The she-cat choked in shock as she watched the cat giggle with malice. She swerved as the she-cat aimed for her shoulder, barely missing the blow. she bared her teeth. If this was what the cat wanted, so be it. She was a bit rusty in fighting, but it'd have to do. She lashed forwards, attempting to land a blow onto the cat's face, then leaping back then diving forwards to try to jump on the cat's back.
The little she-cat liked nothing better than to fight a battle with a disadvantage but she had to be smart about it as her size didn't allow for much more disadvantage, though winning was not what excited Cougarivy, it was the possibility of not winning that excited her most. All the same, when she saw the first strike coming, a shiver of excitement running through her at the realization that the pathetic wounded cat would actually put up a fight, she leapt into the attack, taking the claws across her face as she reached around and clawed at the other cat's face and eyes. When the intruder retreated slightly, Cougarivy caught her bearings but quickly realized the retreat had only been a fake and she dropped to the ground, rolling over the pine needles as her opponent leapt into the air to evade the spot she'd be landing. When her paws made it around and touched ground again, she popped up and pounced, attempting to time the other cat's pounce right so she could hit her flank as soon as she touched ground, before she could have a chance to get her balance or bearings. Cougarivy reached out with unsheathed claws and a bright smile, putting everything into the the assumption that she'd get the timing perfectly and not allowing herself to think about what she'd be throwing herself into if she hit the spot too early which would leave her in a similar position as she'd just rolled away from or, more likely, too late which would find her throwing herself into the a near even head on frontal attack.

Shadowfur unsheathed his claws as he saw Darkfall get into position. He would never admit it to the much younger tom, but he wasn’t particularly skilled at hunting. The only reason he was capable of catching prey most of the time was because he was good at strategizing, and he’d spent moons practicing. The perceived expectations his Clanmates had for him kept his mind focused, despite occasional, pressing doubts.
Bounding forward at first, the large tom soon lumbered forward, the ground beneath his paws sloping a little awkwardly. The rabbit’s eyes lit with fear, and it darted away from him. Digging his claws into the ground to steady himself as he jerked to a halt, he placed a silent, hopeful bet on Darkfall’s skill.

Darkfall watched Shadowfur’s awkward rousing of the rabbit that was now heading towards him. That was… odd. Was Shadowfur inept at hunting? Because what he just witnessed was a hot mess. But now was not the time to be spacing out and pondering such things. He had a rabbit to catch!
Darkfall knew that with his size, even the slightest of mess-ups could mean failure. However, though both he and Shadowfur were both large cats there were some things that differentiated the two. Darkfall was actually a pretty competent hunter, and he wasn’t quite as large as Shadowfur yet. He was sure he would be able to manage this quite handily.
As the rabbit came thundering towards him, Darkfall tensed in anticipation. Wait for it… Wait for it… Wait… He had to time this right or everything would be a waste. He could feel his muscles protesting, begging to be allowed to be unwound, but he wouldn’t oblige them. Not yet.
Within a couple of tail lengths now, the rabbit seemed to sense its impending doom as its ears flicked and it started to veer away. It was already too late. Quick as an adder, Darkfall dashed out of his hiding spot and swiped a paw at its legs, causing the poor lagomorph to tumble. It wasn’t long before the large tabby lept upon the animal and quickly delivered a bite to its neck.
Shadowfur hoped Darkfall hadn’t noticed his poor display, but he doubted it. Internally, he cursed his poor mobility and inability to hunt as competently as an Enforcer should.
His focus was recaptured by Darkfall as the young warrior shot forward to catch the rabbit. Initially, it seemed as if the prey animal would get away, drawing a sharp intake of air from Shadowfur. Fortunately, the tom’s paws successfully captured the fuzzy creature and ensured its swift death.
A stoic expression taking over his face, the black tom padded down the slope to join Darkfall. “Thank our ancestors you caught that,” he grumbled. “I wouldn’t want to have to do all that over again. Come on, let’s take this back to camp. This should be enough to feed a couple warriors.”
( This patrol is done! Don’t forget to have Darkfall put his rabbit on the prey pile, and adjust the number accordingly! )
Once his chosen patrolmates had arrived, Shadowfur headed out of camp with them. He waited until they were alone to explain their mission. He didn’t need every cat under the sun knowing that there was another cat within their Clan targeting their own.
“We’ve got another murderer in this Clan,” he growled. “Willowpaw was killed by one of our own, I’m sure of it. The murderer rolled the body in ferns and dung. If we can find some ferns near some dung, then perhaps we can find our killer.”
( POSTING ORDER: Shadowfur - Slytiger - Darkfall. Per the request of the murderer’s roleplayer, this patrol will not be finding anything to lead them to a killer. We can each do a post of our cat looking around and failing to find anything! )

