mention what the training was for, remembering her unintentional fumble with Sagepaw. Just as they reached the cliffs, she turned her head to the apprentice, soft ears lolling lazily with her movements.
"Have you done battle training before? Even if you haven't, we can do more complicated training once we get basics down if you feel you'd like to."
She wanted to know where he stood in his knowledge so she could teach accordingly.

Foxpaw was prepared for this. He just exposed his belly to her. That was stupid. Sure his legs (arms) were out and those hit her, but she was small and able to get right through them and she planted herself on his stomach, with full access to his throat. She would try to strike her claws down his stomach, lighter than she would in battle as to not seriously hurt him, and try and throw a mock bite at his throat, only catching fur though on purpose as to not hurt him again.

He was pretty sure that Foxpaw had just killed him, no matter how fake it was, which meant that? "Alright, you're clearly the victor here," said the tom in an exhausted manner "great work, a little bit painful, but still you did an overall good job with battle training today." Yup, Shade was positive that his apprentice would grow to be a warrior that'd make the clan proud. "Can you get off me now?" Asked the blue eyed tom with a slightly strained smile, "this position is somewhat uncomfortable for me."

"oh, sorry." Foxpaw said and hopped off him. She was so happy with the praise though. "you didn't even teach me anything." she said.

"That's correct this was an assessment to see how good you are at attacking," said Shadefrost sitting up, "I would have done one to see how good you are at defense as well, but I'm a little soar right now so that will have to wait. To be quite honest the tom wasn't sure if he could teach Foxpaw much in this area of her training, "But that being said we will still continue with the lesson." He walked over to the spot where he was standing when their session began and sat, "Usually I'd be teaching you something simple, but what I just saw told me that you might need to learn something a little more advanced." He stopped and flicked his tail thoughtfully before going on "You know what, I'll let you decide, do you want to start with the basics and work your way up or do you want to jump straight into the hard part?"
