Dusk. The breeze was still a little warm. And she couldn't sleep. Again.
They were cosy enough beneath the branches of a cedar tree. The warriors' den was more comforting, sure, but they'd be surrounded by sleeping bodies and that all anxious feeling of being the only one awake. Strange, in the clan of shadows. They longed to go night hunting again, stalk their prey through the pines and marshes, going totally unnoticed despite their emerald eyes glinting in the darkness. Before the pounce, and the bite, and the rush. But no. She had to wait it out in the clearing. No cat to exit alone, that was Dawnstar's command - and, unfortunately, they trusted her judgement. Darkness was beginning to close in, and soon it'd be pitch black out here. A couple cats flitted through the camp now and again, but there wasn't all that much going on, it was late. She couldn't hear much, either. A couple muffled voices arose from the dens now and again (mostly the apprentices). Cicadas chirped softly on the breeze. She supposed she could hear the breeze itself, occasionally sifting through pine branches. But that was all. It was a quiet night, and they were with their thoughts.
