Should BlackStar had lead shadowclan?

I personally believe BlackStar should have never lead the clan of shadowclan because whenever he seemed to always give up his role and back down, my example; Bloodclans uprising!. During these times he let cats of his own clan and other clans die at his paws, he was able to stop him whenever he pleased but never did. BlackStar wasnt the best character and could have easily taken bloodclan down easier if he had sided after knowing what was going to happen but again, he didnt. please, share your own opinions to me on how you feel about blackstar!

He's not my favorite cat of all time, but I feel he was a little bit better than most of the Shadowclan leaders after Tigerstar 1.0. That's just my opinion though.

i feel like blackstars a lot more nuanced than the other war criminals of the series bc we got a whole novella about how Bad he felt for doing all that and what consequences he reaped. does it excuse him? no. does it redeem him? maybe! but i feel like if we're raising this question we also should question the other leaders/cats in general who let this kind of stuff happen and got off basically scot free. case in point: leopardstar i hate her this is a leopardstar hating post

As much as an asshat Leopardstar is, this is not the thread to be hating her in.

From a writer stand point I think Blackstar is an interesting leader. At least as a concept. From the outside he seems like a perfectly fine leader. He does a pretty decent job at leading and rebuilding his clan after all their tragedy. However his past with Tigerstar and his whole plot with Sol show how easily manipulated and weak he really is. The peace he creates in Shadowclan was hollow, and the deputy he chose to lead was a complete failure. After his death the whole clan pretty much falls apart, and while that is Rowanstar’s fault I feel like it’s partially his fault too. He didn’t build a clan that could last and that should have been his goal. Does that mean I hate him or think he shouldn’t have been chosen leader? No. I think he’s a good leader just not a great one.

I think Blackstar was a fine leader, but I don't like how Tigerstar chose him as deputy AGAIN after he was already deputy under Brokenstar. I would have preferred Boulder or Oakfur or someone like that. I also don't like his deputy choice of Russetfur, mostly because we didn't know a lot about her before then(However I do think that Russetfur was a much better choice than Rowanclaw, but Blackstar was getting old after all)
