the more hawkpaw tried to convince him she was doing fine the more he grew certain that she was in considerable pain, nervous laughs and overexplaining wasnt someone someone did who wasnt lying, or at least he wouldnt expect that to happen..unless the cat was just really nervous maybe. but hawkpaw didnt seem like the type of cat to be nervous about speaking to him, even after having her...friend?? fellow apprentice?? duskpaw be scolded with her standing by. the wince the pale tortoiseshell let out standing up had rookfire reaching out to give her the opportunity to grab him for stability if she wanted.

"no reason ta' try n avoid gettin' it looked at, i wont do anythin' you dont want me to but its better if your body is healthy if ye wanna become a warrior." he shrugged in an attempt to keep this casual to take away some of the fear he suspected in the apprentice. if it wasnt fear, he couldnt really understand what else was holding her back, perhaps pride? but that was ridiculous, every cat, dawnstar and mistlewhisker included visited the medicine cats to get treated..

"doesnt have ta' be me either if thats the problem, mossfreckle can do it as well" he further extended his offer, pushing down the voice telling him it was because he wasnt doing enough. not being clan born was bad enough, failing to earn their trust even after moons was worse, a stab in the heart. or perhaps the lungs and throat as that was what tended to ache mostly when he was overcome by negativity, pain creeping up the back of his throat and the center of his ribcage. it wasnt usually bad though, he could take a little suspicion and snark from cats every once in a while as long as it wasnt like the last gathering debacle. he'd certainly take this over repeating that any day.. single white tipped ear flicking in thought, he considered letting the apprentice be if she didnt want to go with him, which would admittedly feel like refusing to do his job but he could hardly force anyone to get treated.

Rowankit hadn't noticed it. She didn't think anyone did. It was right there, right in the corner of camp. Just.. watching her. Watching them all. Her spine tingled nervously. But it remained where it was, not even trying to move away. Just.. hovering there, deadlily. And then; AAH. EMERGENCY! OH NO! The bee was approaching! Red alert, red alert! IT WAS ON HER. AAAH. Rowankit jumped to her paws with a yelp, rapidly trying to remove the bee by slapping it with her paw, but apparently the bee didn't appreciate that and it stung her right on the toe bean. Treason! Lunging forward, the Dawnspawn attacked the creature ruthlessly, grasping its wings in her jaws, and sitting there (Ow) waiting for it to die of stinger-loss. It took a while to her, in pain and promptly plopped on her bottom on the ground. But eventually it did. Good. Murder. Heh.

tail unwrapping from where it had rested around him and shuffling white tipped paws from beneath his body, rookfire stood, arching his back to stretch out cold muscles before stepping forward to stretch out his hind limbs as well, tail vibrating faintly in the process. limbs still a bit stiff following the rather long time he had been resting unmoving in the cool entrance of the medicine den, he staggered out, gently pushing through the lichen curtain shrouding the medicine dens entrance from prying eyes and blinking against the difference in brightness. the sky a pale faintly blueish grey and light enough to make rook feel like he was going blind in his second eye as well and he quickly decided against gazing up the horizon again, keeping his eyes on a normal level instead. cool grey eyes wandering along the cats gathered in the clearing, lots of them which was no surprise since the lockdown was still in place but slightly uncomfortable none the less, mostly because rookfire didnt really like accidentally brushing past anyone. it was kind of ironic, a medicine cat that didnt like others touching him without being prepared for it, but irrelevant none the less given the fact that he still did his work efficiently and without complaint or issue.
he finally landed on a unfamiliar cat, one he had only ever seen but couldnt even place name-wise but was fortunately sitting alone so the dark furred tom padded over to them, offering a small nod before taking a seat at a reasonable distance from them.
"hows it goin'?" rook asked in what might be his best attempt at trying to strike up conversation without sounding like a complete idiot. man why is talking to people with a purpose so much easier than small talk..cant really just ask the same i asked mudslide either aghr he cursed unspoken conversation rules while cocking his head to the side slightly, underlining his question with a faint wisp of curiosity.

Eveningpaw nodded along as Rookfire spoke. They tapped their tail repeatedly against the ground, taps growing more and more erratic with each tap.

"Mmm," they hummed, looking off to the distance for a bit before turning back to the taller feline. "Yeah, they're not that popular around the Clan. Or hard-working, for that matter." They let out an annoyed huff and frown, tail tapping slowly ceasing.

They brightened up at the mention of a territory tour, frown growing into a wide smile.

"Ooh, yes please!" They jumped to their paws. "That sounds great!"

Oh, Stars dammit. Maybe she wasn't as sneaky and mysterious as she thought. And the mention of not being able to become a proper warrior without being healthy... Well, that was one of the things that finally got her to stop pretending everything was okay. The tortoiseshell she-cat inhaled and exhaled slowly, frowning.

"No, no. It's not that," she muttered under her breath. Did Rookfire think she was pretending because she didn't trust him? Of course not! If anything, Hawkpaw respected him. A lot. He and Sleepysunrise had saved her from getting into a deeper arguement with Duskpaw. She owed him. She put on a much more cheery expression. "I jus... Dunno what's wrong, if I'm being honest. HAH!" That was... A half-lie. She shifted her paws, then brought it over to run her tongue over one of them.

"I mean, I... Uh.. Feel not... Fine... I guess... But... I dunno." Her frown returned, though much deeper than previous.

Unless someone like this particular dark-furred cat was spotted across the clearing. Upon further inspection, one of the cat's eyes were cloudy. Like his own. Wow. Another freak in the Clan. Spiritkit slowly walked over, head lowered and tail gently brushing the ground. And once he was close enough to see how his fur faded from a dark, almost black, blue-grey to a paler shade, he launched himself at the medic with a snarl, tiny yet sharp claws extended. Of course, they would barely do anything to large cats like Rookfire, but Spiritkit refused to admit it.

rookfire nodded when eveningpaw told him about their mentors lack of popularity or care to earn their keep, annoyance obvious in the apprentices demeanour. "honestly, 's just a bit weird i've never even head a' their name" rookfire chucked airily, the faintest wisp of embarrassment at his confession tugging at the back of his mind. it was stupid to be frank, to be embarrassed about not knowing a cat that apparently wasnt around much but he couldnt really shake the feeling none the less.
eveningpaws enthusiasm in regards to his offer was expected, the apprentice that had complained openly about their mentor to him being excited to actually get some training done? bloody unheard of. (/s) it was nice to hear anyway, to get a auditory and visual confirmation that he hadnt entirely misjudged their character and somehow clicked with them despite having work ethics so different they could be compared to night and day. but he didnt have to worry about that anymore, satisfied with what he had heard from and about eveningpaw up to now and not willing to dig and deeper for no reason right now.

"lets get going then! any preference of where we start?" rookfire chirped with a nod towards the camp entrance, getting back to his paws to pad towards the exit separating them from the dim wide sprawling evergreen forest. he doubted the apprentice really cared about the starting point all that much but he liked giving options and allowing some kind of control over the situation anyway. as moist forest air passed into how maw, causing a breezy sensation around his teeth and going down his throat like a cold drink, rookfire briefly closed his eyes, this would entail a lot of walking for sure but at least it wasnt raining and the weather was alright otherwise.
