Default Like Sleep To The Freezing

Coldamber sat in somber silence, allowing time and nothingness to wash over her for several long moments before peeling her eyes open. She'd not felt it before, but the influence of the Dark Forest's infiltration of the starry realm had finally begun to weigh heavy on her, draining her.
It was making her attempts to bolster belief in StarClan among the living harder. It was making the task of checking in on and visiting the Medicine Cats an arduous task.
She regretted most how long it had taken her to re-visit precious Springpaw. She'd had to learn of the dears injury at ShadowClan teeth from another and she could not help but wish she could see in more places but one.
Wished she could be in more places at once.

The grey furred ghost felt guilt even as she tugged to invite the small calico into today's dreamscape.
Guilt, or was it exhaustion?
Or was it a nauseating mix of both, a reminder of her own time as WindClan's healer?
She mercifully did not have long to ponder this, looking up when a familiar and beloved pelt showed itself, distracting the inner storm.
Tail flicking, she took a tentative step forward.
"Springpaw. It is wonderful to see you again. Though I am terribly sorry I did not see you sooner."
Her gaze swept over the scars on the apprentice's scruff.
"How is the healing process coming along?"
She had not forgotten the recent omen she laid upon Drizzlecloud, and wondered if she should address that she's not allowed to speak of it, but opted to instead listen to Springpaw.

Springpaw
long-furred, oriental-shaped, gray-and-orange calico molly with blue eyes; torn right ear || thunderclan medicine cat apprentice
purrks: herbal knowledge - tier 2 | the collector | mind reader | skip the steps[all perm. active; sts for battle training]

The dream was coming at her again. The horrible, terrible nightmare that she had thought she escaped moons ago. Terrible, loud caterwauling ran in her ears, making them continuously ring as her brain popped and fused. Searing pain shot through her body as the familiar pain began to creep into her throat, tearing into the sensitive flesh. Panic and turmoil quickly began to set in, making her limbs flail as she struggled to escape the shock of the attack overbearing her. Not again. It couldn’t be happening again, right? The dream had to be over now, it couldn’t keep coming back to her as if it had received an invitation from the unholy stars above to come haunt her dreams. Her own heart began to pound as aggressively as a rabbit’s thumping legs, hitting against the metal bars of its cage in a desperate attempt to escape. Her taste-buds clung to the taste of blood as its metallic tang filled her jaws, making it impossible to breath and difficult to move. She was experiencing it again; the unbearable horror and fear that was lodged in the back of her mind. The hidden trauma that she had once hoped was gone was reliving itself over and over again, and there wasn’t anything she could do about it.

All she could really do was wait it out. Just like the old times. It was exhausting, physically breaking her down into bits and pieces that it just laughed and taunted at her. The adding guilt of the recent events made it only more miserable to bear. Tawnykit’s death. Eveningdance’s death. RiverClan poisoning ThunderClan. It was so tiring, and all it did was make Springpaw’s life more and more miserable to even bother living in. Sleep had been troubling her, and the only time she had even bothered trying to get herself an ounce of sleep, she encountered this feeble nightmare and now? She wasn’t even sure if she could find a cure for this insufferable nonsense. It seemed to just never end; to never find a proper place to finally put itself to sleep so that she didn’t have to look it in the eye and deal with its monstrous effects on her ever again. Then again, even with such high hopes and wishes for it to leave, she knew that it’ll just keep coming at her again and again. It won’t leave. It was like a blood sucking parasite that she had no clear idea about until one day it finally got the best of her and she just crumbled up and finally just broke. It was tiring, and so exhausting.

