Arlo looked at the boy. "Hey, is he ok!?" They called, concerned. They swung up onto the branch and hopped down, landing on their feet. They walked over and crouched next to him. "Want an apple?" They asked.

He forced his breathing and heartbeat to slow. He looked at the two, registering the fact that they hadn’t hurt him. If they wanted to they could. But they didn’t seem to want to, he needed it to stay that way. He looked at Arlo, obviously confused.

“What’s an.. apple?” he asked. The boy was obviously red blood, because of the way he panicked and that he was very confused on what an apple was. Was an apple a.. weapon..?

*Calico explained what an apple was*

"How do you not know what an apple is?"

He was a bit confused, but took the apples out of Arlos hand anyway. He turned his attention to the red.. circle thing that had a stem with a leaf on it. He examined it closely, his focus interrupted by Calico asking about his lack of knowledge about apples.

“I.. I don’t know what it is.. all we eat in the stilts is fish if we’re lucky, otherwise we go to bed hungry.” he said, tone soft and hesitant as he spoke. He didn’t look away from the apple he was closely watching and make sure he knew it wasn’t poisoned or rotten.

Once sure it was okay and safe to consume, he took a bite, eyes widening as he did so. This was.. amazing.. crunchy and sweet! But.. his shining eyes darkened as he realized there was only enough for him and not his mom. He turned to Arlo. ”Where do you live? I live in the stilts.” he said

"I can teach you whatever you want. Also why do you go to be hungry? That's just bad! I can help you gather fruits and catch better fish if you want! I am really good at hunting!'

Waylen was hesitant. “It’s not that we aren’t good at it, it’s that there is nothing. And you two should know that Reds are treated as peasants.” he hissed quietly, dark circles around his eyes as if he hadn’t slept in days. Waylen took another bite of the apple.

He turned his attention back to Arlo. “That’s nice, your dad seems pleasant. Wish I got to meet him!” Waylen joked, but he was bad at making jokes so he seemed serious. He laughed. “Ha.. ha.. ha.. ha..” speaking of his laugh, his laugh was like, “Ha…Ha…Ha,” it was very spaced out since he didn’t know how to laugh either.

He was unaware of his bad joke-telling and laugh, however

Arlo smiled awkwardly. "I said 'dads'...plural...I have two!" They said and did an awkward laugh.

He carefully picked his way out of the small home (could it even be called a home? Yes. A house? No.), brushing a strand of his messy, tangled black hair out of his greyish blue eyes. What the boy's eyes were immediately drawn to, was the small gathering at the riverside. A Red... a pirate... and... a Silver.

He shuddered, eyes widening.

But the Silver didn't appear to be hurting the Red - no, she was helping him! And so was the pirate. Maverick's head cocked, and he found his legs (without consulting his mind, as usual) taking him to the trio. Nonononononono wait-

But he was already there.

Luckily, he was rather small and skinny - maybe the odd group wouldn't notice him. He really, really hoped they wouldn't. He pulled the collar of his oversized shirt over the bottom half of his face, so only his eyes were visible.
