Default A Traveler's Hideaway

As a rule, Iris didn't like staying in one place for too long. She had been traveling constantly since she was able, first with her family, and when they were . . . gone, by herself. Staying in one place for too long made her restless, paws itching to travel, to explore, discover new things and places.
However, this was her only exception to that rule.
She was perched in the hayloft of an old, broken-down barn, overlooking the field beyond it. her mother had given birth to her and her sibling here, and this was really the only place she had ever felt a sense of belonging despite her constant travels. Whenever she did come here, she made sure to stay for a moon at least, just reminiscing about the times she and her deceased family used to live here.
There was a soft breeze blowing, and Iris closed her dark golden eyes as she felt it ruffle her fur, purring blissfully as she soaked in the sun's gentle rays. Her sleek black pelt had a couple fiery tabby patches scattered throughout, the only indication she was there as most of the hayloft was cast in shadow other than the small sunny patch she was lying in at the moment. Her tail swayed lazily as her ears swiveled slowly, always on guard even while relaxing, the young she-cat knowing that it was always best to keep an eye on one's surroundings.
Suddenly her ears perked up and straightened up, going forward slightly as she heard a sound, focusing on it as she opened her eyes slowly, looking around carefully for the sound she heard. What was that? She smoothly got to her feet and padded to the edge of the hayloft, peering down, looking around for the source.