The colors had suddenly begun to shift, the insufferable phantom pain seamlessly easing itself away as it replaced with a soothing, warm feeling. The uneasiness that came from blood loss suddenly disappeared and her consciousness began to drift. Her eyes began to take in the shifting of her surroundings as it became a vastly, starry landscape. It immediately began to enlighten a distant memory of her first meeting with Coldamber, of when she was much smaller and naive to the extent of the trauma that had been casted upon in this world. It also reminded her of when she first met with Cindersky by the Moonlit Lake, but this wasn’t the beautiful pond with the lukewarm waters. It was just a large, flower-covered field with different aromas attacking at her nostrils all at once. Both suspicion and alarm attacked at her at a steady rate; her heart accelerating as she felt her jaws open to give out a reply to the starry atmosphere, only to instinctively shut as a familiar, gentle voice reached her ears like a mother’s lullaby.

“C… C-Coldamber?” Springpaw squeaked, forcing the queasiness out of her chest as her paws scrambled to turn herself towards the StarClan resident, eyes wide in surprise and disbelief that the molly had finally visited her after so long. Almond-shaped hues blinked not once, but twice to properly make her eyes grow adjusted to the starry atmosphere so she could focus properly on the molly in front of her. But, low and behold, it was truly her, and Springpaw couldn’t be happier to know that it was her. The questions that the starry feline asked were almost pushed to the back of her mind, as the calico simply couldn’t help herself as she rushed her way over, barreling into the gray molly as gently as she could as she gave her a hug, as of sorts. Sure, she didn’t know the ghost all too well like she did with her mother, but that wasn’t the answer right now. She was pleased to see Coldamber and that was that. “I… I never thought… that I would… see you… again.. Coldamber… these last… few moons… have been… troubling… to say… the least…” her voice briefly trailed off as she looked away from the molly for a brief moment, backing up to give her some space between the two mollies. Where should she even start?

“To… start things off… my healing… from the traumatic… event at… Sunkissed Creek… has been… slow… I can… speak… but not as… fluently… as I would… wish I could.” It was relatively difficult to explain the whole entire situation that the calico molly had been going through; her guilt from the entire situations with Eveningdance and Tawnykit did nothing but leave an impact on her that she could tell wouldn’t go away all that easily. The tragic loss of both of them affected her both physically and mentally, and yet, she didn’t know how to help control it. She would be certain that Coldamber would know at least a bit about the whole situation in ThunderClan, right? She’s a StarClan member, and the last time she recalled, StarClan watches over practically everything. It was a little creepy if she was being honest, but that was just her personal opinion.

@Abyssopelagic [ very excited for this ! but most of the herbs that spring was supposed to learn from falconfeather and tansypaw weren’t unfortunately achieved so cold may have to teach her them ]

No....
She recognized that look, the frantic glancing around, the preparation to run, the heavy breathing. Nightmares, trauma...
And re-living every agonizing moment of it.
Coldamber had only a moment to steal herself when she noticed the smaller form run at her. She braces her body and returned the apprentices embrace, sighing deeply with emotions she couldn't put a name to.
It had been.... A long time since anyone had hugged her. She struggled to remember who had been the last to initiate such an innocent intimacy.
It didn't matter....
Not really.
What mattered was right now, right here.

Coldamber had to resist the urge to frown as the small cat admitted she'd worried she'd never see her again. Had it really been so long since she last came to her?
She dipped her head to give an affectionate nudge with her nose.
Oh....
It seemed the apprentice had grown since they last spoke. Her brow furrowed a fraction at the realization.
It wouldn't be too long until they were at least eye to eye.
"I'm terribly sorry I've been gone for so long. I wish I could be in more places at once."
She was.... Somewhat aware of recent ongoings. She had a paw in the training of so many cats, from each Clan, that she felt compelled to be as up to date with her Medicine Cats as she could.
Doing such meant she didn't know everything that went on in any Clan.

She sat, and patiently allowed the apprentice to say what was on her mind. What remained of her leg throbbed in sympathy as she spoke of the difficulty her healing was showing to be. She understood, in her own way, the pains of feeling her healing was too slow.
"Healing from such a wound will take more time, I'm afraid. Time and a lot of patience.
I.... Know it can be hard to adjust to any disability, but give your body some time to try to heal. It isn't something you'll be able to overcome easily. It can take seasons, years even in some cases...."

