A Weird Start to Friendship {p}

Ciara sat in the passenger seat of her brother's car as he drove her to a high school where Ciara was going to be a substitute teacher for a class. Jackson pulled up into the parking lot, and Ciara gathered her things and stepped out. "Around 4, you said?" Jackson asked. "Um... I'll call you when I'm ready." She said. Jackson nodded and after Ciara closed the door, he drove off. Ciara walked through the school and to the classroom. She set her stuff down on the teacher's desk, took a deep breath, and faced the students. "Hello, um... My name is, uh... Miss Parker, and I'm your substitute teacher for today."

Ciara watched the kids as they went back to their stuff. She got their attention again. "Alright, since I'm new here, I need to know your names. So instead of something boring like a seating chart, why not we start in the front left corner, and work our way left to right, right to left, saying our names and something about ourselves. How about that?" Ciara tried.

"Nobody was talking to you, nerd!" Someone whispered in her ear sharply.
Luz shrunk in her seat a little.

Luz smiled a bit as the other kids instantly quieted. Luz thought about raising her hand and raised it ever so slightly before putting it down. The girl behind Luz shot her hand up immedatly.