what the hell! who was this cat!? "dear child?? what are you 200? nowadays us trendy besties don't talk like that. and all that holy ghost crap you're talking i don't believe for one second, maybe try your little antics on a lesser clan like.. i don't know, thunderclan??" wildpaw was very perplexed by this cat, and slightly annoyed at the moment with it as well. "well if we're staying in character, i suppose im just your savior from the highest highs of starclan! .. see how stupid that sounds? uGH do you even thrift?? is there any reason for me to like you at all??" even shadowclan didn't tend to tick her off like this one, but she held her composure. she was above whoever this cat was and wouldn't let it get to her. although the cats next statement proved wildpaw's thoughts that this cat thought she was an idiot. wildpaw looked down at hollyberries spirit pushed towards her, and she knew if she had any lick of smarts she would not be eating those. though they did like HIGHLY thriftable... "so, i will not be eating any of those suspicious berries BUT i will be taking them for my collection bestie!! ..actually, we're NOT besties. you are not mollypop." wildpaw then scooted a couple of the interesting berries to her side before looking back at spirit. "is there anything else you're going to bother me about?? i have to get back to thrifting you little rodent from the depths of the hell."

Leaving camp, the young queen's mind had been on Moonlit Grove. She knew her mother was not buried there but it felt the natural place to go. But soon after stepping into the open forest her paws had changed course, she realized her instincts already knew that wherever Goldenstep would have ended up after her death, she was as likely to be around any Shadowclan burial ground as she would be in the Shadowclan camp. Sunsetthorn hoped Goldenstep had still been granted a place among Starclan but there was doubt needling in since her mother's abandonment of Shadowclan, ultimately dying an outsider. With the bloody memories plaguing her mind like they hadn't in moons, her paws carried her to the border, the very place she'd crossed back over in her frantic search for help, having found Elmshadow, for all the help he was. They'd been too late to save Goldenstep but the coldness from her father, Goldenstep's former mate, as though the mangled cat he stumbled upon had just been some random outsider. The memory sank in her gut and made her nauseous, made her want to turn and attack the culprit, the face of all of her misfortune, the eyes that seemed to stare forever uncaring at everything crumbling around her, as he followed her even now. She'd chosen Shadowclan over her mother and sisters, but the sinking sick feeling in her gut was telling her she chose Elmshadow over Goldenstep and the thought was almost too much to bear, it was almost enough to make her want to seek out the fox that had killed her mother and offer herself up as well. She'd never choose Elmshadow over Goldenstep...yet here she was, walking with Elmshadow to her mother's grave.
Sunsetthorn's paws stayed at the border, her blue eye looking through the gathering darkness in the direction of that gruesome memory. She swallowed and dispelled her father from her mind. Sitting down and closing her eye, she turned her face up to the stars where they hid behind the thick, black clouds. Goldenstep, if you can hear me, see me, please... Please what? She needed her mother but what could she do from the other side? Sunsetthorn's face fell again and, without opening her eye, she felt a tear slide out from her eye lid and down her cheek. Mother, I need help. What has life become? What am I still doing here? She opened her eye and looked up at the clouds. The helplessness felt complete, engulfing her, drowning her. She knew she had to carry on, for Hazelkit and Mousekit, and she didn't truly feel depressed and constantly angry as she had before Branchfire, but she was lost. Those fleeting moments of happiness were just that, fleeting, and then when she was alone with her thoughts she'd return to the darkness of the stranger within herself.