She gave into the gnawing need to hug the apprentice again, burying her face into the younger cats shoulder as she held her.
"Don't push yourself, dearest. Your best is enough, even if you feel you should be doing more..."
With a sigh, she released Springpaw.
Recalling the smaller felines words, she understood at least the vague implication of the words. How much did she know?
And truthfully, not as much as she would like to. She'd been too distracted lately.
Paws in too many places, concerned with too many individuals to properly keep up.
"I am only somewhat aware of ThunderClan's goings on. But aware enough that, if you would rather not try to push yourself to explain, we can let that lie."
She certainly was not aware of the losses of Eveningdance or Tawnykit or how terribly this was affecting the calico.
But should she divulge these troubles, she'd know all too well the difficulty of losing patience. Even if having to put them down should the situation call for for it.
It never got easier.
And it was never something to be shouldered alone.

//Screaming, I hope this isn't too stilted or all over the place, I kept having to put it down and pick it back up eeeeeee\\

Springpaw
long-furred, oriental-shaped, gray-and-orange calico molly with blue eyes; torn right ear
purrks: herbal knowledge - tier 2 | the collector | mind reader | skip the steps[all perm. active; sts for battle training]

Springpaw’s heart slowed as she felt the starry molly wrap her paws around her as an instant form of comfort, a quiet shudder surpassing her lips as she accepted the embrace without any form of hesitation. The seemingly endless nightmare had been nothing but a hazardous demolition that would come after her without any remorse. The old pain that only just kept shouldering itself over and over again as it shoved her around like a helpless ragdoll. Her head felt like it was beginning to restlessly pound and whirl even though she was in the world of slumber, words helplessly hanging amid her throat like pine needles on a thread. Each intake of breath felt like it was suffocating her lungs, making her stomach quench and twist itself into unfathomable knots. Coldamber’s gentle voice broke the restless cycle of horror, agony, and pain, making Springpaw finally focus her attention on the starry molly’s own, her mind repeating the apology as it were hushed winds, almost as faint as the breath etching out her nostrils.

Her mind buzzed as she felt the gentle touch of Coldamber’s nose, driving her out of the inner contraption of her interior thoughts and back to the present. The numbing sensation of the phantom pain slowly eased away as she felt herself focus finally on her surroundings. Her heart ached pitifully at the familiarity of the place. The bright colors decorated the fields and atmosphere. The dozens of stars that came out above her, the little burning balls of gas transparent against the violet coloration of the skies. Different variations of flowers bloomed and swayed, the place smelling like a vast mixture of the seasons. It was glorious, and Springpaw almost didn’t want to ever leave. But, all things must come to an end, do they? Even if this imaginary place was something that she had grown accustomed to when she had been younger and far more naive, it was still nonetheless heartbreaking to know that she’d eventually have to leave at a certain point in time.

“It’s… okay, Coldamber… I’ve been… learning new… things… while we… haven’t seen… each other,” Springpaw finally found the words to speak to the StarClan resident, allowing her blue orbs to rest upon her own. As she lingered her vision among the molly for further notice, she could easily tell that was rapidly approaching the same height as the molly. Was that how long it had been since she had last spoken with the former healer? It seemed so, admittedly. Springpaw had already begun to extend her knowledge in due time after they had encountered each other last, and truth be told, Springpaw could’ve sworn that she became far less naive to the world’s troubles. She matured. She grew. She was developing into a much wiser cat than she had suspected in her lifetime. There were countless injuries that she had to endure in the process of helping her mentor upon healing, and the molly herself could easily remember each incident without a singular care in the world. It wouldn’t be long before Drizzlecloud would want to take her to the Starcave and earn her name… how would that even go?

