The harsh earth pricked at her paws, an uncomfortable contrast to the soft and smooth floors of the Twoleg den. It had been so easy for her to get accustomed to the pleasantly mild ways of a kittypet... almost too easy. Had she forgotten her hunting skills? Would Bumblestar turn her away? I dunno if she will like my new trinket. The bell around her neck jingled, almost as if responding to her thoughts.

Why had she decided to leave at night? Especially a night as dark as this one? The twoleg's territory was far enough away that she couldn't simply sniff her way home like a bloodhound, nor could she yowl for a patrol like a kit wailed for her mom. She had to find her family on her own. Wolfie, Momma, Hazel, Golden... they were waiting for her. She wished her siblings were here to accompany her through the eerie darkness but... Pebbleshine was alone in these woods... or was she? The goosebumps that sprouted along her skin told the warrior otherwise. Someone - or something was out here with her.