Staring above, the high above winds moving the clouds across the sky, Sunsetthorn let the chill of the encroaching night move through her and she let her senses go completely, unconsciously putting her entire trust in Elmshadow to protect them both from approaching danger, or maybe she simply didn't care in that brief moment if she lived or died. Until the clouds moved in just such a way that, for a few heartbeats, a single blazing star cut through the black clouds. Her blue eye fixed to the star and, in that brief interaction, a stillness moved through her, a resolute cool. As the star slipped back behind the moving clouds, Sunsetthorn took in a deep breath and whispered breathily, "I'll find her." She didn't know at first who she was talking about but, looking away from the sky with that familiar yet long-lost feeling of confidence spreading an easiness through her, she knew she was talking about herself.
She looked back at Elmshadow. His back was facing her and before she could say anything he pounced through the ferns, coming back with a mouse in his jaws. She felt nothing. She'd grown used to the overwhelming burn of anger and loathing she'd feel every time she looked at her father but even he could not tarnish the moment she'd just had and, voice unwavering, she said, "I'm going to hunt now and then I'll be ready to go back."
Elmshadow buried his mouse and nodded, meeting his daughter's eye. He felt the regret, looking at her permanently closed eye, that even as a medicine cat he was unable to save her eye when she'd been brought to him with a twoleg thorn sticking from it. But he made no mention and simply nodded in agreement at her resolute tone. He sat down as she moved away from him and disappeared into the growth. He could hear her if he concentrated but instead he turned his attention across the border. He recognized the place, it was a path he could never have forgotten; it was seared into his mind like a persistent burn upon flesh. It also wasn't lost on him that Sunsetthorn likely had that same burned memory and that was likely why she'd come out here. He swallowed, glancing up to the sky. He used to talk to Hawkscreech, wonder if his father in Starclan was proud of him. He hadn't had the time to wonder on such matters lately, just as he hadn't put too much thought into where Goldenstep was now. Was she in Starclan? He couldn't imagine her ending up in the Dark Forest, though what was the distinction between the two? Was leaving Shadowclan what it would take for her to go to the Place of No Stars? Or was she destined for some other place? Nearly as quickly as he'd looked up, he looked away again and turned his attention onto the scent of vole that had wafted up to meet him. Crouching down, he waited until he heard the rustling then noticed the twitching earth. As soon as the vole's angular head popped out of the twitching dirt, Elmshadow launched himself, scooping the small rodent from the hole and biting it neatly. As he finished burying it, Sunsetthorn was walking back with a couple nocturnal rodents herself. She didn't speak a word to him but the prey in her mouth and her sudden change in direction was signal enough for Elmshadow that she was heading back to camp. So he dug up his mouse and vole and followed after his daughter.

Slytiger followed closely behind Shadowfur, his ears swiveling as he listened to the sounds of the forest around him. He had definitely made the right choice by coming to ShadowClan, it had proved to be extremely interesting. And, of course, Dawnstar led it. "That sounds like a good plan. You were the one who found the body, right?"
Darkfall nodded solemnly at Shadowfur’s words. The tom was not happy. He was disappointed that yet another member of his clan was resorting to disgusting tactics such as murdering one of their own, an apprentice no less, and then defiling the body. ”They deserve to die,” he muttered under his breath as he kept an eye out for clues.
@RedAnger
Mintbranch had finished hunting and was taking a small break. He let out a puff of air as he leapt down his final tree with a thrush in his jaws. "Good hunt" he meowed to Cloversun.