Her curiosity for the factor remained brief and was quick to falter, as oriental-shaped ears quickly grew attentive towards the next set of words that escaped the other molly, making her lips purse into a brief frown. Her words were more than correct, unfortunately. Ever since that battle from moons ago, Springpaw’s vocal cords hadn’t seemed to have improved in the slightest. Sure, she could speak at a semi-fluent range, but she still needed to pause now and then before she could complete what she needed to say. To add to that, it hurt worse than the demons of the Dark Forest themselves clawing into her skin. It felt like her throat burned as she decided to swallow mouthfuls of sand, and she almost swore that sometimes she felt the taste of blood whenever she spoke for a long period. Sometimes she wished that tom-cat that did this just ended her instead of making her suffer with this indescribable wound too. He had the opportunity to do so, yet he didn’t. “It’s… hard to deal… with something… like this… that tom… whatever his name… was… almost… killed me… that day… the battle… there… was horrible… ruthless… bloody… just like… ShadowClan… themselves.”

Naturally, Springpaw wasn’t as inattentive towards the other clans like this, usually bearing sympathy for anything occurring within the other clans. But, with how high the political tensions have been between her clan and the others, it hadn’t been easy to bear anything but envy towards them. They’ve been causing drama, and everything had been becoming nothing but an endless pittle of war and bloodshed. Ever since Springpaw was assigned as a medicine cat apprentice, these were the least of the things that she had wanted to endure during her time as a young medic. She had to endure endless bloodshed, unnecessary war, and lastly, death. So. Many. Deaths. It wasn’t hard to imagine the deaths that occurred in both her clan and the others, but it was even worse to see the injuries obtained during these unnecessary battles. Her mind briefly surpassed the question that Coldamber had asked her, but her queasy stomach churned as she thought about the response she would be willing to give the StarClan resident. Many things had occurred in her clan, that she wouldn't even know where to begin!

“A lot… occurred… after we… met… but I would… assume… that you can… guess what… they can… possibly be,” her voice grew grim as she avoided any sort of eye contact with the other feline, focusing merely on the soft grass beneath her paws. She didn’t hold any knowledge of what exactly the other molly may know, but she could only assume that it may be one of the bigger threats that happened towards her clan - RiverClan poisoning it, or the foxes. Springpaw just felt her mind boggled away from the harsh fiascos of reality that had occurred as she focused herself on Coldamber again, slight curiosity meddling into her gaze. “But… I would… presume… that this… isn’t some… ordinary… visit… correct?... You’ve come… to teach me… more complex… techniques and… other herbs… if I… am correct.” To be fair, Springpaw had been itching for more knowledge ever since Drizzlecloud taught her the gruesome techniques that Coldamber herself had taught her. She wasn’t aware of what the starry molly may have in store for her, but she would assume that it would at least help her at some point in her medicine cat career.

@Abyssopelagic [sorry for this being a little… bleh. haven’t been feeling great for the last few days lol ]

Default Re: Like Sleep To The Freezing

Coldamber gritted her teeth at the mention of the warrior who did this to her. At the reminder of just how absent she's been. At what was done to her sweet little Springpaw.
She'd almost started to have a soft spot for the marsh stompers. The agonizing loss and loneliness she saw Dawnstar face had started it, and then her banter with Elmshadow.... But no, this was but a stark reminder of what ShadowClan was like, would almost certainly remain to be like as long as leaders remained as cruel as Dawnstar. It was a cycle that was unlikely to end.
She was so so tired of warriors taking their spats out on Medicine Cats. She's going to make that rat pay, one way or another.
She steadied her mind by leaning closer to the Medicine Cat apprentice. She could stew on this later, now she needed to focus.
Even still, there was no hiding the way her claws sank into the ground, paws ready to rip a hole through the world if that was what it took.
She blinked as she was reminded why she was here. As much as she adored the Medicine Cat apprentice, she had come by for a specific purpose, though she hated to cut their conversation short so soon. It was so rare that she actually had a chance to talk.... Well, perhaps 'casually' wasn't the word she was looking for, but about something other than herbs. Rarer still was the chance to talk to the Medicine Cat's she felt so connected to.

The StarClan resident sighed, eyes scouring the other's for an idea of how she'd prefer Coldamber to proceed. With the mention of the true reason of her being there being the last thing she'd mentioned, the nebelung relented.
"I do not wish to seem as if I'm brushing past what has happened to you. I do care about you, even if I do not visit as often as I wish...."
Taking another unnecessary breath, Coldamber's eyes rested on the ground as she let her mind wirr, trying to remember everything she's taught Springpaw and what Drizzlecloud might have shared from their own meetings.

"We'll start with something simple. More for my sake than yours."
She didn't know when it had happened, when remembering who had been taught what had become harder. Perhaps it was because of just how often she was seeing new cats come in and out of these ranks.
"Mushrooms. They're a simple plant. An inconspicuous and strange little thing, but one of the first things I had learned from my own mentor.
In use, they are to be shredded thinly and applied to open wounds. They help soak up blood and have a mildly antiseptic quality to them, but are not as strong as marigold and other herbs that prevent infection, but are a good two for one for wounds that are less at risk of becoming infected."

The starry Medicine Cat lifted her paw and made a small indent in the ground and from the freshly disturbed earth, the ground split as a small, grey-brown mottled plant began to poke forth, its bulbous head sat prim and proper atop the stem holding it up.
"This is what they look like. While there are many types of mushrooms that grow in many places, these are the only ones that I know are safe to use. You will find these in tunnels and cave systems, where light is scarce. They grow in small clusters, usually between rocky crevices.
They are most abundant during leaf fall, but can also be found plenty during new leaf."[/B]

Coldamber stared at the simple plant for a bit, and wondered when she'd last actually looked at one. She'll have to take the time to refamiliarize herself with them.
And perhaps a few of the other plants she'd learned early in her career. She couldn't remember the last time she'd seen some of these plants actually in someone's herb storage.
Honestly she.... Didn't bother conjuring the whole plant this time around. Trees were a pain to make appear, as Springpaw had witnessed on their last visit.
As much as the craft of weaving dreams had become easier for her, she doubted she was ready to perform such a feat and still be able to get through the extensive list of herbs she had yet to get through. And so, as disappointing and underwhelming as it may have been, she simply passed her tail over where the mushroom sat, and in its place when the line of sight was no longer obscured was a variety of leaves.
Though they looked different, some were rounded at the edges and others had defined, smooth edges that visually ended in points. But, they were all long and upon closer inspection, every leaf has the same general shape to their outline, top heavy in appearance before thinning out where it would cling to its host tree.
"All of these are different kinds of oak leaves. They are easiest to collect in leaf fall, but are also weakest in potency around this time. ThunderClan seems to be most acclimated to climbing, so perhaps it won't be too much of an ask to send a warrior to collect some during green leaf?
When crushed into a powder, they work to stop bleeding. Oak trees are... Quite easy to find, as they are some of the most prevalent trees. It would be harder to find a tree that isn't oak. Though, you may want to take a bit of time to study the shapes of the leaves just in case, as leaf shape is the easiest way to tell the species of non-fruiting trees."

And something that may be of importance should Sedgestorm actually return his weary old tail back to the Clan's like he'd claimed he would. He wouldn't share his finding with her, which made imparting this knowledge of his experiments most difficult.
He better share that knowledge before he died. Who knows how hard it will be to track his sorry hide down again once he was in the afterlife.

Once Springpaw showed that she was ready to move on, Coldamber breathed heavily and from her exhale, the leaves scattered and an expansive and vine-like plant covered the ground between the two. The leaves were almond shaped, and sparsely dotted with small white flowers.
"This is chickweed. The leaves can be eaten to lessen the symptoms of white cough, occasionally curing them, but is not a replacement for catmint and other such herbs to cure the disease itself.
They thrive in cool, moist, and shaded areas, usually under trees or shrubs.
You will only find it in the colder moons, from late leaf fall and into early newleaf."

She did not have as much information about this herb as she did about some of the others, as Elmshadow had only just begun to experiment with its properties when they'd last spoken before his untimely death. And she had not seen him since, either among the numbers of StarClan's own or, since the weakening and subsequent collapse of the barrier, among the Dark Forest members that had made it over. Nor was he among those that had started to gather near the barrier, even if they hadn't crossed.
And she was not the kind of cat who could just traipse in without expecting some sort of resistance, and she wasn't skilled enough in battle to expect to be able to fend off any attacks.
"I've not much more knowledge about this plant. It was not one I discovered the use of myself, and my informant has... Passed on, and I have reason to believe he is not among StarClan's number, else I might have found him by now."
Springpaw didn't need to know who this not so mysterious benefactor was. If she asked, Coldamber had no problem telling her, but she hoped it wouldn't make her less trusting of the information she had to give.
She would never intentionally mislead any of her Medicine Cats.

The chickweed began to shift, vining tendrils curling upwards and twining on themselves, morphing to take on a green, leafy-stalk appearance of a bushel-like shrub, thin sprigs of aromatic leaves reaching for the star strewn sky.
"This pungent little plant is rosemary and one of the few herbs that the patient chews rather than you. They're excellent for many conditions concerning the mouth. Chewing on any part of the plant will help the body fight off against viral and bacterial infections of the mouth, and is especially effective against other conditions such mouth sores, ulcers, and scratches. It can be safely eaten, and it does have benefits in and of itself, but unless you're tight on available herbs, I'd recommend using your usual to help with headaches and fevers, as it is significantly weaker in potency.
They like to grow along hills and prefer sunny, sheltered spots, in well-drained soil."

The good part was, at least once a shrub was found, as much of it could be picked as necessary for an individual trip, as these bushes grew to be quite large compared to other shrubs that might be found.
"Rosemary grows year round, but the freshest and most potent clippings will be found in green leaf, but can be used regardless of season.....
On the topic of mouth ailments....
Something another Medicine Cat encountered was .... Thorns, in a kit's mouth. Rather than try to pick the thorns out, he came up with a rather brilliant fix.
To start, he had the kit chew the root of a burdock plant. This numbed the kit's mouth, and softened the palette, covered a bundle of cobwebs in honey and had the kit chew on it. This extracted the worst of the thorns.
In similar cases, rosemary would be essential to apply to such cases."

A wicked looking plant, it's flower covering in hairs that almost looked like those that graced the stinging nettle, the yellow flower within safely tucked away, nestled in its wirey bedding and protected by the protrusions that surrounded it. The leaves were wavey, rippled, frilly, and made up the majority of the plants mass.

[B]"This is blessed thistle. It has many uses, and is a wonderful addition to any Medicine Cats stock. The flower, when eaten, can stimulate milk production in heavily pregnant or nursing queens and can also increase productivity of the liver, helping with indigestion and loss of appetite by stimulating the production of bile and saliva. The leaves can be eaten to help with coughs, fatigue, brain fog, and internal infections.
The leaves can be applied topically in a poultice to decrease swelling and for open wounds. The flower should only be used on the skin for boils or to draw out poison in an abscess, as it tends to sting due to the strength.
It is also incredibly bitter and might need to be paired with honey to go down easier.
This plant loves full sunlight and prefers soil that will drain rather than hold water. As for soil type, it's not very picky and will even grow in poor quality or even rocky soil."[B]

It wasn't a very showy plant, Lady's Mantle, and could almost be mistaken for a common fern or other foliage, but the brighter green of its secretive folded flowers was a clear give away for those that knew how and what to look for. The unassuming plant bloomed in the place of the daisy patch.
[B]"The twolegs call this Lady's Mantle. I've heard a warrior call it starstem. I suppose whichever you find to be easier to remember will work."
She found both names to be rather silly.
"All parts of the plant can be eaten for the same effect and when taken long term, it can mend torn tissue at a faster rate, especially if this torn issue a burst eardrum or an overworked muscle."
She paused, remembering a question that Elmshadow once asked that she'd never gotten the chance to answer and decided to clear the confusion now.
"It does not need to be taken preemptively for it to assist the healing of the torn muscle. However, I do think keeping a small supply so you don't have to immediately leave to search when you have a case of torn muscle.
It can also be chewed into a poultice to apply topically, and helps best with pain from a lost tooth or limb."

Clearing her throat, Coldamber pressed on.
"Well, I suppose you'll also need to know how to diagnose a torn muscle, huh?
It doesn't always present the same way in everyone, especially depending on severity, but some signs to look for and ask after are: sudden, intense pains, visible swelling and bruising, limited range of motion in the limb, audible popping or snapping sensations, and muscle spasms.
In addition to using this plant, it's a good idea to keep the affected limb elevated if possible. While you'll usually see torn ligaments in the case of accidents, fatigue and improper posture when hunting or doing strenuous activities can also cause this."

Her tail tapped the ground as she realized she was rambling, and opted to move on. There was plenty to get around to.
"Despite growing anywhere moist soil, they aren't exactly the easiest to find since they look similar to many other, non-herb plants. You'll need to be on the lookout for the paler green atop, which is the easiest way to identify this plant.
They will begin growth in late newleaf, and can be found until mid leaf-fall."

Before even beginning to describe their uses, Coldamber willed two different, but quite similarly looking plants to grow from the dreamscapes starry not quite soil. The clusters of boneset off to one side, and the companion flower to the other.
She knew nothing about this second flower other than it could be paired with the boneset, and the only reason she knew they had a different effect together after mistaking it for the Herb she'd been looking for.
"This is boneset."
She gestured to the small, white clusters of flowers.
"The leaves and flowers can be used interchangeably for the common cold, minor and early forms of green and white cough, as well as general lung infections. It likes to grow in wet soil with significant amounts of organic matter growing around it. Bogs and marshes, mostly, especially the ones with algae."
The nebelung looked to the other plant.
"This is an elder flower. When paired with boneset, it alleviates congestion, fever, soothes aches, and can stimulate weak appetites."
The flowers were small and white, the only difference were the five petals it had rather than the strangely textured little clusters, each petal separated by a strange shaped leaf that almost looked like a petal of its own. Nor did she know what the berries did.
"I don't know where these grow. I only know they can be used with boneset after mistaking the two. I'd had two individuals offer to test its uses, but neither are in places where I can contact them anymore. The only other thing I know for certain is that the leaves are the only parts of the plant that are safe to eat. The berries are poisonous." She murmured.

Coldamber clicked her tongue as she remembered one of the last things Elmshadow shared with her. She hadn't had time for anyone to better the craft, or think up of better alternatives or how to best make the technique work.
"I've not had the chance to share this technique in particular, nor do I know which herbs in particular that work with it. I've come to call it sun-soaking, and it strengthens the potency of certain herbs.
To start, you'd crush up the herb or herbs you're wanting to increase the potency of and add them to a water-soaked moss, usually with honey for the flavour and benefits, then wrap it in a large leaf to make into a beneficial drink. Leaving it out in the sun for a time strengthens the flavor, and presumably, the efficiency of the herbs used."

Hopefully, Springpaw or Drizzlecloud could report back on the truth of this after some trial runs.

[B]"Before I forget, I've been doing some brainstorming to find better ways to treat slit throats and disembowelment. Your survival rates should increase, hopefully. I've only seen it come of use a pawful of times, so there is always room to improve the technique."
If you have reason to believe their windpipe has been opened, you'll need something sticky to help you hold the wound close to prevent their death.
It is not a foolproof method, but you can use the egg sacs from a spiders web or tree sap to hold the skin together before wrapping it up.
Spider sacs aren't nearly as strong as tree sap, but is much easier to find and carry than the sap, and easier to remove when the time comes.
Tree sap will need replacing less often, but cannot be removed from the skin by peeling it off when it needs to be removed and must instead be washed off gently in a river."[B]
